I done the Alpha course many years ago. After learning more about the word of God i can clearly see Gumble teaches another gospel. It is New Age mysticism that he wants to promote. Ex New Ages pick it right away. He also aligns himself with well known prosperity and heretic preachers. He believes the Scriptures are not sufficient and he supports the Catholic religion when it is simply a cult.

this is a bit odd! In the alpha course Rev Gumbel does not cover SIN, nor repentance, nor Holiness. Alpha ignores ALL of this. I fail to see how you can teach these things in the full gaze of TV and yet, Alpha ignores biblical truth that Jesus said "you must be born again"...If Meyer were to read her bible she would know that being overly wealthy is completely again what Jesus taught..."go sell all you have, give to the poor and follow me"...neither Joyce nor Nicky could do these things!

I went through the Alpha course with my neighbour, new to the faith.

I really really don’t understand Nicky Gumbel. He’s clearly educated, appears intelligent, trained as a barrister for goodness sake- and yet he has stated time and time again “I read the New Testament and came to the conclusion-it’s true”. So much for his legal training then. And he constantly quotes The Gospel of John - seemingly unaware that nobody apart from a biblical literalist, believes that it’s anything other than a work of theological fiction.

Some on here have said if you don't agree with the doctrine of a certain preacher or belief system, you are being judgmental. But in choosing Christianity, aren't we "judging" that other religious sects are wrong? Aren't we judging that Christ is the Savior of all?
The Bible says, "The love of money is the root of all evil." If Prosperity Preacher's platforms start with greed. Should we really follow their teachings? Many of these "Name it and Claim it" proponents also teach humans are born "good." Yet God's Word states, "There is no one who does good, not one."
I became a Christian through a Crusade that the late Billy Graham held. Oh, he asked for donations, but that was never the focus of his teachings. He never intimated that by giving money to him, you would receive money. The only thing he promised was that if we received Christ, Christ would receive us.

Everyone has opinions and I wouldn't go on what someone on youtube said about finishing Alpha and saying "this is what they said", it's easy for things to be misinterpreted, and/or, if the Leaders aren't trained properly they could be interjecting their own spin on things. I've never heard Nicky Gumbel say, "we are born good". One of the sessions is "Why Did Jesus Die"....this obviously brings to light that we are all sinners. RUclips videos that are against Alpha and Nicky are assuming cos "this" or "that" wasn't mentioned that it is not believed in. Alpha is an introduction to basic Christianity, many who are seeking come to faith through Alpha. It doesn't stop there, they are encouraged to take follow-up courses so that they can grow in the truth and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

After the session where Mr Gumble (I can't call him Reverend as he seems to have missed the point of that title altogether) talks about speaking in tongues, and implying that anyone can learn how to do it, I just had to go out for a cigarette and a walk around the church. God works in mysterious ways and this was a fine example of that; during my cigarette walk I met a heroin addict who had been injecting in a secluded area of the church's grounds, after chatting with him for about 20 minutes I had given him details of where and how to get help, and four days later an acquaintance of mine who works in drug rehabilitation services informed me that he had been to see them and asked for help. I pray that he recovers from his addictions.

Every one of you who get on here to criticize either one of these people will answer to God one day. Mark my word. You don't know anyone's heart. God didn't call you or anyone else to get online and judge people; you really know NOTHING about either of these Christians ministers. I have watched Joyce for many, many years and I have NEVER heard her say one thing that contradicts the gospel. You are treading on dangerous ground and you've been warned !

    • @verabolton

God does call us to judge the spirits and to recognize false teachers. There is nothing wrong in it: moreover, it's important for our own spiritual health and for keeping the Gospel clear. Joyce M preaces the prosperity gospel which is not the Gospel of Jesus. She does not contradicts the gospel: she twists it - which is more dangerous. Nicky G has similar ideas - as if God was our servant to deliver us everything we ever hoped for. "Because He loves us"
These things can be (and should be) pointed out, there is nothing wrong in listening to a human being with a critical ear. In the light of the way I understand the Bible today I believe that Joyce M is a false teacher, a wolf in sheep skin. We will all answer to God one day: who did we listen to? Did we open our Bible and examed their teaching in the light of His word? The Bible warns us agains false teachers. Theye are here among us.

Read Bart Erhman's Forged or Jesus Interupted, or watch him in some of his many videos on this medium.

They did not speak in incoherent babble like today, but could be understood by people of other languages. God allowed the people to hear it in their native language. He did this to spread the Gospel at that time as the disciples did not speak that many languages.
      Acts 2
2 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to *speak with other tongues,* as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that *every man heard them speak in his own language.*
7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilæans?
8 *And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?*

@@dlg1776 All the people gathered in Jerusalem spoke one of three languages already - Koine Greek (the language of the NT and of commerce), Hebrew (the language of synagogue and temple) and/or Aramaic (the popular language of the region.) Many spoke all three. The miracle of Pentecost was that they heard them speaking in their "own" languages (that is, their native languages). Tongues were not needed to communicate the gospel. When Peter stood to preach he did just fine in a single language with thousands converted.

And Paul, when speaking of tounges in 1 Cor says that their purpose is to "build one's self up spiritually." There is NOWHERE in the New Testament that says the purpose of tongues was evangelism.
