I think that this is another scene reinforced that Gia really loved and wanted to be with Nikolas for better or for worse and that she was no damsel in distress and wanted and expected to be included in every aspect of Nikolas's life and she was. That's the main difference between his relationship with Gia and any other woman that he is in a romantic relationship with and look at how many different characters are in this storyline too and this is easily still Nikolas's best storyline even after all this time.
