#1 REASON WHY I LEFT NORTH AMERICA FOR THAILAND AND SOUTH EAST ASIA $10 GROCERY CHALLENGE

- There are a ton of reasons why,,,, but this, this is one of the major ones
What will $10 buy you in your home country?
I was amazed at how far 10 Bucks will go here in Nanjing China!
Check back as I'll so a few more of these in the next couple weeks,,,,
Here is an example of how cheap it is in Thailand to eat out,,,,,
• COST OF LIVING IN THAI...
And here is how much it costs for a studio condo on Phuket Island...
• HOW TO SAVE MONEY AND ...
Dr. Mark that's why there are mostly a self check out line and many shoppers just steal them groceries by not scanning them. Worst way to shop. By the way don't forget 1 hour massage here in TX USA can cost over $100
Isn't that absolutely crazy what's going on in the states right now with people just walking in the stores filling up shopping carts and walking out I just can't understand how far society has fallen down......
I honestly cannot imagine what it would be like to live like that....
Massages in Canada are at least $120 an hour....
Yikes
Cheers 🥂
Brigitte L Jones. Here in an Australian supermarket you' d be paying around $15 for the chicken breasts, juice at least $5, milk $2, oranges $4, bulk eggs $9, a total of aud $35. So convert aud $35 to usd which is usd $22.85. More than double the price! If you got a few tropical fruits and various vegetables the cost could be 3 times as much in Australia after converting to usd.
Is it cheap Chinese chicken breasts that we are talking about?
That's crazy isn't it!
Sounds like the prices in Australia are about the same as Canada and the United States at the moment!!.
Thanks for taking the time Brigette to share your experiences there with us I really appreciate that
Cheers 🥂
Lol
Actually probably the highest quality chicken breast that you're probably going to find anywhere in the world are you sold right here in China you may not believe that because of the b******* propaganda that they stuck down your throat from Western media outlets.....
For 10 bucks, I can barely get the eggs here in Switzerland.
Isn't that absolutely crazy I'm talking to friends back in Canada and they're telling me the same thing that they can't even get the eggs for $10!!!!!
Seriously check out what I get next week I'm going to do one of these for about four consecutive weeks and show people how insane it is what I can buy here in China for $10!!!!.
Lol
@@whyhellotherewithdrmarksabean Where are you in China? Can you walk around with a camera like you do in your paradise island?
@@whyhellotherewithdrmarksabean Just talked to a friend from Canada today, said Canada was not doing well at all, inflation, unemployment, the works...
Hey mate yes I'll be posting videos this month about both Thailand and China...
I'm currently in Nanjing, beautiful city mate
Hopefully you'll find the videos interesting
Cheers
That Megan Fox line was great. Also I just saw Bob Cole passed away. He is undoubredly my fav. hockey announcer and prob my fav announcer for any sport, best way i could describe him was regal, loved his simple goal vall of "scores" and "oh baby", i grew up watching hockey night in canada as we got cbc in seattle, and you knew it was worth watching if he was calling it. RIP :(
Damn I just saw that bro
RIP COLESIE!!!!!!!
Great video Doctor. My brother and I here in Shanghai used we chat and alypay to buy things and we are able to spend near 120 cny a day for 4 meals breakfast lunch snacks and dinner . Here in China one eggs costs 2 cnt an omelette with 3 eggs 8 cny . In our hometown city Milan is the same as New York now a juice at the bar 4 dollar our Italian pizza 16 or 17 euro the margarita one the other more than 20 .
We are looking forward to meeting you in Shanghai 🎉🎉
It's absolutely insane I can't get over how crazy it is to eat in other parts of the world I mean I'm living here in Nanjing what you guys know is a first-tier city and I can eat so cheap it's crazy I mean I have the most incredible stuff in my fridge me being a guy who loves to go out to eat I'm eating at home most of the time because I have such a selection of variety available to me and it's not killing me it's not breaking the bank......
I watch foreigner joe and Thai girl Gifts channel also, they are in Italy and they went to lunch yesterday , it was $87.00 for the two of them ….. FOR LUNCH ( not even dinner ) … that would have been dinner for a week in Thailand !
Lol
Isn't that crazy!!!
I can tell you this much talking to friends and from what I learned the last time I was in Canada Canadian prices are not too far off of Italy......
If you want a home and family in Canada, UK, USA or Australia, you need over US$200 k a year or you will seriously struggle.
Because you think everyone needs 3 cars and 3000 sq feet for a house as well as a holiday in Hawaii or at least Mexico every year. 4- thousand dollar phones replaced every 2 years anyone?
OMG ROOFPIZZA WE AGREE ON SOMETHING!!!!!
LOL
Sadly because people are so wrapped up in standard of living instead of quality of life!!!!!!!
Thanks Mark for pertinent, interesting content.
In North Carolina USA, Mark's equivalent grocery items, including yellow potatoes, would cost ~$24, before 7% sales tax, at WalMart (cheapest grocery chain around most parts). 2x18 large eggs are ~$6, so $5 for 30. Chicken breasts are ~$2.70/lb vs $0.94/lb in Nanjing so nearly 3X as expensive here. Oranges are $5-7 for 5 lb bag depending on type/quality. In more affordable areas of USA food is perhaps 2-3X as costly as a major Chinese city. I believe there is greater cost disparity in housing, health care and automobiles/transportation between N America and SE Asia. Food cost is comparatively trivial - I spend more than twice as much on health insurance than food.
Booze is generally cheaper in USA than TH. A case of 24x12oz beers is ~$15-$19 before tax. I rarely buy beer but I'm always stunned when some Pataya/BKK/Phuket YTer is showing how cheap beer is at only 65 baht, which is 2-3X as costly as the 15-20 brands of beer sold at WalMart. Heineken, one of the most expensive, works out to only 48 baht at the current exchange rate in 12 fl oz bottles. Guinness Extra Stout (one of my favorites) is 65 baht per 11 oz bottle, sold only in the more costly 6-pack. I guess booze has to be cheap in USA with median home price of $400K, motor vehicles $60K, and median household income (2 or more people per year) $70K.
Thanks for sharing with us,,,,
Yes food is definitely 2-3x more expensive in the USA than here in China,,,, but it almost 3-4x more in Canada!!!
As for beer and booze being cheaper in the The States,,,, compared to Thailand and many other countries here in South East Asia,,,, you're 💯 correct,,,,,, but this video is in China and booze here is way WAY cheaper than in the US.....
As for housing,,,,, you cannot imagine the cost of a condo here....
In Shanghai is a Million+ foa a basic unit..... here in Nanjing it is less but still crazy expensive.....
There are lower priced cars for sure if you want to drive one,,,, that's up to you
I can tell you in my condo complex parking garage we have 4 Maclarens 7 Lambos 3 Ferraris several Rolls Royce Phantoms a couple drop top coupes not to mention 5 Mercedes SLRs.......
8 G63 Wagons..... G63 .....not the bargain basement G-Wagon.....
Perhaps 30 or 40 BMW M3s and M4s......
3 Aston Martins.....
Yeah.....
And health care here is super affordable.....
But ya can still go out and enjoy yourself at a top tier restaurant and club eat and have drinks for less than $100 for a couple.......
Wow, China, enjoy. Funny on a recent trip back to Australia i noticed that the Curtis Stone ads "feed your family for under $10 at coles" no longer on tv. Funny about that hey! Prices are out of control.
Thanks Donna
I absolutely love coming here to China it is quite possibly my second home....
Yeah it's funny how all of those really cool jingles and advertisements on how cheap it was to feed people are completely totally gone!!!!!
Lol
Cheers 🥂
Dr. Mark ….wow your in China…please do a video on the experience and cost of visa and do you use an app to communicate and so on….?
Hey Marc,
I'll be doing a bunch of different videos on my experiences here in China hopefully you will catch those....
Getting a Visa is actually relatively simple all you have to do is send your Visa away to a Visa company they will take care of everything for you there's different types of visas so it's really hard to talk about the cost of them I'm on an incredibly special Visa so I don't pay anything for mine....
I can speak basic Mandarin enough so that I can get by but I do use a translator which you will see in some upcoming videos...
Cheers mate 🍻
30 eggs at Tops is more like 145 baht and up ($3.90). I don't think it's fair to compare when we pay our employees the same in one hour what they pay them in a day.
Thats part of it, but if you are looking to retire over there its a huge plus.
Well first off brother this is not even in Thailand this is in China and I'm not going to guess what they're paying the workers I Know this much the workers are able to afford to live and have apartments have bikes go out and enjoy themselves so I'm not sure how much they're paying them I know this much they ain't f****** starving like people back in North America are!!!!!!
Justin I'm going to tell you something the people working in these grocery stores that I'm shopping at here in China are not being paid slave wages I don't care what these guys say they're not being paid slave wages.....
Last time I was in Phoenix, USA, about $10 for two basic grocery items. My Isan wife about fainted when I explained this. She is less interested in living in America than I am.
It's foolish isn't ?
Even the eggs are more than $10 in Canada now.......
The audio sounds like your microphone is still wet from songkran.
Wet from water or wet from?...😂
Yeah I'm having a really hard time sorting out the mic situation and the sound situation I apologize I'm doing everything I can to get better at this....
Do me a favor bear with me I promise you I will sort it out
Hahahahahaha

Nice video doc.Good to see such affordable prices especially in Nanjing which is a tier 1 city. See you soon in Shanghai
Hey Matt and that's the crazy thing a lot of people think that I'm in some impoverished section of China where we're living off of eating dirt and stuff however as you mentioned I'm in a tear one city eating some of the most incredible foods in the world!!!!.
Lol
Yesterday in Bangkok TOPS market 8 chicken legs 73 Baht less than $2 .

Yes it's crazy here in the States 😢
food in the US has gone up, but if you look for sale items, it is still reasonable. Housing costs are what kills you in the West.
@@ubiquitousdiabolus Yeah, I tell people who are trying to budget to just insert the new housing costs and leave everything else pretty much the same. Your new life will have new costs like Visas and extra eating out
Medical is 'FREE' in many countries but insurance in Thailand is not.
Hey Roger I have heard yeah that prices there in the states are just shocking now even that garbage at McDonald's is crazy now!!!!!
Cheers mate 🍻
That's 100% true if you are willing to look around and shop for deals and stuff I can tell you this much even when I lived in Canada I made extremely good money but I always bought what was on sale my favorite meat was what was on sale!!!!
South Africa about 25% more expensive for groceries than in Thailand. Fruits and vegetables are a lot cheaper in Thailand.
Hey Brian this video is actually in China it's not even in Thailand....
But I can tell you this much I can eat every bit as affordably in Thailand as I do in China....
I definitely can't say that for any other place in the world but I can say it about these two countries....
Possibly Cambodia and Vietnam as well.....

Walmart in Alberta, Canada I can buy 30 eggs for slightly over $10...

Seriously check back next week I'm going to do another one of these videos and show you everything that I was able to buy again for $10 and I guarantee you I'm going to get a six pack of beer included in that and the beer is going to cost me about $1.32 not per beer for the whole six-pack!!!!!!!

it is fucking beyond insane here, I live in a bubble in Florida with seriously the highest priced food anywhere in the country. I LIVE on walmart brand frozen veggies, lettuce, salad fixings, baked beans and rice/noodles (vegan) I spend nearly 900$/mo on food as a 170lb 6ft1 guy who hasn't eaten out anywhere in over a year. fucking. insane. yeah thats not a typo, 30$/day for about 4000calories of carbs and ZERO meat or dessert/candy stuff.
Doesnt make sense, go to Aldis
I hear your pain I've seen so many people in Canada posting these TikTok videos where they are literally crying about not being able to even afford basic nutritional food......
People going on about how they have to have two or three jobs just to be able to afford basic groceries....
I'll tell you this much when I lived in Canada I made extremely good money but I still ate what was on sale my favorite meat was whatever was on sale....
I totally hear your frustration and I tip my hat to you for even trying
Thanks for watching and commenting
Thanks for the tip
$10 at USA ? Your lucky to get a gum from bubble gum machine. Its crazy expensive here. Companies earning huge profits and robbing us 😢
Isn't it absolutely amazing I was able to get all of this again I could have even if I could have scanned the damn potatoes got potatoes as well for $10...
Check back next week I'm going to do another one of these and show people again a whole different batch of goods that I was able to get for $10 and I'm even going to get a six pack of beer!!!!

This is half the story...I remember when I could buy a steak a nickle...yeah but I was making 4 cents an hour...$14 dollars mimlnimum wage in parts of Canada...Thais have a chance at that?part of the reason why PPP should be learned
Hey Todd this video was shot in China Mate,,,,,
About groceries in China,,,,,
However I can tell you this much a Thai person working in a low paying job (cashier waited cleaner etc etc) can afford to have a small apartment, usually a motorbike and EAT HEALTHY FOOD!!!!!
On their low salary!!!!!
That's the true side to this story....
But again Mate this video was shot in China and about China,,,,,,,
Thanks for watching and commenting
Hanging head in shame for not paying more attention...lol
Hahahahhaha
Bro it's all good!!!!
But honestly you've opened up an incredible conversation and have given me a wicked idea for a video
See from shame and humiliation great things come
Doctor, I passed a road sign advertising eggs for five dollars a dozen. I laughed because it seems they thought it was a deal. I remember when a dozen eggs went for 95 cents.
You know it's really crazy because when I left Canada I used to be able to get a dozen eggs for about a $1.79CAD
I'm being told by everyone I know back in Canada that 30 eggs is now over $10!
WTF
I would use caution to put in my mouth food from a Chinese grocery store ... It takes nothing that the chicken breasts actually are a byproduct of diesel fuel rectification.
I'm sorry but that is completely totally false!!!!
Not sure where you got that from but it's a load of s#it
Have you ever been to China?
Nanjing is a tier 1 city
Sorry but this common is absolutely ignorant and completely totally uninformed...

The other day I went to Walmart. I bought a half gallon of milk. It was $6. I bought four cans of Guinness and that was $11. I bought a six pack of some kind of IPA that was $12.
I prefer to drink my food these days. Yeah, the costs of groceries in the US especially last year was astronomical. I am giving up my home. My car. My very expensive e-bike, a lot of stuff that I acquired through the years. All sold at bargain basement prices in the last couple weeks. Tomorrow I turn my motorhome in to a repair shop that will then send it to the consignment place when it's finished. I stand to lose quite a lot of money on that deal. Same with my car. I'm going to lose some money there too. And I don't care because I'll make it all up living in Thailand. It may take a while but the cost of living there compared to the cost of living here is no comparison.
Isn't that sad ...
