Nah, Alchemy is manipulating and altering things at an atomic level, it can effect basically anything.
The problem was that Ed assumed what he was transmuting was iron, so what he tried to do didn't happen. You need to know what it is you're effecting and exactly how you're effecting it, or else nothing happens.
Exactly. Just like the first time Scar tried to destroy Ed's arm but it failed because he thought it would be flesh.
Affect = Impact or influence. Eg, _Alchemy affects matter at an atomic level._
Effect = Result or outcome. Eg, _The effects of the Ishvalan war can still be felt among Amestrians today._
For the Scar vs Kimblee fight, in the manga (and the subbed version), Kimblee brought up the fact that Scar's older brother was bleeding profusely from a wound in his lower left stomach and mockingly said how he could tell he was in extreme agony. In response, Scar took a broken pipe, threw it and impaled Kimblee in the same spot and then asked "The lower left stomach...right?" It was so savage! xD

Take note that Ed and Al came to Briggs the complete wrong way. They didn't call ahead from Northern Command to let Briggs know they would be showing up. Ed just walked onto their territory, expecting to be let in the front door. The Briggs fortress soldiers are always on mega alert because they are sitting on the border of a very huge and very hostile nation. It wasn't smart for Ed to not phone first.
SnowyWolborg yeah when you're on a covert mission and the conspiracy goes all the way to the top, and you're trying to get somewhere without Central command knowing and you don't know who you can trust, the best move is to tell northern command and call ahead. Use your head man
Derek Furst I think you misinterpreted OP's intent. OP most likely knows about the trust issue. However, it doesn't change the fact that the act of not notifying them was also not smart.
Derek Furst Ed and Al didn't need to tell Briggs or Northern Command *why* they're going to the fort. They could have just as easily made up a lie. Which is what they do when they think Sloth is there to check on them. Just running onto military land that they aren't familiar with in weather they aren't accustomed to was a dumb idea no matter how you look at it.
This is a situation where every option is wrong, but at least calling would make sure they don't die immediately.
Both alkahestry and alchemy were taboo to the Ishvalans. However, Scar's brother thought learning about them could be beneficial to his people, especially as tensions were rising with the alchemy-using Amestrians. During his research, he started to realize certain things about both disciplines that led him to theorize ways to combine them.
Even with his clapping alchemy, Ed *still* needs to mentally think of the alchemical equation for the thing he's going to transmute.
Basically, imagine that he can achieve the same result other alchemists get by "imagining" the transmutation circle instead of literally drawing it...
Since automail in the south is *always* made of steel, he immediately visualized a transmutation circle for steel... And since what he was trying to transmute was actually titanium, it did jackshit. If he had known it was titanium from the beginning, that'd be a long gone piece of automail.
Well it's not actually titanium. It's a mix of chromium, carbon fiber, and some other substances to reduce it's conductive abilities and insulate the user against the cold.

In episode 22 Scar's brother had tattoos on both arms and said, "My right arm deconstructs and my left arm reconstructs." Later on when Scar was bleeding out it was his right arm that was missing so the deconstructing arm is the one that Scar's brother gave him.
So Scar fighting with deconstruction is partly because of his religious beliefs and partly because that's the only side of Alchemy he understands.

Ah yes! Olivier Mira Armstrong! One of the biggest things FMAB has on the original- no Fullmetal story is complete without her!
Tons of thing FMAB has over the first anime due to being a true adaptation of the manga. Ling and all the Xingese characters. Things like Lust vs Mustang or Mustang vs Envy. And then all the other great action scenes as compared to the first anime where I can barely recall much of the action from it. Much of the characters are fleshed out much much better. Like Hawkeye barely has any sort of character development in the first anime as compared to Brotherhood and the manga. Bradley is so much better in Brotherhood. And then the ending to the first anime was just baffling in my mind. Like for one it needed a movie just to actually end it and was just so weird that Ed goes to Nazi Germany. The Mustang arc makes little to no sense with the anime ending with him and Hawkeye seeming fine and that they will move forward together. Yet when we first see him in the film he's completely given up on everything and is just in some secluded outpost by himself. And then pretty sure it just ends with Ed and Al living in the other world.
Remember what Kimblee said to Hawkeye: Never forget the people you kill. Because no matter how much time passes, they will never forget you.
He remembers all the thousands he killed. And he gives no fucks.

I was so shook when Kimblee actually remembered Scar and his family. It kinda made me respect him. Yeah, he's super crazy and what not, but he isn't stupid and he doesn't kill blindly. He meant what he said to Hawkeye. He doesn't turn away from death, he sees what he does.

Basically yes, Scar's arm only performs destruction, or as father put it Decomposition, he is basically scattering atoms of what he touches to various degrees, when he killed people he burst their blood vessels but he can also decapitate if he wished, like he did to Ed, Gluttony and that thug guy's arms
Scar's brother researched Alchemy and Alkahestry, he had some plan for the tattooed arms before he died, Scar is hoping that the two can decode his notes to discover what that is. His arms were fusions of both, more using Alkahestry in the manner of Alchemy, but it wasn't Alchemy Arm/Alkahestry Arm, it was Construction/Deconstruction Arms
It is against his beliefs, he believes in Ishvala, which is the Ishvalan Monotheist God

This show does that a lot & pretty well,I love it.
The AMV Sōzō Yeah. It does strong women not at the expense of character. And it's never to the detriment of everyone around them.
That's where a lot of stories fuck up.
She’s just a hyper-masculine female though, I like Winry better.
Winry is strong in the typical anime way, she doesn't show much of outside of being pissed at certain moments. Armstrong has proven time and time again to be an intellectual soldier that doesn't truly kneel to anyone, keep her own soldiers together and hold her own in a terrible situation. Hawkeye, May, Lan Fan, Izumi, and even Paninya have been able to handle themselves in a fight at the very least, but Armstrong has done quite a lot more than handle herself in a fight once in a while.
@Ambander She's obsessed with duty. She's obsessed with strength. Frankly, she's exactly the kind of person who would successfully work her way up to a two-star general in a male-dominated 19th century military structure (Amestris isn't like actively mysoginistic but it's still the early 1900s by the time the show starts). And acting like she doesn't care about anyone or anything besides doing her job is exactly how she got put in charge of Briggs, a post known for being obsessed with the concept of "survival of the fittest."
She's not badly written, because other characters explicitly notice the fact that those are also flaws. And the narrative never pretends that she's what the other female characters should strive to be. She's presented as distinctly off the rails, but not quite off the reservation.
@Ambander seems like you're the one projecting. Re-watch the show, half of what you said isn't even true.
The fight between Scar and Kimblee was SICK
Yeah, Suraj! I love Ballers. Last season, the former wall commander actually met with the mother of fire breathing flying lizards. Thank R'hllor, such a good show.
I will say, Buccaneer's arm isn't made out of titanium (you will find out what it is made of next episode or maybe the one after that) but the reason the alchemy didn't work on his arm is because Ed assumed it was made out of iron and it isn't so his alchemy formula he imagined was specifically to change iron into something else. It's good to remember that the three steps to alchemy are 1.Understanding, 2.Deconstruction, and 3.Reconstruction. The first step was what messed up since Ed didn't have an understanding of what the arm was made of therefore he couldn't change it. Even though Alchemy is kind of treated like magic when used for fighting it is still very much a science with very specific limitations and this speaks volumes about why people are impressed by Ed and Al, not just because they are young and capable fighters but because they are genius level intellects able to comprehend the elemental compositions of thousands of different items and organisms on the fly.
