After watching your video, there hasn't been any significant changes from my first stay at the Areca Lodge some 15+ years ago. If you've never stayed there before, and you can afford it, book the best $$$ room (renovated) available since there is a significant difference (quality) in the rooms based on the price. If you like to sunbath, the swimming pool deck has a very short sun exposure because of the surrounding buildings. If you're an early or light sleeper, you can hear noise from the surrounding bars and clubs so you might want to consider bringing earplugs. Overall, the Areca Lodge is a good hotel for the price, location, and amenities.
I stayed there last fall for a few nights. It was ok, nothing special. Be careful when you check in, they will try to put you in the rear building in a run down old room when you booked a much larger and better room. Many hotels will try this trick if they think they can get away with it. On a positive note, the breakfast was decent.
I also go to use a gym in pattaya. But in a 5 minute walk you have 3 public gyms near areca lodge. 7fitness 2nd road, sun fitness at soi buakhao and cocos gym at the 4th floor of mikes shopping.

Thanks for this tip, and I've just now booked a deluxe plus pool view King for 10 days. I'll look out for what you've mentioned.

For this price I would book a suite room in Hotel Nalanta. 1 min to tree town 2 min to Buakhao Food market by walk.
They refurbished the corona wing. My last visit in Sept the room I had was tired the bathroom was really poor
I've just booked 10 days with Areca and got the confirmation saying that my room will be in Corona Wing. Has Corona wing been definitely refurshed?
Was there night noise from the bars?
Not in this side of the building. Rooms facing swimming pool / Soi Diana might have some noise.
It’s in a good location and the room was nice. However, the gym was a disappointment.
Best rooms over looking pool are the cheapest
No view but the room is tidy enough, I keep hearing bad things about hotel kettles, probably best to bring a travel kettle from home
