Lilly can do it all, for being so young, she mothers her baby brother, keeps up with her older brothers, cooks , cleans plus works the farm and helps during the kill process for the meat chickens, you rock Lilly.
she really does! Such a rock star! -Cara
Couldn't agree more with that comment!! For a young girl she is a selfless as can be always working and being such a caring child. I can see her being the boss in the future.
She's a GOAT
GREATEST OF ALL TIME....She will be a all-round lil Lady 😇
Justin, I wanna say something. I was 16 when I first started watching your videos and i'm now 23. I took a HUGE inspiration to your lifestyle but wasn't able to live it myself because I live pretty suburban (I'm from Belgium) Though I started to integrate your lifestyile in mine, I started growing all kinds of different vegetables and even grew my own meat chickens which i slaughtered myself by watching your videos. I'm on a point in my life right now where i'll be moving out of my parents house and live together with my girlfriend in a farmstead which is owned by my uncle. I hope to raise many animals and grow my own food. I think me coming across your videos was the start of this path in life I set myself on. Thank you so much for sharing your life.
@Ernie H I sure try to! They deserve the respect for the sacrifice they're making
Now that Winnie guards the whole farm, she seems quite content.
Sleeps during the day guards the homestead at night!
OMG the kitty and dog moment was adorable.
Lily is going to be a great cook!
Maybe it's time for more permanent perimeter fencing and then you can just do cross nets?
Very nice! The calf needs to be put in the stall at night and have a fence in there to learn to respect it. 🤗🤗
I was a chef for 30 years,,Your son did an Amazing job sectioning that chick,,,,,Bravo young man,,
I know adults who can't do that.
✝️🙏🇺🇸👍❤
You could look into more permanent options for fences. Especially areas further from the house. That are essentially only going to be pastor. And use the other fences for flex areas where you might want to use it for different things.
Switching to permanent woven wire fencing for our pastured pigs was one of the best time saving decisions we ever made on our farm.
“Look at the beautiful one!!! What’s the occasion for the pretty dress?”
“…I need to do laundry”
😂😂😂 so relatable
Looks like Jonah is a butcher of the family. He did a great job cutting the chicken up.
Long time no see. Now that I have a yard to perm in, I'm excited to be back to watching yall.
Hey Justin, just an idea, but you could slap up some walls on the milking sled to make a temporary stall for the calves to go in at night.
I love how Lilly is quite the cook ❤️
Love your videos!!
SUGGESTION: Just an idea … when refilling the minerals for your sheep… if you had pvc pipes labeled w caps that drop down into each compartment, w a funnel for ease of pouring you could avoid stooping down under the roof… it would take some engineering to make sure the sheep are able to still use the flaps… maybe if the pvc pipes enter the compartments from the back…? Just a thought.
Keep up the good work!! Love your content!!
I hope this doesn't sound stupid. Why not use ski boards On the front of the milk shed so it will slide easier and not dig into the soft dirt.
Jonah is a boss butcher. I know grown women that can't part a whole chicken and he just blew threw it! He and Lily returning out to be awesome cooks! I am thinking I agree with the other consensus, you need a seriously hot perimeter wire like Joel does and just use the nets as cross fencing.
Them cows, them cows! I love watching the kids help out all around the farm. Jonah and Lily are just absolutely awesome! You have done a wonderful job raising them to be such beautiful human beings! Love you guys!
I love your shows. I wish you had a closing tag to your videos. A lot of times I am listening to them more than watching. Thank you. You are inspiring!
I agree! I am really enjoying the video then, it's done without a good bye 😢. Feels very unfinished.
Look at Jonah practicing his butchering skills. Great work kids!
How did I miss that Jonah is a lefty? Great job with that chicken.
I like that the animals can choose their minerals they feel they need. Your meals always look so good and Lilly is such a great help all over the farm and in the kitchen. 🌻💜🌻
Thanks Justin, I don't have large live stock yet, hopefully one day move out from the city. Your organic approach to keep healthy chickens truly work. Can't wait to one day try this method. Thank you again for your generosity!
Totally enjoyed this video-watching meal prep, never thought of smoked paprika in the spice mix, or mixing oil in the mix. I always oiled then rolled in spice mix-great idea.
Love how your kid’s voices are heard in suggestions and questions. Thank you for the share
I love Sunday meals with special friends 💕
We buy white blocks that are only salt, and brown blocks that are mineral blocks. In a pinch, it is quick. But I want to add the mineral Shaw for my sheep.
I am so happy that you have been putting up your vlogs earlier in the day.
On those metal rebar fence posts use a old piece of garden hose to cover the exposed post from the ground to the top and then you can use thin metal wire to wrap your fence on tothe garden hose
That’s genius!
So glad you all changed things up with Winnie. She is so much happier now! Also really good to see Sabina, I was wondering if she was OK.
Excellent work Rebecca.!
Hi , your kids are really amazing. May God continue blessing you all. 💝💝💝💝💝💝💝🐮💝🐷💝🐷💝🐷💝🐷🐴💝🐴💝🐑💝🐑💝
It’s a good look long time
Have you considered a mobile calf pen? Like your ram pen but smaller and it can stay in the pasture with the herd overnight.
why do you peel your potatoes i haven't peeled mine in 65 years you grow them so you know their history and best food value at skin and below
This was a helpful learning lesson on the fencing and what to be mindful of. Thanks for sharing
Nothing short, awesome
Could you possibly fence train the calves in a stall like you do with the pigs? Watch and love every video, thankyouthankyouthankyou xxx
i like using bucket as seats
Would like to see how she makes her hibiscus tea. Me and my wife just got us a plant and would like to see different recipes!
I love how you all work together
Awesome, been waiting for your Mineral program!
What about getting solar panels for the fencing? You could plant it closer and move it with the fence.
Hi.... Justin Rhodes, thank you for showing your video homestead chickens duck goose farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐣🐥🐩🐕🐈🐑🐄🐖🐇🌱🌺🌹🌻🌼🌸🌷🏡🎥👍👍👍
You have a nice firm welded fence where you had the sheep in. Could'nt you use that for the calfs?
Blessings to all!
I want to see a show on Ticks, how do you avoid them since all children go bare foot. And you know what Lyme does
@@tylerw1976 I have no objections with the farm life like that millions do, stepping manure is nothing, but the ticks. What he does works, I just want to know how he does it
The chickens love ticks.
Guinea hens are the best defense though.
@@josephpadula2283 I've heard that but see any guinea around, would like to hear fro Justin
I had a stray German shepherd go right thru my Premiere One poultry electric fence to try to kill my flock of layers and 3 geese. It's owner went over the fence after him. Then when she caught him she drags the dog over my fence and climbs back over too. Tore up my fence. Yes it was on. She never even said she was sorry and now I need a new fence but can not afford it just now. Disappointed the dog could go thru it. It does shock.
That sucks!
I once had a lady take the clips off a QG sheep net and bring her kids in with my flock. Her little boy was chasing around very pregnant ewes as fast as he could run while she and the girl watched. Some people’s actions are just unbelievable.
@@swamp-yankee
What in the world did you do? As a Conservative Mennonite Christian Lady I would have been hard pressed to keep my composure! That would have taken The Lord holding my tongue! Yikes 🥴. We're your sheep alright? Too bad your ram (guessing you had one?) didn't teach them a lesson!
@@opybrook7766 She wasn’t a stranger, but she remains the worst customer we’ve ever had. We were going to fire her from the CSA, but she either moved or picked up on how fed up with her we were and stopped coming to the farm. On the way in to talk to her I got a wicked fence shock because I decided to hook the fencer back up and didn’t realize she left it on and disconnected both clips. I picked up both the ground clip and the hot clip while kneeling. It was a 2 joule fencer, and must have scrambled my brain pretty good because I remember that a lot better than our conversation. I know I wasn’t rude and she left.
It is my way to generally be very agreeable in that kind of situation and wish I told people what a flaming idiot they were being later. It’s my peasant blood I think. I guess I’m blessed to not be living that the other way round.
Hand deliver her an invoice to replace the fence.
It's amazing to see Lily so proficient in the kitchen!
I agree. The 3 older kids are so capable!
I love your videos
Maybe a solid metal electric fence would carry more juice that the braided rope fencing you are using for your source fence.
Go to either my spices or spice house for spices. They're on line.
Cayenne is what makes it Cajun.
We discovered we can’t do netting, it’s too dry here. Didn’t know that when we purchased it, so now it sits. We did 5 wire high tensile electric perimeter fence. Now I can hook my polywire in anywhere on it. No more long line running from the barn. Might be worth putting in two wires of perimeter fencing! Slowly switching to ABC minerals… the company we get feed from can add two per shipment. If you could only Introduce 2 new minerals every 3-4 months, what order would you add them in?
ty..xoxo 🥰
And I keep getting told cows can't eat tall weeds like that🤣🤦♀️
I am Cajun and we use cayenne on everything
What about keeping the calves in another mobile ram pen?
Wouldn't life be simpler with permanent fences and gates?
Seems at least a few paddocks for rotational grazing would make life easier and less time wasted. If any animals bust through a net fence it would be good to assume that might call for a studier form of fencing. JGiles
Switching to permanent woven wire fencing(with electric offsets) was the best time saving decision we ever made on our farm.
I feel like I'm knit picking, but be careful with your spices if you are trying to pin point problem food. My father in law has a long list of foods he can't have. Onions and garlic are on that list. Just something to keep in mind. I have seen his journey and it was hard. Just don't want a spice to cause you frustration
That was bold to not also have none spicey chicken. Not everyone can eat even table pepper, too hot. I am one of those.🥴
YES YOU ARE USING BLACK PEPPER, I honestly dont use salt if use spices sorry for the caps but some spices have medicinal properties and anti inflammatories.
Why have I not seen Teddy in a while? Did something dreadful happen to that little doll baby🤔? I miss seeing his happy self in your videos 😄
He was in that one, just watch closer when you first see Rebekah and he’s usually there. I saw him when they were loading up Sally with minerals and I think again when she was filling the mineral feeder.
He was also in yesterday's video
@@cjbmm Thank you 😄
@@shirleybird6422 Thank you 😄
Why dont u wire the whole fields with fencing?
where do you get the netting electric fence?
I was thinking since you have you pastures with fences why not leave them for the next rotations so you save work then weed Wacker under them well it was a thought
How are you keeping your gopro from overheating. Did you turn off stabilization and horizon leveling? (It seems that way)
It's not Cajun without cayenne
Jonah looks like a young man, all of a sudden he has changed from a boy to a man. Love the beautiful ones skirt, it suits you well.
We have been wanting to get sheep for our very new 10 acre property. We have 4 ISA Brown Chickens currently. We have watched some of your videos with sheep and am thinking dorper sheep would be best because we do not want to sheer them. But would milking them be possible? We like how self reliant they seem to be since we are new to farming. Any thoughts you could pass on to us?
Do you think that the sheep could be more like our children, they go after the minerals that taste the best not neccesarily the one's they need.
Any supplier of free choice minerals in Australia, if anyone knows?
👍
I have rabbits that I raise. I have a couple of those who have hawk sores and one rabbit who actually bites her own feet in the front. Do you think minerals would help?
Wonderful!
I want to see that oldest Son throw a baseball. He is Big.
🙏🏻❤👍🏻😃
I want to send you something. What is an address I can use?
🤗👍❤✌
I didn’t know if it was easier to comment on here or abundance plus.
I assume your energizers aren’t able to pump out as much power just because of the so many electric nets you own.
I’m wanting to start rotating my animals and I’m leaning more towards two or three strands of wire/rope.
Do you think that would allow for a greater distance with the same energizer? Thanks!
Yes it would, especially since it will be much less likely to short out. Our nets were always shorting out because it’s so hard to be sure you keep all the strands away from blades of grass.
@@greenthicketfarm That’s what I was thinking. I’ll probably keep chickens in some kind of mobile coop/tractor, but would like to keep pigs or goats or sheep in two or three strands of single wire. Thanks!
@@Greg_Johnson_1986 just make sure you keep it hot, and once you figure out a good layout you are happy with I recommend switching to permanent fencing. Electric is great for in the beginning while you learn the intricacies of your own lands little details, but having woven wire or panels in the end will save you so much grief. As can be seen by how many breakouts Justin has been having, we were in the same boat when we started out and I’ll never go back to that 😂.
@@greenthicketfarm For sure! I need to figure out the pattern of the rotations, and then I can start to think of a more permanent layout. Once again, thanks!
@@Greg_Johnson_1986 anytime! We’ve got a video up about our fencing layout and some of our electric fence tips we’ve learned over the years if that helps also!
👌👌🏻
Seems like your spending a lot of time chasing down boo boos.😎❤❤❤❤
would someone in your homestead community please just say if Art and Bri are okay? thousands of subs left hanging just isn't good.
