Good afternoon Brian, This lake used to be owned by the Walt Keeler company back in the 60's - 70's. Don't know when they finally sold it & the property. You do realize by removing those plants at the waters edge that would have trapped more sand. The island will now degrade more as more sand is eroded away. Plants and roots act to stabilize erosion.
I agree with suemasongreen. I love a neat yard and keep mine squared away… But I’m also constantly building habitat for birds/hummingbirds/butterflies/other species etc. I see no reason to clear a natural habitat. One can certainly “think about” removing the dead growth of a tree… But even a dead tree is habitat for birds, insects, etc. This is Man’s folly to make the Earth the way he wants to see it, instead of the way it’s meant to exist naturally and function.
Living here in The Great Lakes state (Michigan) and being an outdoors lady, I understand the importance of the vegetation along and around lakes. Our DNR ( Department of Natural Resources) have laws governing these areas. In many instances it's illegal to change the coastline of our lakes. Wild life depend on these natural ocourances for shelter, shade and food. You both worked very hard on this project, but it's not my favorite scenario. I think it would have been nice to clear paths and have left stumps for sitting on and enjoying nature in its natural state.
Welp this isn't Michigan for starters but it is America 🇺🇸 and it's a man made island and in AMERICA MAN can do whatever they want with their island. Plus now I don't know if it's just me but I noticed birds like geese or ducks can actually walk around on the island now. But you keep on crying about it. Maybe call the mayor and let him know about your issues.
It was a mistake to cut down the vegetation on the edge of the island, the excitement will follow. The trees and all the vegetation help prevent further eroding and disappearing. Cleaning it of garbage and organizing it a little would be ideal but plants are fundamental.
Just because they trimmed down the vegetation doesn't mean it's gonna cause erosion because they left the roots and everything still growing they just cut the overgrowth down, and dead trees aren't going to help the looks and functionality of the island
As the bushes were just cut down and not actually removed, they will soon spring back to life. Necessary to prevent wind erosion of the sand on the island. Periodic cutting back will be good to aid fresh growth, but take care not to create an erosion problem. Also some dead wood of fallen trees provides a great habitat for birds and wild life.
Yes, hopefully the rootswill help with the erosion and I’m sure another couple windy days, and there will be some more limbs down. We didn’t get all of them from the big trees!!
@@TopNotchLawns My husband fishes & I wasn't sure how deep the lake is but he claims that the fish will hang around the old trees in the water for fishing ❤️
Wow, that went from "overgrown" to a dirt patch with a few trees. I get that maintaining an island can be necessary, but the amount of habitat that was just decimated is unbelievable. Hopefully the owners will plant some shrubs to help hold on to the sand now that there isn't anything keeping it from washing away or wind erosion.
We didn’t take out most of the roots, so I’m sure at least some of it will come back! Hopefully they will get a chance to do what they were hoping to use it for now!
My guess is that to preserve the island if the company that owns it would be willing to introduce some indigenous vegetation to the sandy soil that could minimize or stop the erosion. And also add a layer of small rock along the shoreline that wiil hold the sand. (I used to to do this kind of work professionally to restore eroded riverbanks and lake shores.) Great job though, the little island has alot of potential.

Brian what a top notch transformation on the island. It looks so inviting now and hopefully it will be visited at some point in the not too distant future and enjoyed by all who visit. WOW❤
Hopefully! Will definitely make it safer and more inviting for this company’s business! Hope you’re having a good day
That’s definitely very kool job Looks Excellent
Thanks 😊👍👍👋
Wouldn't cutting down all the vegetation cause the island to erode even faster?
Really enjoyed this clean up, loved the fires to remove debris and how you transported equipment. Great job!!!!😊😊😊😊
Wow! Now it looks like an island! Nice clean up Brian!
God Bless
I loved this video ‼️👍💛 reminds me of going up north in Michigan 😍
The sped up traffic noises would make really good Halloween sounds!
I think it looks better and more inviting now.

Wow. How beautiful!!! Y’all worked your behinds off doing that!!! Kudos dudes!!!
Looks amazing ,excellent job guys.🙏🙏God bless you for all the hard work you all do.
You did a fantastic job cleaning up the dead & down trees. I have read a lot of comments! What you did to clean up this island, won't hurt the island. It isn't going to cause the island to disappear. There isn't a lot of wildlife living on the island until spring. The grass will start growing back when it rains so spring Geese & ducks nest in tall grass. & other birds nest in the trees. Sometimes we need to take care of tiny lake islands. Don't listen to all negative comments. As a FS Timber Management you did it just right! ❤
@@kristenkylemack9477 thanks for your comment. I’m scrolling through here and just rolling my eyes. I swear some care more about spiders and crickets than people.
Well that's a makeover you don't see ever week!
It was cool to watch
