hey bro, i dont think using your own name in your code is narcissistic. i do it all the time. in fact, I think it's humble! if you named your model format something like "psp model," that would come across as declaring your personal model format as good enough to seem official/standard. but if you use your own name, it shows that the format is for your own personal use and unlikely to be useful for others :)
Love these projects! I started something akin to that for the PS2, but never finished. I wrote a Unity Scene converter to a custom format, that was later loaded into a custom game engine (that I made using the Tyra engine for the PS2). The beauty of that is that all model formats are easily setup because Unity parses them, and then just gives me the raw triangle data. Then I can easily convert the texcoords to a PS2 acceptable format. I need to open-source this, hit me up!

3:24 you can do this on ps3/xb360/d3d9, and every graphics API beyond 2005. People have custom formats on ps5/xsx to do exactly this, where you just load data and render with no parsing overhead. Gotta love evolution of hardware and software!

Hang on a minute, did I misunderstand what you said about normals on the PS1? I interpreted it as you don’t load in normals for your polygons when converting/importing your data? So does that mean you have to calculate them in realtime to do culling or Lambert shading, or does the PS1 use some other method for that? Looking forward to following your journey programming the PSP, I’ve always been fascinated by it! Keep being awesome!
actually nevím jak moc by to bylo possible, ale čistě teoreticky by šla pak ta PS1 hra převést na PSP eboot formát, ale nejsem si vůbec jistej jak dobře by to zvládl PSX2PSP converter. možná kdyby s tím byly komplikace mohlo by z toho být nice content na nové video. otázkou je jak moc by ses s tím chtěl patlat xD. ale kdybys chtěl nějakej feedback z real (PSP) hardwaru a měl v plánu to i optimalizovat ať už tenhle teaser nebo PS1 "port" pro real (PSP) hardware I´m in! akorát mě teda asi nemine nějaké linux distro nebo WSL na zkompilování xD ale jinak mega dobrej content, cením!😎😎

This is huge for the homebrew scene to my knowledge there's no simple way of getting 3d files to the PSP like this

PS1 uses vertex winding to determine the orientation of the faces. When it comes to lighting you have to calculate it yourself on it.
