Seeing that this video was posted literally as I was sewing is actually hilarious. You made this point really clear in the video but yeah, cheap sewing machines genuinely suck and you're better off just hand sewing whatever it is you're trying to make especially with the thick fabric like you were using (cheap machines like that would probably work well with super basic stitches and thin fabrics)
I literally just switched from hand sewing to machine sewing like a week ago and this video felt like they where listening to me in the walls

Watching you guys struggle suddenly makes me happy my parents and grandparents taught me how to sew with a proper, costs-way-more-than-$65 sewing machine as well as plain needle and thread. Plus I was a nerd in Boy Scouts and got to sew all my patches on.

Y'all should of make toques for the hats, you sew a tube that fits your head circumference then tie one end close with the zip ties, I believe in y'all, keep it up. Also recommend using clothing that fits you as a pattern, other than that best of luck!
