you put the needle between the first stitch and second stitch - yarn round - pull the loop through - put the loop on the right hand needle - cast on 1 - just keep going.

you do it when you finish stuffing it - run a thread round the neck and tighten it

You cast on different to me. I've never gone through the back to cast on.
