- Fantail are very small and very energetic birds that are notable both for their tolerance around humans and their acrobatic hunts when hunting. I hope you enjoy.

These birds are so cool! I love that they really do look like they have a paper fan in their tails. Thanks for another great NZbird vid 😄
Completely agree!
They're very beautiful when they fan it out and hop from side to side! :)
True
Fantails are very friendly they come and chat to you when you are out in the paddock. One offered me a coach roach once, plucked it off the shed wall and dropped it at my feet, several times putting it closer when I didn't immediately pick it up. Poor bird must of been upset I didn't take such a generous gift! 😊 I've black Fantails in the North Island. That hill looks like Omori or Kuratau...
They're very lovely!
And the hill at the start of and the end of the video? That's Orokonui. :)
That symbolises that they has been something happened around you, many changes but you somehow learn have to change with it all, become stronger and survive. He was offering you insight thru feeding your strength
Another certified hood classic
I'm glad you think so!
@@HenrythePaleoGuy - Every since I did a report on the bald eagle in sixth grade, I’ve been fascinated with how birds fly…
@@fintanbochra so how do they fly?
@@mihailmilev9909 - Carefully…
I love the fantail! One of my favorite birds in NZ, Amazing video dude! Keep up the amazing work!
Certainly one of mine too!
Lots more coming soon! :D
Good old piwakawaka. Always a well enjoyed member of any hike!
The best of companions!
Fantail story: My aunt has an enclosed back porch area, where they keep the firewood and the worm farm. When I was there, a fantail kept coming inside every day (the door is open always) and loudly chattering and chirping at me, and fluttering in front of my face, trying to get my attention. Then it would land on the floor in front of my feet, dancing back and forth energetically, at one point landing on my foot.
I got the feeling it wanted something but I couldn’t figure out what it wanted. I watched it for a while, and eventually i noticed it was darting back amd forth from me to the worm farm. On a hunch, I opened the lid of the worm farm. Immediately a cloud of tiny tiny little flies came out. The fantail dashed about snatching the flies from the air, so fast it was almost a blur. The bird really had been asking me to lift the lid.
After that I lifted the lid for it every day and it was always keen to eat the little flies.
Very intelligent little bird!
Wow! Such a thorough treatment of these beguiling and delightful birds. Many thanks, Hank, for this edifying treat.
👍🏻👍🏻
I'm glad you think so!
They're very cute little birds!
Watching two Fantails darting above our Honeysuckle as I write this.
Entertaining :)
:)
What fierce-looking little boogers they are! Tiny birds seem to have more moxie than the big boys do.
The *fans* will love this!
Hah, I'm sure they will!
Nice. When conditions are right my wife and I can stir up some small moths out of the grass while 3 or 4 fantails take turns picking them off. We just walk through the grass and the Fantails, perched on fenceposts, seem to take turns flying down, catching 2 or more, then return to its post and wait for its next opportunity. I love those birds
Great! They're really awesome to see in action!
I saw a beautiful little fantail
bird flying in front of our house. We have a little garden and that's where I saw it first.
I've never seen one before so I was curious and I came to
know about it's name through Google :D
Today I saw a baby fantail
hopping about among the
trees while I was outside. So
the fantail I saw first must've
been his/her mama :0 My
heart was fluttering
with joy when I saw the little cutie hopping and flying from
one tree to the other ^-^ I
hope the baby stays in our area permanently and comes
around more often :) ❤️❤️❤️
I love them so much. Had many beautiful encounters with them. They are the happy little spirits in the bush. They always cheer me up.
Couldn't agree more!
Very awesome little ones to watch!
another great video and a bird i hope to see one day... reminds me of the local oregon juncos, bushitits, and tree swallows all at once :-)
They're perfect in almost every way!
Incredibly I just had a Fantail come through from my French doors facing my Wild backyard to my living room!
This cute Dare Devil Fantail flew in a couple of circular motions just above my head This was so beautiful and surreal Connecting with nature’s wonderful surprise’s 🕊🌏💖
Excellent wee borb.
The best of borbs.
Interesting little bird 🐦
Sure are! Very cheepy fluffs!
What a beautiful creature...
Sure are!
At my wedding a fantail came in and chirped through out the reception. I have always loved the birds but a few guests were concerned by the superstition involving death. However, someone rather emotionally told me later the bird was relaying a message from a loved one lost and its their way of being there. I loved the sentiment of that idea and feel blessed a fantail felt itself so welcome on my special day.
He's so cute and I love his eyebrows 😂
Seeing them flit about and dance on the ground is always a treat!
They always come into my work later in the day to eat the bugs that gather around our lights. Theyre so damn cute
Looks like a floofly little wagtail with a very similar temperament. Those in flight photos are really cool.
They are closely related, so that tracks.
This is my favourite bird ever
Shout out to birds 😛
:D
Thank you.
You're welcome!
amazing how they get around in slow moton they almost like they float and jump everywhere with hardly any flapping
cool bird
They sure are!
never expected to find v@gina dentata in Maori lore 😱😱😱
There's some insanely weird and cool stuff in there. May well do a video on that, even though it's pretty different to what I normally do.
I ❤ THEM!!!
Best bird a selfish part of me wonders how they would be as pets
From those that have been kept in human care/wild ones that interact with us, not that bad all things considering.
❤❤❤
Spotted grey fantail in my bird bath not four feet from me ❤
3:27 I ... don't understand. Clarification, please?
Maui wanted to destroy the goddess of death, so he shapeshifted himself into a worm, crawled to the goddess of death while she slept, and into her lady parts. The fantail who hated Maui, chirped loudly and woke the goddess. She woke up and crushed Maui to death. Apparently her lady bits were equipped with teeth made of obsidian (razor blade sharp). That is a fear some men have lol. Why Maui’s method? Don’t know!
@@riverAmazonNZ
Why, I'll just be! You've told much and explained ... everything. I wonder if ever there ARE girls with teeth in their Vasagna?
The vivid imagery of so helpless a worm being gnawed up and ground down in an obsidian-toothed Vasagna is a deep thrust to a vital nerve!😬
Firrrrst...!!!
Quick on the mark, just like these little guys!

But, if only I'd be as delightfully charming as these wee aethereal faeries.
