Thank you for following me on this journey!
Hey, diego, is it okay if you can talk about the pervadasource rex Just wondering if you've ever heard about it.
W
You’re so informative on this obscure piece of a pilot. Thanks so much
Gotta find em all.
Should ask someone at BBC if you can upload the pilot episode so that they will get any potential money that might be gained from its monetization, for the sake of preservation of media.
After all these years, finally we’ve found them all
It's finally able to be watched
The eight wonder of world has been founded and explained same as Dinoraul's dinosaur models
@@Morrison-saber-toothlol
Yes
@@chadgorosaurus4898found you
What I find funny is how in-scale the Liopleurodon seems to be here.
Yup. Ironically the liopleurodon is appear in correct size
Never underestimate lost media people. They can keep a flame burning for more than a decade and unlike most of us internet people, they're not afraid of emails and telephone calls
The most accurate looking thing in the pilot are the pterosaurs, which is odd. The Eustreptospondylus and Cetiosaurus look like repostured 1950s dinosaur models.
Fr
Maybe this is the reason why this episode never got aired
The cetiosaurus look like snakes more than anything which makes me appreciate the final naturalistic movement WAY more
The more retro appearing Eustreptospondylus and cetiosaurus gives an almost ominous feeling idk why.
@@theotheseaeagle They feel like they belong in a retro documentary made in the 80s
This is incredible news! Hopefully BBC decides to share all of the pilot footage so we can see how this wonderful franchise started. Kudos to Wilks for sharing this historical piece of media to you.
Ye it is sad that they didn't published it.
they wont
@@rendersaurus2 Someone leaked it, lmao.
where@@SpinoDragonProductions
Crazy how this all managed to work out!
This is some real history right here!
now we needa find the marven cut of walking with cavemen haha
THIS
I’ll be damned, you’ve made a real impact on the history of paleo-media. Well done, proud of you!
Now one lost Walking with cut has been found, now to focus on the other major lost Walking with media, the lost season of Preshistoric Planet (The walking with beasts recut)
Regardless I’m glad a full version of the Pilot was found, it was a cool piece of Walking with History to see finally in full.
What is the lost season of Prehistoric planet? There was a recut?
@@NickPaz174Not that Prehistoric Planet. That same exact name was used for a recut of Walking with Dinosaurs that was released in the 2000s. Considering Planet Dinosaur and Dinosaur Planet in the mix as well, its a shame people aren't more creative naming these shows.
Ok that is awesome that you got to personally see the pilot that made so many people's childhood. Telling you these are only strides you'll find on this channel
Glory to Electric Boogaloo for going above and beyond!
I hope this is made publicly available. It would be nice to see where it all started. As WWD was the giant's shoulders upon which Prehistoric Planet was built, this pilot/demonstrator is where WWD began.
Finally, the trilogy is complete
This is legendary, they even made the Liopleurodon the right size. What I love from WWD compared to Prehistoric Planet is how the episodes are structured, in WWD you follow the story of a dinosaur from start to finish, while in Prehistoric Planet has small sections of unrelated events, this is the reason why I find WWD a better show to rewatch, you get hooked to it because it has progression not only in the episode, but also because each episode is set in a different geologic period and you could see the changes in the enviroment from one period to the other at the start of each episode, so whole show has this sense of progression.
I admit this is definitely out of nowhere, but I will say at least it's good news that it's been found(Though unreleased due to copyrights from BBC, like the unreleased pilot from the cancelled Jurassic Park animated series)
Woo! Sucks that you can’t show it in full, but regardless, it’s *great* that we have it now
We finally found it. Now we can see the pilot in its entirety.
Holy shit i remember that liopleurodon scene, must have Seen this as a kid
*_Congrats_* to your buddy and Andrew Wilks for searching for this, finding it, and at long last shedding some _much_ needed light on this (👏)!
This proves that with enough determination you can achieve the impossible.Good job!
Sadly the world lost Mike Milne, who passed away recently. I worked under him at Framestore in the late 90's.
I was in the very first meeting with Tim Haines. 'Could we make a docu series about dinosaurs?'
Mike and I worked nights and weekends to get the pitch done.
I created, modelled, textured, rigged, animated and lit the pterosaurs for this demo/proof of concept.
Mike recognised patterns within Jurassic Park. Mostly creatures off in the distance, looping their animation. And realised this looped nature could be capitalised to make hours, not minutes.
We talked about rendering cycles on cards, to repeat to create packs. All the tricks to bring it to screen.
He was a legend, will be sorely missed. And if there was ever a tine to release the full pitch. It would be now.
Yay! a Pilot of my favorite dinosaur documentary found! Congratulations to Andrew Wilks! 🎉
Man it doesn’t matter how the graphics look or anything like you said, it’s part of something that is a cherished piece of my “childhood” I was like 14 but still, WWD is sooo important to me. I’m happy that you got to see it my dude! As it’s clear that you feel as I do about it!😅‼️👍
I am glad Wilks made an effort to find us the pilot
Maybe the real Walking With Dinosaurs pilot was the friends we made along the way.
Really hope we get to see the full pilot one day. Sounds simple enough but any new piece of Walking With media is always amazing. Especially since shows heavily inspired by it like Prehistoric Planet and Life on Our Planet.
As for other Walking With lost media, have you ever heard about the show Prehistoric Planet from 2002. It was sliced up edits of Walking With episodes with new narration and animations. And was very obviously intended for children. I’m not sure if it’s lost but I’m pretty sure it never got any DVD release so it might be.
Excellent video as always!
Good to know it survives out there in some way. Would be nice for BBC to officially release it to the public though.
By the way, the model shown at 10:03 is the Invicta plesiosaur, a classic figure.
This is so cool. Also does anyone know where to find the US version of this series? I'm very curious what Avery Brooks narration is like
It’s bad. It’s so so bad. It’s not worth it.
great video! Ive always been fascinated with WWD's production history, and I'm glad to see the pilot was found!
what a good last-minute birthday gift
Happy birthday! 🎂
An incredible find! I’ve got some extra info about the pilot - you can see one of the animatronics made for it on display!
The Oxford natural history museum has a lot of leftover ‘Walking With’ props on display in their fossil gallery, one of which is stated to be a Liopleurodon head. However, it always struck me that it looked nothing like the one from the actual program. However, it looks IDENTICAL to the one in this pilot, down to the colouration!
Doesn’t add anything to the story really, but if any folks are interested at looking at a piece of this puzzle up close, it’s there!
What a specific time for the episode to take place during.
Man who knew this one little pilot will bring us the greatest dinosaur documentary ever made.
The CGI looks good, especially for its time.
This "behind the scenes" - investigation from you is awesome. It really helps me to understand, how they made WWD in detail. I want to create a new dinosaur-documentary, planning it for years now without a team and investors. I am still in pre pre preproduction and such informations help me to come closer to my final goal. So, I thank you and all the others involved very much.
Release the Haines cut!
Hell yes!
I've been hoping for WWD to be released on blu ray, could be a good bonus feature. Kindof hoping someone without your scruples leaks it anyway but oh well. Congrats on finding it!
i looked at this videos title and thumbnail like
"no fucking way"
10:57 Hopefully but remember this is the same company that burned thousands of old series copies to the point even Doctor Who has lost episodes.
Maybe do a video on the Age of Reptiles painting? and if that iterests you and the viewers, maybe a follow-up on the Age of Mammals?
Let's goooo.
We can finally see it.
For over 24 years, we have found it. The Acrocanthosaurus is in this original pilot. Though, he didn't make the cut, but it will appear in Life On Our Planet.
Even if i wasn't born when WWD was released, im glad it was finally found.
My God. An uncovering of lost treasure! This is remarkable!
Also, thank you for including the name of the final background song, I've been trying to find it for ages and it's been driving me crazy!
It sucks really that we never seen it before until now
A fine addition to my collection
I’d like to mention that I think this your best thumbnail yet
Now we are walking!
The Cetiosaurus feeding scene was also included in the original ‘Making of WWD’
4 minutes 40 into a 12 minute episode: "So, before we get started..."
Even back then they obviously knew that Cruel Seas was going to be a banger. Obviously important to put their best foot forward to get the funding they’d need to bring this to the airwaves.
Actually prefer this Liopleurodon design over the actual WWD one despite it being clearly very WiP
Holy cow. This is so cool that you sparked this search. Go electric boogaloo!!!
I legit screamed when I saw this in my feed
Maybe this has been previously answered in the last video, but who was the narrator for the Pilot?
In the series proper it was Sir Kenneth Bragnah, but it would make sense if it was someone else.
This was nothing short but incredible, ove your videos btw
A huge W for the Dinosaur Community!
Diego you never fail to surprise us
I do hope you will at least share it with that discord member who did all that leg work
Video starts here 5:45
I’m happy you found it!😁🦖🦕
I can't believe it, great job! :D
This is still lost media to everyone else because you've decided to not share it. So much for archival.
Next someone will make the Avery Brooks-narrated Discovery dub of WWD more readily available.
Always wondered what happened to that show 🦕
He's not even going to tell us how to watch this lost episode for ourselves? He's just going to hog it for himself?
You really, REALLY need to get on the BBC's case and persuade them to release the pilot episode.
"I got evidence (of aliens or what ever) but legaly I'm not allowed to show it" Such a classic.
I hate copyright laws. I understand why they exist but it doesn't change the fact that I hate them.
Someone watched Dino Diego and was filled with DETERMINATION
Thanks for sharing!!
I wish I could see the full pilot!
LET THE PLEBS WATCH IT
Very cool. This is history
Not to be a stick in the mud, but this doesn’t count as the trilogy being complete it’s just now shrouded in mystery. If only a handful of people can witness this pilot then it makes no sense to even say it’s complete without everybody witnessing it. Understandable that if you do release it you’d find yourself in a copyright strike or possibly worse. My point is that this trilogy is still just a mystery
Simply Amazing! :)
Great video! Can you upload the entire "pilot" for everyone to see if it's fine?
Skiing With Dinosaurs
The devil works hard, but lost media hunters work harder. They pounce on something the minute you announce it exists.
i know your afraid of copyright strikes and all (for valid reason. even just one has the possibility to knock down one's whole career on this site) but... doesnt it feel like a slap in the face to the paleo community at large to finally have this important piece of lost media in public hands... only to only have small samples and images to work with because someone doesnt want to share the full thing?
theres full 3-minute clips of all the WWD episodes that add up into the whole. full series. if BBC really cared about their property. i feel like those would have been smitten by now... not saying you _need_ to release the full footage. just saying this feels atleast a little stupid.
"I'm for the preservation of art"
And then not uploading this lost art somewhere to be publicly archived forever with a link?
Definitely some lost respect
definitely agree
To be fair, the BBC technically owns the footage and could get litigious over publication without permission...
For the preservation of art, unless it might be inconvenient.
I'm Electric Boogaloo, the guy Diego mentioned in this video. We're doing what we can to get this publicly released. In the last few hours I've been trying to get into contact with people who can point us in the right direction. We don't want anybody getting into legal trouble since this _is_ private material, but we also want people to see this thing in full.
@@fearodactyl2886 got it.
Don’t matter lost or not the plot ep is better then wwd movie adaptation
So, does this mean the pilot will remain lost media?
Lost media can be found by some sources but this is just a mystery until some mad man actually releases it
This reminds me of that time a Redditor found the StarCraft 1 source code and sent it back to Blizzard for a bunch of Overwatch branded junk instead of leaking it because he was scared lmao
Disappointed you've decided to not share it given there are other ways you could do so whilst avoiding legal issues rather than just uploading it directly to your channel, such as contributing the footage anonymously to the internet archive. I feel like a lot of people with the "it's not my decision" take on lost media care more about owning or having seen something others aren't able to than it is about the good of doing it. By finding and deliberately not sharing lost media you're actively harming the effort to archive media for the sake of your own ego. Media companies often do not care about things like pilots and test reels that were never made publicly available and are often so unconcerned about it that it's the reason they become lost media in the first place. Given the BBC's horrendous track record for media that was publicly available, I think it is for the better that it is archived somewhere public, especially since semi-found media can very quickly become lost again, don't let a find slip through everyone's fingers because you want to feel special.
The most self entitled comment on this video, you definitely crave attention; he isn't being egotistical. He is just protecting his channel, maybe even his main source of income; please grow up.
Pilot has been uploaded on the youtube channel Ben Simulator
The BBC doesn’t seem to be interested in releasing this even if they do have it. Maybe on the off chance they see how well prehistoric planet has done they’ll decide to rerelease WWD and include it as bonus material. I understand why you don’t want to release it, but I think it’s highly irresponsible of you to keep it to yourself. Media is lost all the time simply because people forget about owning it or die with it in their possession. If anything, release it an anonymously and let the internet take care of it.
Finally, early.
I love this video!
You can upload this on Internet Archive?
OH MY GOD! YES!
Can we see the pilot was well?
How exciting!
hmmm... i wonder what the dinoverse video would be like?
Now the pilot is in the Internet Archive
Amazing!
I can now die a happy man
wait the liupluradon atatcking the spondylus kinda remind me of the one we see in giant of the skies briefly. think they used it for that?
They definitely had underwater background stock footage, but the pliosaur in Giant of the Skies is the final model of the Liopleurodon in the show but literally with the model's texture maps turned off into a solid black.
Well, if it's been found, then where is it?
We need to spam BBC e-mail asking for this 😛
I think you should reach out to BBC to see if you can release this entire thing into public knowledge
Already did that. No response. Its redundant now, since the episode was apparently leaked about a month ago anyways. I'm sure if you look hard enough, you'll find it somewhere
