Some incredible finds. The early Florrie forde records are fantastic and sought after. Love the 1930s flexible records too. I have one of those large pallard decca sound boxes that I had from a bunch of spares, mine is missing the needle screw and rubber fitting. You've inspired me to tinker with it. All great items. I bet that retrotech fair was incredible to look around. Whereabouts do they hold the event?
It was an amazing event. I could have bought phonographs and wax cylinders as well as all sorts of acoustic and electronic equipment. Quite pleased with the Florrie Fordes. It was certainly worth hunting through the various boxes. The Pallard needs a bit of a rebuild, certainly the isolation gasket, but I did that on the last one so shouldn't be a problem. The event was at the Warwickshire Event Centre and I'll definitely go again if I have the chance. Thanks 😀 👍
Awsome finds! You can somewhat play edison records with a steel needle if you're careful, if you want to reduce wear then put candle wax on the record while it spinning. also, don't forget to turn the soundbox facing forward like pathe lol.
Yes, there was some good stuff there. It was on again in May this year, and I picked up a few items I haven't covered in videos yet. Diamond discs, I still haven't done anything with, but thanks for the info! 👍😀
Great stash. The easiest (cheapest) way to play the diamond discs is to simply rewire a stereo cartridge. I can send you a pic of mine if you are interested. Beware the governor on the Decca , I think it has eccentric bearings . I hadn’t come across these before and it took me a while to figure it out. I always like to see your new records. The age of the 102 , more or less , should determine which soundbox it should have. Cheers, D
Thanks 😀 👍. Never sure whether people want to see records I buy or not. Some videos do well and some don't. I do have quite a few other records I have acquired fairly recently so I might do another video or 2 like this. For the Diamond disks, yes, a stereo cartridge makes sense. I think I will use the arrangement I had for the cylinder phonograph. That involved sampling both channels and then inverting one of them which I understand achieves the same effect as rewiring the cartridge. Thanks also for the tip on the Decca. The motor does run, but clearly needs a good service. I need to figure out how the machine comes to pieces. I'm saving that for a future video. Might have a look at the 102 motor first. 🤔
The Edison Diamond disks were £5 each, the other records worked out about 50p each. There were much more expensive records there, but I was mainly looking in the random selection boxes on the floor. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks 😀 👍
@@mrrgstuff 2 more questions, do you remember the sellers name and how much did you pay for the small Decca gramophone ? Love those flimsy filmophone and Durium records
Sorry, didn't exchange names with any of the sellers. The small Decca didn't come from the show, but a fairly local antique centre. I managed in the end to get that for £60 as the condition wasn't great and the winding handle was missing
Yes, back when I first had one I had nothing really to compare it to, but now I can see that it is quite cleverly constructed to have as big a diaphragm as it can do. The needle bar pivot is only just above the needle. Thanks 😀 👍
Nice finds. If you make a soundbox for the Edison discs. Make sure the stylus is a diamond and not a needle. As the steel needle will dig into the disc. The reproducer on and Edison floats. I have seen people on RUclips play Edison discs on modern turntables. -Paul
Thanks 😀 👍. I plan to use a modern cartridge for the Edison discs, though I am tempted to build a linear tracking system for it, although I am sure a conventional swing arm would work just fine. It would be also fun to build a conventional acoustic reproducer, though other than using a modern stylus, I am not sure where I would find a suitable diamond 🤔
Nice finds my friend. Thanks for sharing 👍.
Thanks 😀 👍. I hadn't realised quite how much I had bought! 🤔😅
Some great finds!! Enjoy them!
Thanks 😀 👍

How much did you pay per old record ?
Also cost of the single sided ?
Great find…….. especially the florrie Forde records. Brilliant 👏

That Palliard? looks enormous

Plenty of stuff there to keep you occupied.
Indeed 😉 😅. Thanks 😀 👍
