  • Video shows cleaning a gas dryer vent with a Lintcleaner brush kit and extension. It only took about fifteen minutes to clean the whole run of aluminum rigid duct. Just make sure you always keep the drill spinning in the same direction, so you don't unscrew the brush in the middle of the run.
    I hope the video helps you understand how you can easily clean your dryer duct with a shop-vac, cordless drill, and the Linteater kit.

    Pro tip. Never run the drill in reverse. The rods may come apart inside your duct work. Another tip is to put some black tape on where you attach the sections of rod together just to make sure they don't come apart in the ducting.

    Glad I found this. I just go a D80 code on my dryer. Plus, I have not performed a real thorough cleaning since we've been in the house, so it's time. Already ordered the kit.
    Thanks for the video.

  • @tlanc1283
    @tlanc1283 3 года назад +1

    I pushed the rod back and forth and then pulled it out to reveal large lint balls each time. The lint was even wrapped around the rod with long hair/string, which no video ever showed. Glad we didn't have a fire with how much lint was cleaned out in just the first 12 feet. The exhaust pipe goes from four inches to six inches; the six-inch pipe runs about 16 feet to the outside side of house.

      It sounds like your duct was very clogged. Good you go to it now. I didn't have a large lint balls, but I also cleaned it about once a year.

    that's great...my outlet makes a hard 90 degree (about a 1/4 inch opening)
    turn down under the sub floor

    • @DavidTrebacz
      @DavidTrebacz  6 лет назад +1

      My run actually had 3 - 90 degree bends in it (not showed in the video) inside the house. Our basement ceiling was open. The cleaner navigated the bends without a problem. I didn't run the drill very fast, but it made the sharp turns without an issue. I think the rods are fiberglass (like a thick fishing pole). They made the bends quite easily.

    looks like a great tool. yea never go backwards. lol and always use air fluff so there's no heat in the dryer to start a fire. still should check the lint trap and clean that area as well. clean the vent line, lint trap area, and ya basically have a new dryer.

  • @KingGene
    @KingGene 9 лет назад +1

    Yes but do you have any 90 degree turns and can these rods make them? I have at least two90's because my pipe goes down under the slab from my utility room 90's out towards the front of the house then 90's back up in front of the house. Also there is no Amazon links shared here.

    • @DavidTrebacz
      @DavidTrebacz  9 лет назад +2

      KingGene I had had 5 ninety degree elbows in my run. It worked around the corners without a problem. I can't even tell when I get near one of the dryer vent elbows. I think it's the way the cleaning brush is designed.

    If this stuff builds up in the vent can it cause on odor? I just got a new house and there is a weird smell to it. We keep trying to figure out where it's coming from. We went outside and saw that our vent has tons of same stuff that you pulled out of yours in the video. If we clean it out do you think that will help? We're not sure where the smell is coming from.

    I had a bad experience with those cleaners, make sure you know how your pipes are running, specially if your dryer vent runs to the roof and secure the brush and all joints with a strong tape, I got my stuck inside the pipe I had to brake the wall.

    • @DavidTrebacz
      @DavidTrebacz  5 лет назад

      I never felt like you need to secure the joints with tape. Just make sure you are always have the drill going forward. Don't reverse it or the sections will unscrew in the dryer pipe. That would be a problem...

    You don't show the installation of the other pc. (black round 3'' pc).
    The pc that prevents the brush from entering the dryer itself.
    (The black 3'' round pc with a grate on one end of it).
    If the brush enters the dryer, you could damage the dryer.

    • @DavidTrebacz
      @DavidTrebacz  7 лет назад +4

      Agreed Phil. In my case my setup didn't go in that far, so I didn't use/need it. While doing this I did have a partner listen to the pipe as we pushed the cleaner through it. In this case it was an open basement, so it was pretty easy.

    Can this tool also be used for bathroom exhaust fans as well?

    • @DavidTrebacz1
      @DavidTrebacz1 7 лет назад +1

      It won't work on any plastic hose. It would tear it up. In my experience bathroom fans uses the less expensive and easier to run vinyl hose. So be careful if you do decide to try it.
      That said if bathroom vents use rigid aluminum tube same size as a dryer (4"), I don't see why it wouldn't work.

      It says on the box it'll work on the rigid 4" type ...which is good cuz that's mine and I'm cleaning that along with the dryer...fingers crossed haha

    Can you recommend the min HP the Vac needs to be for this project? I have a 2.5hp and I assume it's not powerful enough

    • @DavidTrebacz
      @DavidTrebacz  7 лет назад

      The one I used in the video was a 5.0 hp Craftsman shop-vac. It had more than enough power. The brush really does the work of loosening the lint, then the vacuum pulls it out. As long as your 2.5 hp is clen I would try it, before getting (or borrowing) a larger shop-vac...

    You didn't show how you removed the vent cover.
    I rent in a house, and the owner says he cleans out the vent once a year in the Spring.
    Didn't know this had to be done until I read the Owner's Manual for the dryer.

    • @deniseherud
      @deniseherud 6 лет назад

      jaworskij if u have louvers u bend the middle and pull each slat out being careful not to break little end nubs. Other types just slide up from the vent pipe...

    I have caught a rat in my back yard every 3rd day - 4 times. I have a garden, which has not been touched and also a small water feature I made with a 3' diameter tub, rocks and pump. I thought that it might be my neighbor across the fairway who has a fruit tree and then come back to my house, hearing the water for a drink. Every time, same place, next to the pond. After 3rd, I cleaned out, emptied the pond plus poured ammonia in and around the area. We laughed last night because the smell would keep anything away. Wrong. 4th caught last night. We think they might be coming from the dryer vent! UGH! I have this tool. Does it work from the inside of the house out? I'm not sure how the vents work or if there is a screen on the vent that goes under the house. Using your method what happens if we encounter them? Yikes! I'm so grossed out.

    • @DavidTrebacz
      @DavidTrebacz  7 лет назад

      If there is a dead rat in your dryer vent I'm not sure this would be the way to get it out. It's really meant for lint and then vacuuming the light lint out. If the rat was "dried out" perhaps the vacuum would suck it out. If it were fresh I don't think it would move. This product is designed to be used from the outside. I think there is probably a better way to remove a rat from your dryer vent (IMHO).

      @shericreates 7 лет назад +1

      Good to go! I had a service come out and cleaned it for me. No rats, mice or any other pest. In fact he said I had the cleanest vent he had ever done. I try to clean it often. BUT I did install wire screen around it just in case!

    By code this isn't legal, if you look it up you must have a booster blower for runs longer than (don't Qoute me for your city/state) 12ft or 2 or more 90 degree angles of any length.

    • @DavidTrebacz
      @DavidTrebacz  8 лет назад

      +Rx7Nut Not sure, but in Illinois this passed inspection when we had the house built. Perhaps the inspector missed it, but it really is 24 foot long duct with a few elbows in it. The length is also one of the reasons I clean the dryer duct regularly.

    as a former appliance technician, I suggest you not waste all your money on those gadgets. Get a LEAF BLOWER, put it into your vent from the house to the outside, and blow the lint out. All those gadgets you accumulated are a waste of time and money!!!

    • @MehdiAnis
      @MehdiAnis 4 года назад

      How do you put blower to the vent opening inside of the house/laundry room? That takes more work for an average home owner to relocate bulky dryer, unscrew flexible pipe, connect blower air-tightly. Most laundry room don't have enough space to move the dryer, and get behind it anyway. I would rather do it with these gadgets than waste money on a Vent Cleaning Technician/Company. Anyone else reading this, you can't imagine how much dust you will generate once you turn on the blower without air-tighting it - I've seen it myself, very bad idea.
