Many had a problem of learning of the news, because Superman wasn't supposed to die. The only problem was that it wasn't Kryptonite that killed Superman but a bullet from a gun. Certainly Lex Luthor wasn't involved.

I was born in the 60s and while in syndication i used to get to get up and watch it Sunday mornings at 6am.LOVE this show AND RIP Superman (George Reeves)
When I was a child, I watched every episoid of "SUPERMAN". And finding out one day, that he died. Was unfathomable to me and my far from fully development mind could fathom. Though he's been replaced in various movie's since. There was and still is only one "SUPERMAN". And to me, and for the rest of my life, will always be the one.
In the early 60's I grew up watching Superman. He brought both characters to life. That's the roles of Superman and Clark Kent. Just like the deaths of JFK, Marilyn Monroe, Jim Morrison, and Bruce Lee we'll never know the truth about George Reeves death. It was spectacular the way Superman took off running and jumped in the air in order to fly. He certainly looks like the true man of steel. He paved the way for other actors to play the roles of other Superheroes whether DC or Marvel.
We can easily guess about the death of John Kennedy. He made enemies of the Mafia, communists, the oil billionaires and the CIA. If somebody asks me how I know that the Central Intelligence Agency had anything to do with John's murder, I simply tell them it's because the CIA still exists.
I always got a giggle out of my Daddy's new patients. They go to get their eyes examined by the doc and low and behold, the doc could be George Reeve's twin brother (original hair color, not red LOL). They were both about the same age, except we were Indiana to Reeve's Iowa. My daddy died in 1974, so I only had 17 years with him. I just looked at the one pic I have of him recently, taken during ww2, then today I came across this video. Makes me cry, I miss him so. Wish they could have met during their short lifetimes ...
I remember watching Superman as a kid on a small black and white TV. I couldn’t wait for next episode. I remember asking my father what his suit size was so I could get him his own Superman suit.Truth justice and the American way how true we need that today.

@@tomtransport Actually, that's not correct. There is something called lucid dreaming and Dreamwalking. There's all kinds of info on it out there. However he'll always be remembered for this role which will keep his memory alive even 64 years after his demise. Yes, I believe he may have met with foul play.

Rumors were that he was high on something n thinking that he was superman n jumped out of a window. Thank You for clearing that up Rip George Reeves ... 😪
Producers get these issues all wrong. To reject an actor because they are universally popular in one role is a testament to their skill as an actor; not a reason to say they shouldn't take on any other character. Elizabeth Taylor, for instance, was tremendously popular in 'Cleopatra' yet no one said she couldn't do, '...Virginia Woolf' because she was so good as Cleopatra. It doesn't make any sense. It just proves that good actors have a wide range of skills. This all added to the depressing story of a man totally trapped by 'type, or character-casting'. George was not an old man; he had possibly decades of successful acting, in other parts, in front of him but 'Superman'; and crazy producers, drove him into increased alcohol intake and deep depression. I believe Mr Reeves took his own life at a weak, intoxicated moment where he must have been convinced that that his entire career was over. When acting is all you can do that must be a crushing realisation. Jack Larson, (Jimmy Olsen in 'Superman') said, several years ago, he decided to walk away from acting because he didn't want to end up in the same place that George did. A Casting Director hired Jack for a film by a big time Hollywood producer. When that producer discovered Jack Larson had been hired, he had a face-to face with Jack and told him he just couldn't be in his movie because, "You are Jimmy Olsen...". By the way, the terrible 'robot narration' in this video is almost as tragic as Reeves's death; it's the worst fake voice-over I've ever heard. The memory of George Reeves deserved much better treatment than that. Also, after reading the comments on this video, I'm convinced that so many people, with ordinary Anglo-Saxon names, which indicate English is their first language; have no clue how to write understandable sentences and have the spelling skills of young children. This, I've noticed, is widespread over RUclips and social media. It makes one wonder if the teaching of correct English has suddenly ceased to exist. In any case, George Reeves, despite international popularity, had a terrible professional career and I've always felt extremely sorry for a good man and a great actor who suffered terribly through absolutely no fault of his own. RIP George; you were way too good for early American TV which used up actors and spit them out. Bill H. (Retired film and TV critic/reviewer).
Faster than a speeding bullet. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Strange visitor from another planet who came to earth with powers and abilities
Yes. At the inception of Superman, he could not fly. That's why "leap tall buildings" was used, and it stuck even after flying became a power. But when introduced in the comics in 1938, he could only leap - an eighth of a mile. It wasn't until the Fleisher Studios short film that he could fly because that was easier for them to portray than leaping.
Good info. But I suggest you find a better robot voice - or at least try to correct the glaring cadence errors. "Pasadena............................California."
Why, when talking about Toni Manax, was there a photo of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez? It was such a tragic end for George. He always has such a lovely smile.
George was killed...by his lifestyle. The casting couch. The drinking. The open relationships. Studio cover ups in concert with the police and the coroner. But he was movie star material and a product of the times . You could tell in the first and second seasons with the adult film noir themes.
You Need to Get your Facts right, along with getting rid of the Robot Narration. The Night of the party/shooting began on JUNE 15th/16th, 1959 NOT JULY, like is mentioned in the video. The party started before Midnight on June 15th and then the shooting and George's death was ruled in early morning aprox. 2 a.m. on the June 16th, 1959. Also video Mispronounces George Reeves name from his adopted father, it's was George Bessolo NOT Basolo. Very Poor Production here.
I remember seeing the newspaper saying he died from a gunshot wound with a picture of him in costume,I thought to myself was it a kryptonite bullit that killed him as I thought he was real
I watched "Superman" from its pilot episode in 1952 at age 6 & was immediately 'hooked'! George Reeves was a professional actor, who I believe, played to both children & adults equally! Unfortunately, his Superman character overshadowed his ability to get other parts & consumed the last vestiges of his youth! Aging fast, gaining weight, with thinning , graying hair, he may have sought a fast way out of his downward spiral, by taking his own life! R.I.P.!
GEORGE REEVES WAS SUCH A WONDERFUL PERSON. HE HAD ONE OF THE KINDEST FACES I HAVE EVER SEEN ON A MAN. I REFUSE TO BELIEVE HE KILLED HIMSELF. REST IN PEACE GEORGE.
There are so many factors that contribute to a person’s self image. If it was a suicide, one can only wonder what mixture of emotions created such volatility in Reeves that he would take his own life. Ostensibly, he was on the path to greater fame with Superman, but if he had begun to privately detest the role because of the entrapment, is it possible that greater Superman fame meant a further descent into a private hell? I was just 4 years old when he died, and I wasn’t aware of the crime drama so much, but I loved watching the show. Oh yeah. Even as a very young kid I watched it. My dad never missed an episode, and I can remember him saying how sad he was that George Reeves was gone.
I think he was at about 5,000 a week not bad for the times . Also he was going to direct a few of the episodes in the upcoming season . So with all that going for him, suicide???
One of the Adventures of Superman episodes I still remember was when Superman took 2 or 3 evil crooks to the top of a tall snowcapped mountain peak and left them there to meet their fate. Their only way out was to climb down, but it was too steep. They remained at the top, horrified and screaming in fear that they were going to die. I don't remember much else about the episode. I was pretty young at the time.
@@timothykozlowski2945 I don't remember the details. Too long ago. I can only remember them being dropped off on top of the mountain and freaking out. Did they all try to climb down?
@@timothykozlowski2945 Thanks for the refresher. I just remembered how terrifying it would be to be stuck on top of mountain like that. Now that you mention it, I do seem to recall them falling as they tried to climb down. Gotta wonder why Superman would leave his costume in the closet. Seems to me he's always wearing it under his Clark Kent suit. Wouldn't help to wash it with the laundry. It's indestructible. Good thing he wears his underwear on the outside of his suit. 👍
Let me get this straight...there's a bunch of people at the house, he had been asleep upstairs, wakes up, goes downstairs and tells the people there to quiet down before heading back upstairs, and the gf just HAPPENS to coincidentally remark "oh, he'll probably go shoot himself now"........ ok sure.
He was drunk and shot himself on the spur of the moment to piss off his wife. Not murder. The wife was downstairs with the guests when the shot went off.
To me he was calling off the wedding at the restaurant that started a fight and goes home and he goes upstairs to go to sleep and she let people in the house that were making noise that led to a bigger fight that some how all of the people were sticking up for each other and they made up everything they played a part in his murder and used the superman tv show has a way out of it
The last photos while he was alive he looks puffy and pre mature aging..signs of heavy alcohol consumption. I think ex Toni was extremly jealous and her husband wanting to please her had Reeves killed. Strange love triangle indeed !
Sad story. Superman was my favorite show as a child. I'm wondering why you show a photo of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz and their 2 kids in the middle of this video?
Well there was a Superman before him and as a teen I heard they both died sort of like that where one was murdered or one commented suicide. It was said he jumped out of the window thinking he was Superman for real. All of the actors died weird deaths. From all of our generations. You would never think one would ride a horse one day and wound up helpless after being thrown off it. They all seemed so invincible in our eyes. They played very convincing roles of actually being a best Super Men Ever. I enjoyed all generations of them. I also loved Ultra Man which meant the same thing in another language. That made me enjoy the Power Rangers. I still watch any of them. They never get old. It most definitely was an all American program. How many people or their sons didn't think they were Super man or at least thought one day they could fly? All you needed was a roof a matress, room to run with imagination and blanket cape. 😂😮😊❤ 2024
If his actual dad had not died, he may have been a farmer and not famous but lived a long hard life like many did during WWII in his home state, if his mom had not had to move to California.

My feeling is George like several others back in those days didn't die of suicide he had everything going for him.
It was good that the superman made him a star better than nothing at all
Actors never seem to have a normal life.
@@anthonycaruso8443 Very perceptive Anthony, few survive the pressures placed on them as to how they should live their lives.
Does anybody know of an episode where Lois touches his S
His life was not normal after Superman
Faster than a speeding bullet. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Strange visitor from another planet who came to earth with powers and abilities
...far beyond those of mortal men...
It's a plane✈! it's a bird 🐦! it's a train 🚉 !No it's!SURPERMAN 😮
Yes. At the inception of Superman, he could not fly. That's why "leap tall buildings" was used, and it stuck even after flying became a power. But when introduced in the comics in 1938, he could only leap - an eighth of a mile. It wasn't until the Fleisher Studios short film that he could fly because that was easier for them to portray than leaping.
yeah he was my superman! RIP
Good info. But I suggest you find a better robot voice - or at least try to correct the glaring cadence errors. "Pasadena............................California."
Notice on the S insignia of the Superman costume, that it was Frayed on the edges...
Why, when talking about Toni Manax, was there a photo of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez? It was such a tragic end for George. He always has such a lovely smile.
Never seen a Superman show with him only heard of him.
A number of videos posted on here contain mistakes.
I remember seeing the newspaper saying he died from a gunshot wound with a picture of him in costume,I thought to myself was it a kryptonite bullit that killed him as I thought he was real
He always seemed remote from the other actors on Superman. One wanted more Superman and less Clark Kent.
Eddie Mannix!! @6:10 is Desi Arnaz. Biggest clue is Lucille Ball to his right, my friend.
I was gonna say the same thing 🙄
@@moonchildluvsbobcrane me too
I watched "Superman" from its pilot episode in 1952 at age 6 & was immediately 'hooked'! George Reeves was
a professional actor, who I believe, played to both children & adults equally! Unfortunately, his Superman character
overshadowed his ability to get other parts & consumed the last vestiges of his youth! Aging fast, gaining weight,
with thinning , graying hair, he may have sought a fast way out of his downward spiral, by taking his own life! R.I.P.!
He was a good looking man, shame he passed away young.
It would be nice if the photos corresponded with the narrative. The visual presentation is just a garage sale of disjointed images.
Is that George in the casket shot in the thumbnail?
Why is there a picture of Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz with their children outside an airplane in this? They were never mentioned in the narration.
He was murdered 😢 plain and simple
Amen!!!
I would and will always watch the original Superman. I will never believe he shot himself. It was murder
Definitely
6:23 Ummm … isn’t that Ben Affleck as George Reeves in the picture _Hollywoodland?_
GEORGE REEVES WAS SUCH A WONDERFUL PERSON. HE HAD ONE OF THE KINDEST FACES I HAVE EVER SEEN ON A MAN. I REFUSE TO BELIEVE HE KILLED HIMSELF. REST IN PEACE GEORGE.
Why do you show Desi Arnaz when you're talking about Eddie Manning?
There are so many factors that contribute to a person’s self image. If it was a suicide, one can only wonder what mixture of emotions created such volatility in Reeves that he would take his own life. Ostensibly, he was on the path to greater fame with Superman, but if he had begun to privately detest the role because of the entrapment, is it possible that greater Superman fame meant a further descent into a private hell? I was just 4 years old when he died, and I wasn’t aware of the crime drama so much, but I loved watching the show. Oh yeah. Even as a very young kid I watched it. My dad never missed an episode, and I can remember him saying how sad he was that George Reeves was gone.
the one and only Superman
I never understood why nobody ever told Superman that underwear goes on first not last.😆😆😆
Lmbo!!
😀😃😄😁😆😅🤣😂🙂🙃😉😊😗☺️😚😙🥲😋😛😜🤪😝🤗🤭🤫🤔
Maybe that was his way of assuring they'd stay clean
They didn't want his Super Bulge to show through his Leotard.
@@bhodili-3396
Super bulge? LMBO!
We all know Lois was really fantasizing about some super pneumatic action!
I don’t believe he committed suicide imho.besides he was offered to play Superman for at least a another year or two with very good money contract etc
He held his age pretty well and could still have managed another three years at it. f more money had been put into them, they might have been awesome.
He was . My favorite Superman of all time and the best actor to play Superman RIP George Reeves you were the best
I don't think he commited suicide either but he was typecast as Superman. This has always given credence to the suicide theory.
@@kevinmadden1645 YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!😮
I think he was at about 5,000 a week not bad for the times . Also he was going to direct a few of the episodes in the upcoming season . So with all that going for him, suicide???
I enjoyed his acting as Superman sad he was murdered, so young Plus his murderer got away with it so sad.
Well you're going to fall if you try to climb down a mountain wearing 4 inch heels like the lady was.
@@timothykozlowski2945 I don't remember the details. Too long ago. I can only remember them being dropped off on top of the mountain and freaking out. Did they all try to climb down?
@@NightBazaar Yes, she slipped and they both fell.
@@NightBazaar That's the episode when the Superman costume was stolen from Clark Kent's closet.
use to watch Superman on the tube on either Saturday Sunday morning afternoon in the mid to late 70's.
"The Great Lover" ....Bob Hope..Rhonda Fleming.Roland Young George Reeves..Jim Backus..costumes by Edith Head. Good movie.
This video contains so many errors, and the narrator is a computer that mispronounced names.
🤖
A blooper. Apparently our host can't tell the difference between Reeves and Desi Arnez.
Unbelievable
Let me get this straight...there's a bunch of people at the house, he had been asleep upstairs, wakes up, goes downstairs and tells the people there to quiet down before heading back upstairs, and the gf just HAPPENS to coincidentally remark "oh, he'll probably go shoot himself now"........ ok sure.
He was drunk and shot himself on the spur of the moment to piss off his wife.
Not murder. The wife was downstairs with the guests when the shot went off.
To me he was calling off the wedding at the restaurant that started a fight and goes home and he goes upstairs to go to sleep and she let people in the house that were making noise that led to a bigger fight that some how all of the people were sticking up for each other and they made up everything they played a part in his murder and used the superman tv show has a way out of it
George Reeves, Christopher Reeve. The parallel is uncanny!
Was going to watch this, but computer narration made me turn it off.
I remember watching Superman ... made a huge impression on my boyhood.
I remember. I was 9 the day Superman died.
The last photos while he was alive he looks puffy and pre mature aging..signs of heavy alcohol consumption. I think ex Toni was extremly jealous and her husband wanting to please her had Reeves killed. Strange love triangle indeed !
That photo of "Eddie Mannix" when you talk about his Japanese girlfriend is a picture of Desi Arnaz.
Sad story. Superman was my favorite show as a child. I'm wondering why you show a photo of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz and their 2 kids in the middle of this video?
That was from an episode of I Love Lucy where Superman made an appearance.
@@bhodili-3396 That makes sense. Thank you!
Why on earth did I even click on this clip…very depressing..RIP if that’s even possible after suicide?
The superman role has been very cursed to men named Reeve(s). If anyone offers it to Keanu, he should just say no.
Thankfully Keanu doesn't have the build for the role, though he can bulk up like what Christopher did...
Suppose they made him an offer he can't refuse?
Typecasting propels you into eternal stardom and perpetual unemployment at the same time.
YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!😊
At 6:09 why we looking at Lucy and Desi Arnez and their children. DONT YOU PROFF BEFORE YOU RELEASE?
Yes I'm sure they PROOF read as much as possible before releasing.
Sounds like his fiancé, Leonora, had something to do with it.
Producers were stupid not to be able to cast George Reeves in other projects.
George stared in many episodes of "Suspense" when it came to television from radio, after 20 years there.
Why did they show a picture of Desi and Lucy when he talked about Maning or the mob man?
Goerge Reeves appeared in an episode of I Love Lucy.
Why are you using Lucile Ball and Desi Arnaz family pic to talk about Mannix? Get it straight and don't fake it if you don't know.
