Thanks for posting! I was so inspired by Where the Wild Things Are that I always wanted to see a sequel and since Sendak never did one, I did my own called Night Wall. Sadly, I didn't get any attention for it at all, not here in Canada or anywhere, as the publisher I had was absolutely terrible at promoting the book. However, children love it and I'm planning to self-publish it some time soon.
Were they neighbors in CT? There seems to be a genuine ease between these two. It's a lovely interview. Especially love the pictures of his siblings and parents.
I remember this book and the author. The other books I remember by the author are Oustide Over There and the Nutshell kids library. I know the book Alligators all around by heart.
It's called The Art of Maurice Sendak, I got a chance to check it out (rebound of course) from my school library in college. It really is gorgeous! Also has writing on him by Tony Kushner, they were friends.
Ha, so he admitted that Ida was his siter, I was suspecting that as at one point when she was supposed to look after him, he got lost. She was 9 years older, had a boyfriend at a time and the three of them were out to see a movie or sth like that. OUTSIDE OVER THERE presented Ida as thoughtless, careless and sly. I wonder what his sister thought of the book.
That last book that he says is his favorite book which he wrote is actually what I think originally helped inspired Jim Henson's "Labyrinth".

What Martha Stewart says about Maurice at 2:00 is exactly what I use a lot!
RIP AMAZING MAURICE SENDAK
Maurice Sendak is proof to me that you can love someone you will never meet.
I remembered that this book is also a famous Warner Brothers movie and this book won the caldecot medal.
I also remembered that this book was on Reading Explorers.

The difference between this and Stephen Colbert's interview with Maurice is like night and day.
That's because Martha Stewart isn't a hack like Stephen Colbert
Colbert has a demonic spirit influencing everything he says and does. He's creepy.
What was the name of that collection book she held up at the beginning? It looks really nice

The lady who took care of Sendak towards the end of his life said in an interview that women love Sendak and propose to him about 5-6 times a year.
