Norwegian memes have the amazing ability to be funny, entertaining, and educational. That is why today I am very excited to enjoy some funny Norwegian memes. Also I will hopefully gain insight into the Norwegian culture. If you enjoyed the video feel free to leave a comment, like, or subscribe for more!
Honestly, im impressed you remembered that Norway was doing pretty good even before the oil, a lot of people, even Norwegians, think Norway was very poor before the oil. So props for that
100% agree, the fact that he remembers. props
I remember some of those houses with huge, perfect gardens, stuffed with trees, usually hung apples on their fence every fall. Not common, but I see it now and then 🙂
“Don’t complain, it is more expensive in Norway” I mean you ain’t wrong. We do massive shopping hauls when we travel somewhere cheaper, we go all out😂👌
The Kongsberg incident was absolutely real as some others have mentioned below.
I live in Kongsberg and did at the time as well. My father in law only lives approximately 300m away from where this was happening. My wife and I was at his house during this. We locked up his house, took him with us and drove around the outskirts of the town to get back to our place witch is further away. The whole thing was terrifying and nobody knew exactly where he ran off to after he left the store. I have so much sympathy for those who died and those left behind after this. Many people got mentally scarred for life.
You should look this up and do a reaction to this. And also do a reaction to Kongsberg as a whole. A beautiful city with a rich history, where most of it is good 🙂
16:08 Never heard of this before, and, unless the owners of these apples have told the entire village/town/city that the apples hanging in bags from their fence are free to grab, most Norwegians would probably completely ignore the bags of apples as they pass them by, or stare confusedly at the bags and wonder why the heck they're hanging bagged apples from their fence like that. There doesn't seem to be a sign indicating to passerby's that the bags are for anyone who wants them, so most people would not take them.
In Oslo tomorrow sunup is 0353am and sundown is 1043pm. Short winter days and long summer nights.
Here in Leknes, Lofoten, sunrise was May 26th at 00:00. Sunset is July 18th at 00:55...
Sad but true! The attack took place on 13 Oct 2021, and as it stands, five were killed and three injured.
And afair one was slightly injured with an arrow. The kills were with a knife, yet still the headlines are about the bow and arrow and you'd think that's what killed them.
I have actually seen it once, that someone has hung apple bags on the fence. But that it is common is probably a strong exaggeration.
The prison memes are funny, absolutely. But, irl, the main concern anyone should have about the justice system is whether or not it fulfills its purpose. Some think that purpose is punishment. Personally I am happy that my country has decided to focus on rehabilitation and reforming criminals. And the bottom line is that it works. It probably wouldn't work in every country, especially bigger ones, because it requires a huge shift in culture and social dynamics, but I would hope to see smaller countries adopt this model, and try to move away from popular politics like 'hard on crime' and other misnomers.
The singing at 3 AM meme is a reference to the movie "Frozen 2" that takes place in a Norwegian setting and it's Queen Elsa singing "Into The Unknown" in that meme, waking up everyone in Arendelle as a result.
Yeah, We know about the Confederate Flag, the Gettysburg, the clash between The Monitor and Merrimack, the H.L.Hunley submarine, The siege of Yorktown, Mayor General John Sedgwick's famous last words. etc...
Electricity costs alot more after the ukraine war, Norway supply europe now with cheap electricity, so we have little left and prices goes up for us… people are mad about it actually.. the state substitate the bills now too, but still it has gone up
Ja, dumme politikere som trodde på Statkraft som sa prisene ville øke med 3 øre
The free Apple thingy is true in my hometown .
The singing at 3 am, i bet its some drunk loud having a home party or leaving a party being to loud after drinking.
It definitely isn’t okay behavior so it is probably some drunk person joke.
Tyler, you just reacted to a meme about the sun being up at night in Norway, and two seconds later you forget and thinks we live in the dark...
That Tyler is a jerk is not a meme.
Amnesia
han svarer ikke kommentarfelt xD
Leser han de mon tro
Yes, this was really insane! And the fact that he feels sorry for us not having as great a climate as in the US (besides it differs on where you are in the US). We want 4 distinct seasons and now it's summer and the sun hardly sets. Would never trade!
Its also nice to open your bedroom door, to find out you forgot to close the window and your pillow is now snow.
2:30
You don't need to go to northern Norway to experience this.
My friend forgot to close his sunroof in september and woke up with snow inside his car. A out of season snowfall came and most cars were on summer tires aswell. I live in mid Norway
For context, all the "norwegians" in the comic-netflix-norway picture are Thor
They should have included the version of Thor in Stargate SG-1.
06:30
Winter: Little to no daylight.
Summer: Little to no night-dark...
Seriously, right now, during summertime, I could take a bikeride without any lights on, and do just fine. There is no darkness between dusk and dawn. The twilight is just that strong and long-lasting. Futher north, and there's not even that. Just the sun, all the time.
A car can be filled with snow in minutes if you leave a window open.
During the winter we have some hours of day light where i live before it gets dark.
In the summer it is daylight 24/7
2:31 As a resident of northern Norway i can confirm, you must keep a close eye on children to make sure they close the door all the way. Also no this hasn’t happened to me(yet)
16:46 - Never seen fruit on fences, but it is quite common to share big harvests with friends and family, and if theres still alot left over I see people posting in local community groups or hanging notes at local stores etc that anyone interested can contact or come pick some up.
I don't think this is common, but very plausible. I got a friend that came to my job with a bag of apples, because he couldn't eat it all himself.
@@PetterVessel Oh yeah sharing like that is pretty normal, people take anything from leftovers from birthday parties to produce from their gardens and give it to friends, family, coworkers etc. It makes alot of sense since its perishables and if you dont let someone enjoy it right now, noone will.
Ive just never seen this particular version where people portion and hang out goods for people to take. In my area its pretty common with self service on overproducing farms though, but thats mostly hey come pick as much potato as you want and then we trust you leave the money you are supposed to.
Responding to the picture of the snow-filled car in Northern Norway: Yes. When we lived there, one winter it snowed so fine that when we awoke in the morning the entrance hall was filled with snow which had blown through the keyhole (note, this was a modern lock, not an old fashioned one), and we had to shovel our way out from both sides of the door.
This time he asked many questions he wanted an answer to, but he never read those answers anyway. At least what it seems like. Tyler, if you are reading comments, you should reply to them so that we know you're following along.
You should watch Michael Moore's deleted scenes from his movie about Norway's prison. He cut it out because he thought people would be really mad if they knew how good we have it.
the apples was probably someone fed up with people climbing over the fence to steal apples from the trees. And instead hung bags with apples on the fence. And In Norway pretty much everyone has access to internet and uses t frequently. And it has been so for a long time. Norway was actually one of the first islands in the world with a Internet connection.
Sun in summer at night… we definitely notice when going to bed, blackout curtains are a blessing🙏
About the daylight in Norway, now in summer time, the sun comes up at 05.30 AM and goes down around 22.00. But in winter time the sun is up maybe 3-4 hours. A big contrast depending on the season. But most people here think it's a nice thing, actually.
Norwegians have more daylight today than you, Tyler. In the winter, it's a different story
06:34 I see snow on the peaks of the mountains in the background, so I assume this is representing Norway in Winter, and if so, this is absolutely correct. During the darkest part of the year, - excluding the parts that have night or day most of the year - the sun goes down perhaps an hour or two after it comes up, or it feels that way at the very least.
Norwegian here, not heard about that last one, but what do happen at least here I live, some of those with apple trees do set out a basket with apple in it for people to take instead of getting (mostly) kids in there garden "stealing” there apples
The apples on the fence... Might happen somewhere or maybe not like that which is pictured. I myself haven't ever seen it, only seen lots of apple trees full of apples which seems to never be picked! 😂
The apple thing is quite normal at least in smaller areas and neighborhoods, but it has become more common to see the last few years I guess
Right now, today, we have daylight from 0354 am to 1041 pm in Oslo, so that South Park one was about winter....or summer in America I guess 😂
It's how prisons is supposed to be.
I lived in the south of Norway for many years, longing for home. It felt so wrong to have a sunset in the middle of the summer! It gives me solar eclipse vibes. Now that I am back home I love sleeping in my living room, on the couch, surrounded by sunlight. It is like a loving hug in my face.
Yeah, and it is soooo tacky to have the sun shine on the Christmas tree, it is too blingbling and sparkly. I need to remove all Christmas decorations before morning sun rays peek into the living room! Some time mid-February
In wintertime we get, based on where you live, some sunlight, a few hours, or nothing at all, in North norway you get sun all day during summer, and during winter it's opposite
I live down South in Norway, and I can see sunlight throughout most of the night. It still gets dark, but in the horizon I can see the sky painted from sunlight😅 Like a forever sunset
(This is during summer time)
03:05 "Is this true?" Yes/no, it really depends on your country's average wages vs cost of living. Norwegians are generally paid more than enough money that we can afford to rent or buy our own homes with down-payment, pay for all the bills and expenses, and still have plenty money left-over for either saving or spending on non-essential stuff. So, for Norwegians, it isn't actually that bad, even though we still complain about things being expensive. But if you were to visit Norway from a country that doesn't pay as much wages as you'd get working in Norway, then everything here would definitely be even more expensive.
03:50 As a follow-up, comparing USA to Norway makes USA more expensive, as cost of living in the US is far higher compared to their average wages. Cost of living and average wages in Norway is far more equal.
Now, the sun doesnt go down at all in the middle of Norway, light all day and night.
Yes, prices are a bit high at the moment here, but it is also generally high when looked at from the outside since we have a higher wage so people have more money to use.
This is why if you go to a country where wages aren't great, things are usually really cheap.
The breast size meme is factually accurate - both with the breast size and with the happiness
if there is a bowling alley in a Norwegian prison, I will tax money back
Also, Iceland came from people being exiled from Norway during viking times.
It's kinda like the UK sending their prisoners to Australia.
The Kongsberg incident is true I’m sad to say. It was an individual suffering mentally.
The apple thing I heard of. This was in my hometown. We read about it in the newspaper. Since more have done the same. But for the most part there are sites on Facebook where people can announce if they have fruits or berries people can come to pick, if they’re not gonna use it themselves.
It is not true that they were killed by arrows. The mentally ill person had arrows and used them, but he did not kill anyone with arrows.
You don’t have to leave the whole door open, one inch open of the window makes this happen!! Eva, Oslo, Norway 😊
There is a new series in Norway now, that's about Oslo Prison. Maybe an eye opener for some of us Norwegians.
16:40
AFAIK this is a tradition in just one village or town somewhere.
There is a Neo-Nazi flag that resembles the Norwegian flag but has a black middle instead of blue. As a result, some people mistakenly believe the Norwegian flag is racist.
forgot my car window open once, and my car looked almost like that inside..
As a Norwegian, a bowlingalley in one of our prisons would not surprise me one bit.
Haha...
We don’t have bowling alleys in our prisons here in Norway, we have to let people out of prison on Tuesdays so they can go bowling
there is also the opposite of there being almost no sunlight all day.
@7:12 It varies by season though. I'm near Bergen and these days Its daylight from like 4am until almost midnight in the south. Due to mountains direct sun is blocked a bit, but I still get the sun on my bedroom window before 6am and it goes behind a mountain around 8pm or so.
In winter its dark until around 9am or so and its dark again at 4pm. Near winter solstice I barely get a glimpse of the sun through a dip in the mountain due to a valley.
He used bow and arrow, but killed the five people with knife.
Nobody in Norway likes to be imprisoned, trust me! The only difference is that our methods work better than yours if you look at the recurrence rate. If you stop focusing on the facilities in Norwegian prisons and instead focus on the rehabilitation and the results, you would see why we do what we do. Unfortunately, US citizens are more concerned with revenge than with results to realize it.
The apple thing is something that happens wherever someone has too many apples or other fruit in their garden for their own consumption. I've seen it in several places I've lived and visited in Bergen, Stord, Haugesund, Karmøy, Horten, Kvinesdal, Oslo and so on. Quite common and quite kind.
Living in Trondheim. Today: sunrise 3:02AM sunset 11:37PM. Still, it is not dark during the time the sun is down...
Never seen the apples on fence.. but i have had ppl that said you can just pick it from the tree because it has to much fruit. Ps the power thing is that the power price has gone up alot after Germany stopped nuclear powerplant and didnt get gas from Germany. We sold all power to them went from lowest power price to highest in Europe.
I live below the artic circle in norway and during the winter its still like 5 to 4 and a half hours of sun
8:44 A NON-NORWEGIAN IS HOLDING THE FLAG DOWN!!!!!!!!QUICK, GUARDS, GET EM!!!
11:47 Robin hood steals from the rich and the bottom picture was him
Although the killer had a bow and arrows, he did not kill anyone with the arrows.
10:58 Some prisons do, actually.
In summer we have long days, where it almost never gets dark even here in Oslo. Conversely in wintertime it is dark when you go to work in the morning, and the sun is down again before you go back home. Hence the vitamin D and Omega-3 fish oil supplements are popular.
Sadly the psychiatric healthcare reform in the 1990s have led to some terrible mass murders like the one in Kongsberg with the bow and arrow, and the most deadly single shooter attack in the world at Utøya.
Apparently the breast size thing is based on data, probably underwear sales data, and Norwegians mainly look like the Netflix version.
Well Norway earned a lot of money with the timber industry in the past. But remember for hundreds of years, that money went pretty much in its entirety to Denmark or Sweder. Depending on who "owned" Norway. and no. There is no bowling alley in Norwegian Prisons.
We have as much daylight as anywhere else - but differently distributed - we have white nights i summer and dark days during the darkest winter month. Spring and Fall Are similar as everywhere else
"Norway don't get a lot of daylight" is not a fair statement. before the spring equinox, we have shorter days than you, but between spring equinox and fall equinox, we have more daylight than you. It evens out perfectly over a whole year.
2:25 I saw a car like that at the car-park at work. It had been standing for a day in heavy snow with both windows open. I checked the license-plate, it was someone living in a nearby house. I called up the owner and alerted him. Don't know if there was permanent damage, but I never saw that car again.
I mean, I'm in Bergen and it's sunny until past midnight at this time of year.
If we are still singing 3 in the morning, we are drunk vikings.
Had a party in a mountain cabin whit 24 Norwegians and 1 Swede. When we was starting take shots for breakfast 9 next morning the sweed wanted to die 😂
So yes we sing 3-4-5 in the morning and everyone thinking on that the next morning
About things being expensive, some complain about it but most don't because they understand that to linked to salaries and the economy in general. Can't have both high wages and prices like we lived in a country where they have 1/4 of the income.
Frozen is set in Norway (Arendal), and I'm assuming it's refering to Elsa singing at night.
About the boob sizes: I feel a need to point out that Iceland was originally a Norwegian colony.
We hung our excess apples on our great aunts fence when i was kid
I don't think there are bowling alleys in Norwegian prisons.
But I think they get Wii's so they may be able to play bowling in Wii sports.
We normaly doesnt do that apple thing, but I have seen it both on FB and Instagram..
Norway was never poor before the oil😂 we had lumber floating down rivers to the coasts to be shipped out to other countries and then came the train and we still sold more lumber than our neighbor countries
You have to remember that even if our prisons are nice compared to other places, our standards of living for even the least wealthy among us are just that much greater too. Prison still sucks big time for any Norwegian being imprisoned, because it still means your standards of living go down significantly. It just looks like a raise in standards for other countries because standards of living are that much worse in those countries. Also you still loose freedoms to pursue exactly what you want, so people aren't going out of their way to get incarcerated, we have better options outside of jail.
The confederate flag, the worlds biggest participation trophy
the birds are singing 3 in the morning yea.
The seagull's are problem the entire day.
I am from Norway and that people are singing at 3 in the morning it's true in my Neaiber hood it's not singing all the time but it's music and doog are barking at 3 in the morning and when it's summer it's concert close wher I live so I are a wake to 12 at night I am going carsy soon but not all people are singing 3 in the morning😊😐
02:00
ei låv spelling inglish using te nårwigian alfabet fonetikli. bøt it dås lak in konsistansi.
08:00
You are forgetting about the fish.
2:30 Sure has Tyler. I forgot to close the window all the way on the driver side and parked on a friday at a mountain lodge, went to warm up the car on sunday and it was iced over the entire cabin. the car was a writeoff..
norway was a potato country before the oil Tyler. we had nothing..
Either the apple thing is a lie, or it's something very local so only people in a small area know it.
12:00 The title is an event that happened but the bow and arrow never killed anybody in that incident, all the dead was killed by knife
i live in norway,at 58 degrees north, and the sun is down 4 to 5 hours here now.
10:46 Why not ?!
Us Norwegians obviously loves to feel sorry for ourselfs. Not something this one is proud of. We can no longer say we are more expensive. Food prices in Us (and many others) i would say are very similar to Norways prices now. Stop complaining people!😅
Fun fact about our prison system it comes from usa the whole idea of being humane and focus on the road back to society is american
Apple give-away happens :)
11:34
Sadly it's true
On October 2021 the police received a report that a man was shooting with a bow and arrow at a grocery store in Kongsberg.
Espen Andersen Bråthen (40s) killed four women and one man during the Wednesday evening
He got out before the police managed to arrest him.
Bråthen was arrested 37 minutes after the first reports about the incident came.
Three experts concluded that Bråthen had a strongly deviant state of mind on the evening when he carried out the attack.
Bråthen has a long history of mental illness. In 2007, he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, where psychosis is a prominent feature. The forensic psychiatrists who have assessed Bråthen believe that he still has the diagnosis, and that it is chronic
The prison system is pretty good. Lol yeah people sing on the way home from a night out drinking🤣 classic👍 in the south - south-east in the summer its only dark a couple of hours but in the winter its dark at 16:00 pm and stays dark until 10:00 am😊 if you are not a rasist in Norway you are one with every ethnicity 🥰
Alaska is in America and is cold as hell
We have 24/7 sunlight where i live now.
Yes it’s happends all the time here.
And you are right, Norway was never as poor as some like to potray it as
There are prisons here that get dangerously hot in summer and pretty cold in winter, old/dry bread and cold dinners, no gyms, no activities, it`s not the Ritz everywhere, but criminals come here with the specific purpose of breaking the law to have a "vacation" in a Norwegian prison, because it`s better than being poor where they`re from..
It`d be better if people thought our prisons were horrible, we`d have less crime if people didn`t think it`s some sort of utopia, because it`s not, and the tax payers have to not only pay for this, but are also at higher risk of getting robbed or worse.
So, our decent prisons should be for norwegians, excluding holliday wannabees, seems like that would be fair?
Thea dont have bowling in the prisen but the POLICE bring them to bowling grocery
About 9$ for 1 gallon of fuel
If it's snowing and windy and you don't close the car. Do you have a big problem.
Its nit a lie that someone did put aples in a bag and put it on the fence for you to puc. It was a family that had to many and didnt wantet to throw it in the garbage.
