It's also unfortunately better than anything IP holders themselves could make for decades. There are small signs of them turning it around now, but still very little hope.
"One guy made this?" Syama Pederson. His work single-handedly changed the way Games Workshop portrayed Astartes in their films. He was taken by GW, and he participated in the Warhammer Secret Level episode. As it currently stands, I believe he left GW and is currently working on another project with a new studio, one that has very similar themes to the Mechanicus but is in a different universe. "sanctioned psyker" "is that a super-powerful psyker?" Sunny, "sanctioned" means protected. allowed. If the government sanctions you, that means youre allowed to be here.
based on the astartes 2 trailer, from the looks of it he left GW, created Digital Bones as an independent animation studio, but still working with, but not under, GW from what i could tell.
My favorite part of this is how fast and heavy the marines feel. When they start sprinting towards the psykers it feels menacing and you really understand why these things are horrifying.
3:09 that gun shoots a lot of lasers but they're really weak, it's called a multilaser, and against power armor it's basically useless 6:13 one sign of general warpfuckery is a drop in temperature. The floor was icy.
@TriangularPrism where are you getting this info cause all I'm seeing is that he still works for GW and helped work on the Secret Level episode for warhammer? Guy deleted his comment so I guess his source was "I made it the fuck up, I love being a shit heel. :)"
@RadicalStreamin Misinformation, apparently. I thought he'd left based on some freelance work on Linkedin, but nothing there actually indicates that he's parted ways, so my bad for not doing the research
@@RadicalStreamin The source is Syama Pedersen's own LinkedIn profile. It changed to list himself as a Freelance worker, then again to Digital Bones Studio. He worked on Secret Level not as a GW employee, but as an independent contractor.
@@RWhite_ GW proving business practices suck in *all* of gaming, not just video games. They put him on contract for years just to prevent him from doing something they should've capitalized on instead. Whoever was in charge of that needs to be involuntarily committed.
Basically some beings from the Warp had a physical presence in reality via those 2 orbs. Presumably using their Psychic powers, they had convinced a lot of normal humans to rebel against the Imperium and help them. The Golden man was presumably an upgrade for them to possess over the orbs. The spines and face masks had empowered people to become Psykers, probably at the direction of the Warp Entity-Orbs. The sanctioned Psyker working for the Inquisition (as indicated by the Inquisitorial "I" on his robes) l, was spying on the Orbs/Warp Entities. The Warp Entities decided that they couldn't stop the Astartes so they were going to take them and flee. The Inquisitorial Psyker tried to warn the Veteran Astartes, but in doing so, became possessed by the Orb/Warp Entity in containment. The Veteran Astartes, knowing how potentially dangerous a Psyker possessed by something from the Warp can be, promptly "exorcised" the sanctioned Psyker. The remaining Orb/Warp Entity took the Astartes and pulled them into the Warp with it, presumably trying to get or go somewhere. However, something happened to the Warp Entity (tentacle monster thing) while they were in the Warp and so the Astartes "fell" out of the Warp and consequently, teleported to a random planet. The end.
@@IsonDaya It's plausible, we know that death doesn't necessarily mean "the end", since we have Astartes that serve in the Legion of the Damned, and it's been rumored for quite some time that Ferrus Mannus commands them through the warp after he was killed by Fulgrim
What I love about the Astartes animation is the way it shows how powerful super soldiers are compared to baseline humanity. The teaser (that technically was only released on patreon, but is easily viewable on YT) went a step further and showed WHY these super solders are necessary in a galaxy of lethal hostility. Syama Pedersen, the creator behind Astartes, was indeed hired by Games Workshop back in late 2020. As of July 2024, he has officially taken on independent projects (see "Huxley: The Oracle"), and as such can be presumed to have fully left GW. However, he was a layout artist for the Warhammer episode of The Secret Level, which was animated by Blur Studios. Unfortunately it's been over four years since GW took over the Astartes project, and there have been no signs that Astartes 2 will ever be released from development hell. That's not to say there haven't been additional projects in the mean time, but it does feel like GW is holding back the biggest one that sparked such a huge interest in high quality Warhammer cinematics.
The inquisitorial sanctioned psycher is monitoring the captured orb. When the SM's stab those thingees into the new orb in the captured ship they start communicating with each other telepathically basically saying "the jig is up, I can't posses the Astartes, break your seal (the one in chains) and try to possess the psyker" or something like that. He says "take the alpha" - I assume he means the psyker - Alpha is a psyker power level designation i.e. Alpha level psyker. He does, the Astartes on the command ship immediately realize whats happening and smoke him.
Bolt guns, per the lore, shoot a slug that is 3/4 of an inch in diameter. A traditional charge is used to expel it out the front and from there it contains an internal fuel source which causes it to continue to accelerate. You can see this at 3:46 and once the fuel is all used up, it triggers the explosive charge within the slug. This charge can also be caused to detonate by hitting its target. By design, it's meant to penetrate the target, then detonate shortly thereafter, from within the target. This is why at 1:20 you just see the rebels turning into a mist. The sisters also use a boltgun, but because they're baseline humans they have to use a smaller one, being either .4 or .5 inches in caliber, and they can still only shoot these while wearing their power armor to help brace against the recoil. There are even smaller bolt pistols made for baseline humans that fire an even smaller slug, but they all have the same effect. In short, they're essentially rocket propelled grenades.
A few chat corrections: Bolter/Bolt Gun rounds aren't tank shells, they're more like 20mm rocket propelled explosive rounds. Syama Pedersen(Astartes creator) wasn't the lead animator for the 40k Secret Level episode, he's part of the layout artists. Service Studs(piercings) are years of service, and depending on the chapter they will use different materials and mean different years, but generally gold = 100 years, silver = 50 years. More fun facts: You can't hear the marines speak because Syama made it so that you can't hear their radio chatter outside their helmets(probably because it's too expensive to hire VAs), but if you look at their gestures and head movements they are actually communicating with each other through their radios, if you listen really closely you can even hear the Inquisitor psyker yell "get them out of there" or something along those lines when he heard the conversation of the 2 orbs and the Captain he said it to immediately ordered for the other marine to radio them, and on the next scene you can see the sergeant(?) turn his head when he got the message before getting sucked into the orb.
The preferred weapon of the Astartes is the bolter, an automatic, rapid fire rocket propelled grenade launcher that shoots ammo the size of soda cans. Bolt shells have two stages, an initial propellant charge that launches them out of the gun, and then a secondary rocket assist to speed them to their destination. Upon contacting the target, the explosive charge inside the shell is wired to explode a split second after impact to ensure it's inside the target where the explosion will deal maximum damage. These also come in a pistol variety that is frequently wielded in the offhand to compliment a melee weapon such as a chainsword, and a heavy variety that fires even larger rounds and is fed from a backpack full of ammo for sustained fire. Bolters aren't exclusive to the Astartes, though bolters made for normal humans are significantly smaller for obvious reasons. The Sororitas make use of these downsized bolters, and the better equipped Imperial Guard regiments make frequent use of heavy bolters for fire support and point defense on vehicles, though they rely on tripods since they obviously can't lug these things around and fire them from the hip like Astartes can.
1:36 fairly sure the thing the astartes rode in on in the beginning is not a boarding torpedo, but an assault ram. its not quite clear which one, the "shark" should be bigger, but has defensive weapons that check out, while the "caestus" looks a bit different and doesnt seem(?) to have a defensive gun. from a quick look, boarding torpedoes are literally just that: torpedoes, with regular people inside. space marine assault craft are heavier armored & have weapons to protect their payload and have either laser or melta weapons to weaken the ships hull while punching through it. 2:10 people (and even many games) often exaggerate how big the bolts (=bullets) are. standard size 3/4th of an inch, the "heavy" variant is exactly an inch, so ~25mm. so like a modern auto cannon, but tank shells are around 105mm, depending. the "sniper" actually utilized an auto cannon there. fun fact is that in the edition of the game this was made during, auto cannons still wouldnt punch through marine armor. but its powerful enough to easily wound if hitting a weak spot, so its dangerous. the stationary gun they rolled in right after is a Multilaser. fairly strong, but no armor penetration, the volume of fire makes it dangerous. 2:45 the lad that got stabbed there was carrying a melta bomb/charge (fairly sure). that one could actually kill a marine. or really anything. 4:10 dropped the gun because the plasma weapons that humans use love to "explode" (or at least violently vent excess heat). they are very powerful in exchange though, as you can see from not only exploding the Multilaser, but also melting the marines own armor later. 4:59 what they were? obstacles. unimportant. just like the giant golden boy after. 9:11 shouting out the warning at the top of his lungs broke his concentration long enough to get possessed. by the way, if you want to get a tiny, but impressive glimpse onto the Fall of Cadia, to help visualize what happened, i recommend "Battlefleet Gothic 2 Fall of Cadia" on a channel called Veda Ra. they combined the cinematic and ingame cutscenes of the game Battlefleet Gothic 2 into a nice narrative.
What truly makes it amazing is that during the creation of Astartes his channel was stolen and sold off. It didn't take long for the news to spread throughout the 40k youtube community and get the big names involved. he got it back, obviously and in the original release he thanks those that pestered YT until they gave him back his channel.
"I don't know what kind of guns these are." "Bolters, Brother." She did start with bricky, so not knowing is to be expected. Remember to welcome the anime women, for lore for 40k is the glue that binds us and can be intimidating to the uninitiated
So for anyone curious about the man behind Astartes, Syama Pederson, he's kind of a man of mystery. He was innitially brought in to create a sequel series for games workshop but we haven't heard anything about it since. best guess is that fell through. He worked at Blur Studios for a bit and on the Secret level animation that just released but that was over a year ago. It seems now he works at his own studio. WHat are they working on? Last update from him was about something called V45. The last update for which comes from his linkedin where he's looking for FX help on the project. As of now that is the only thing we know he's working on.
I hope Sunny reads some books or looks up lore that delve into the humanity of the Imperium. Shes loving the cool aspect of Warhammer but the feels and grim dark of it all is what keeps it captivating. She got emotional during the Ogryn story, i can only imagine the tears she'll shed during other stories, like the Dreadnaughts.
5:25 Thankyoouuu someone in her chat actually said the right thing of what those two "psykers" were. They're automatons. Not actual psykers. Astartes poked at a piece of 40k lore that isn't really talked about much in the setting and it has to do with an ancient extinct warp-based race (i'm forgetting the name of now) that made "Artifacts of Doom", which are the spheres we see later.
I should point out that the short animator himself said that he didn't refer to any particular bit of lore for the spheres, and that they're just sort of There
He left GW long ago. His work on Secret Level was as an independent contractor after he had left the company. He unfortunately has no ability to continue the project, and if GW cared to greenlight a part 2 they'd have done so while he was still employed by them directly.
Bolt weapons don't shoot tank shells, but rocket propelled explosive rounds. In the Psychers scene when they stopped the bullets with their shield, you can see the propulsion trail on them, with said rounds exploding seconds afterwards.
Im seeing some misinformation in chat as usual... as far as I know, NOWHERE was it confirmed that Syama Pederson was the 'Lead Animator' for the secret level episode, he was only credited as the "Layout Artist." COME ON CHAT! Also, just a few service stud rips from a wiki real quick, i double checked the cited omnibus', theyre pretty good books, anyone wanting a good read should check them out (The Soul Drinkers Omnibus and The Ultramarines Omnibus.) The service studs thing is pretty fluid among different legions and chapters, by and large though most silver ones, dependent on the shape of the stud will be 50-100 years, with gold ones being 50-150, also dependent on the marine. Our Squad leader in the animation had two silver studs and one gold stud, possibly denoting 200 years of service... *Dark Angels* Silver stud - 50 years of service. Gold stud - a full century of service. *Soul Drinkers* Silver stud - 10 years of service as a battle-brother. Ebony stud - 10 years of service with the Chaplaincy. *Ultramarines* Gold stud - 50 years of service.
Astartes are basically walking tanks. Their armour is made of ceramite (a fantasy sci-fi version of ceramic composite tank armour from today), their suits are full of electronics for target acquisition and vision enhancement, and mechanical servos to significantly increase their already formidable strength and agility, and their bodies are genetically and surgically modified to turn them into superhumans with a ton of extra abilities, like fast healing and blood coagulation, acid spit, enhanced vision and memory, superior thinking speed. And that's just a sample from a very long list. A regular human with a machine gun stands basically no chance against them.
By the way, did you notice the flashes during the final scene, on the different pillars? That was the rest of his squad translating from the warp. I can only ever count three flashes, though, so unless one translated off screen, one of his squad is missing.
Funny thing about Boltguns/Boltors: (also, I am not a 40k fan but I know little bits here and there because seeing people react to this stuff is kind of interesting) they are big, BIG guns. Basically made for Space Marines to use because the caliber is BIG. Like the equivalent of firing mini rockets but at the same speed (or if not higher) than regular bullets. Also, the many variations of the Boltgun can only be wielded by Space Marines because they van withstand the extreme recoil. Let's say if a normal human/Guardsman were to fire one round, they would just die. The recoil kickback on Boltguns are that immense. Space Marines can control it because, well they are stronger, have YEARS of training and are literally in power armor that would most likely help mitigate a good amount of the kickback energy. 40k guns be crazy. I am sure that Orks can wield them with their power of "imagination" of being able to wield it... somewhat correctly but i am not sure.
considering the opening of bay doors at the start, it probably wasnt a boarding torpedo eventho a cobra class destroyer, wich i think is what that ship is, could fire them the bay door opening at the start and the lower speed make it look more like a more standard boarding pod and not the tube fired torpedo usually a torpedo is safer as its more durable and fast, along with allowing longer range firing but this one had sacrificial escorts, assuming some expensive inquisition sponsored defenses presumably because torpedoes are also less accurate in where they hit being mostly unguided bolters dont fire tank shells its only .75cal thats like the big 50cal anti material rifle and a half that then explode once they go inside something sniper dude in the walls position was given away anyway better to keep firing and pray to hit something marines have very good night vision, even without all the extra helmet systems like thermal vision so just being in the dark wasnt going to keep him hidden after the first shot definitely not just regular psychers, they had somekind of augmentation but there is no real info about who they served and what augmentation they could have given them piercings are service studs nails drilled into their skulls, usually for every 50 years of service his seem very small tho, so maybe a non standard form of service studs so could represent other numbers it is not still being made part of gw hiring him was a cease and desist
i have a hypothesis for the spinal psyker guys: the sound they made hitting the floor was more akin to metal on metal collision, so the idea was they are psyker-controlled automatons of sorts, but more like cybernetic to channel some iota of organic psychic power.
To answer an obvious question: No, Space Marines are not that durable on the table top . . . unfortunately I play Grey Knights, who got nerfed in recent editions, they took away most of their unit spells like smite. Granted, their new Warpbane detachment rules have some good stuff
imagine being a space marine player and complaining that you got nerfed you still outspell thousand sons and the shadow in the warp still hasnt been brought back, stop complaining that your winrate has been reduced to 70%
There was a White Dwarf (iirc) with lore accurate Marines called Movie Marines. It was a single squad of space marines that was strong enough (and expensive enough in points) to function as a full army.
so the way these boltgun works is: they fly extremly fast, faster then any weapon on this earth fires. before these projectiles hit a target they explode to destroy any amor the target is wearing and then explode a second time inside the enemy to make them into some flesh slurry
Dude made this years ago. Got picked up by Games Workshop (peeps behind Warhammer) but they made him delete his channel. He dropped off the map for a long time. We finally got word with the recent Secret Level episode which has his name on it.
Those orbs are called umbras. I have found out the name by playing the PC game called "Gladius: Relics of War" because they are natives of the wilderness on the planet
The golden thing was probably some kind of constuct they were building for the being in the xenos orb to inhabit so it can be seen as a walking god to it's heretical human followers - more rizz than just being an orb.
A few notes. One, around 3:15 when you say "Not affected" it's actually a detail that they CAN be hurt because there actually are burn marks on his armor from the Lascannon when he throws the flashbang, they remain visible on that marine later when he fights the antagonists (I am not sure if they are psykers or some other more super niche lore. The orb-y thing at the end is not a Chaos artifact though, it's some other alien tech, a minor faction called the Yu-vath.) Details in this short are fantastic. And if you think this was impressive, just wait until you see the Secret Level 40K episode. It's even better than this.
Likely, the weapon system they used against the marine was a multi-las. It was likely not a lascannon as typically not even astartes' ceramite plated armor can withstand a single shot from a lascannon. They are in-universe and gameplay wise designed to fill the role of anti-armor. They fill the anti-tank role of weaponries. And even space marines typically aren't plated heavier than tanks which also are made from the same material - ceramite. Lascannons are also semi-auto fire systems unlike the automatic nature of the twin mounted multi-las we see in the video. The damage caused to the marine is because as weak as a lasgun is (compared to most weapons and armor in lore) enough shots can damage space marine armor. That's why there is a quote saying, " The Legionnaire that scoffs at a lasgun has not charged across an open field against a hundred of them."
The best tanks are used by the Astra Militarum and have three turrets with one on the top, then one on each side, all of them being lascannons. They also don't have fancy hover propulsion but instead good old treads, something the Orcs also appreciate. The best thing for ground use of all though, definitely the Imperator Class Titans. Those titans are pretty much walking cathedrals with lots of weapons, sometimes ones that can vaporize whole continents.
11:02 those are i believe service studs that indicate how long a marine has served. The time per stud can vary from Chapter to Chapter and depends on the material and style. Silver studs can mean anything from 10 to 50 years per stud. Example: Dark Angels: Silver Stud: 50 years Gold Stud: 100 years Ultramarines: Gold Stud: 50 years
Hi, glad you enjoyed this animation, it is basically pinnacle of what we got in WH40k animation word (well maybe now until Space Marine episode in Final Level). I saw in another reaction that you might be into books so if you want to read some Warhammer novels, I would say good play to start with Eisenhorn trilogy starting with book Xenos, it is about Inquisitor going after heretics and as such you can see Empire outside of the view of War. But if War is what you are up for then One and Only series by Dan Abnett is amazing, it is about guard units whose planets gets destroyed and their only hope is service to the Empire where they might be rewarded with new world to call their own. It is basically Band of Brother but in Wh40k. And if you wanna check out Spess Mehreens, then I really enjoyed Salamanders trilogy, however if you are wanna see a bit more grimdark side of the setting then Helsreach is pretty good.
The guy who made this, Syama Pedersen, was the 'cameraman' for the 40k episode of Secret Level, it's worth watching. He did make this one his own (over the course of a decade), but then Games Workshop told 40k fan animators to either work for them or stop producing content. Syama was supposed to continue this work, but if he quit GW, Astartes is dead in the water...
The creator was in New Zealand. No one really knows where they worked. There are a number of computer graphics companies there and one well know movie special effects company. You know Weta Workshop. They worked on Lord Of The Rings, Blade Runner 2049, Ghost in the Shell, Dune, Dune Part Two. I was always under the impression with the quality of the work made him a Weta employee or free lancer.
He who fights with heretics might take care lest he thereby become a heretic. And if you ponder long upon the orb, the orb ponders also upon you ahh setting. Its why we love it honestly. That and the funny green mushroom hooligans and dementia addled, out of touch cancer robots.
Chat got the orb ponderer wrong. That wasn't a sanctioned psyker or a tech priest. That was an Inquisitor. Inquisitors are very, very big deals. An inquisitor basically has unlimited writ and sanction to root out heresy and deal with it. That can involve taking control of planets, snapping up space marine chapters to fight daemons, taking control over huge swathes of space and commanding their guardsmen etc. Inquisitors can be very, very high in the chain of power, only like three or four steps removed from the emperor himself.
unless it has been confirmed somewhere, i highly doubt an inquisitor would strap himself into a machine like that. it would make more sense to me that hes part of an inquisitors retinue, thats why hes wearing the symbol of the inquisition.
@@srkares He's bearing the imperial =][= of the inquisition, multiple times over and he's got the inquisitorial seal & rosarius. That's how you identify inquisitors. Even members of an inquisitorial retinue tend to not bear these things. The guy also has the chapters 1st company veterans serving as "bodyguard" and deferring to him, that *screams* inquisitor.
@@Syfa the company leadership was clearly there for the artifact, not for him, to observe if anything is happening. not sure what you mean with "deferring", he was communicating with the thing, something they could not do, and then shouting a very urgent warning. would have been stupid not to react. the prayer rosarius at least also doesnt really mean anything, but the inquisitorial seals on the chain with the censer might. if its supposed to be an inquisitor its pretty unclear, because hes way less fancy than any other inquisitor, directly interfaces with a machine, has a HUD and puts himself directly into unknown danger, all things that are pretty atypical.
@Syfa Bruh he could be both, Inquisitors have large retinues and can have any number or specialised type of individual working for them. Clearly that individual was either some sort of psyker to be skilled enough to be able to listen in on their conversation without being noticed at first,or he was some sort of tech priest using his skills to listen in on them. You can't speak with certainty, at least not with the type of certainty you are
@@ironduke5058 The majority of inquisitors are psykers, and the character is decked out in inquisitorial heraldry - which is extremely forbidden to non-inquisitors. They also have an inquisitorial rosarius which is only for the *actual* inquisitor and not any members of their retinue. The sequence of events just outright does not line up with anything a tech priest can do, because it's very obviously warp related. Tech priests don't have visions like that, nor are they executed for fear of possession. There are also basically no examples of overlap between inquisition nad the mechanicum of mars. If they wanted to identify the character as being affiliated with the mechanicum they would throw out the skull-and-cog iconography instead of just the inquisition iconogrphy. Even tech-marines and dark mechancium still carry the skull-and-cog iconography, it **would** be present, it's lack of presence goes a long way to say "this character has nothing to do with the mechancium". And on top of all of that - the only sort of tech priest that would be so low on augments would be an extremely low level one. Not one who would be high enough in rank to operate independently as part of the inquisition and command marines to "RECALL YOUR MEN IMMEDIATELY". There's about a billion different context clues and points of just knowing the lore that rule out tech priest and scream "inquisitor" that it isn't even an actual question as to what the guy is.
To put it into perspective, the person who got punched, and shot by the Astartes was either an Inquisitor, or Inquisitorial Agent, either way one of the most powerful people in the Imperium. They are above the Law, and are the only people who can order Exterminatus, the death sentance of an entire planet. They are more politically powerful than the Astartes that killed them, and that was the correct call, because that psyker was in the process of the Warp burning his brain out, and potentially creating a gateway for Daemons to possess his body. Daemon Hosts are a level of Nope that not even being a member of the Elite of the Elite will save you from being immediately killed for even providing the barest hint of becoming one around those who know the signs.
Hey Sunny, you should watch some of PancreasNoWork stuff, he talks about W40k a ton and is very funny/informative. Any of his Do or Don't for a faction are good, or his "The Emperor is a C-Tier God" video are great Edit: His "War hammer isn't that Overpowered" would be the best to start with.
It's worth mentioning he got hired by GW so they could keep him from making better 40K content than them, same as why they alternatively hired or C&D'd all other fan creators into oblivion. They then proceeded to waste his talent by not utilizing it until he left and started his own studio as a freelancer now. However, due to GW being the scummy people that they are, who don't listen to what the fans want, he likely won't ever make another 40K fan animation due to the threat of legal action. He did work on the Secret Level project, but as far as I know that's literally the only thing he got to work on.
Boys we got her. She took the 40k bait and now she can't escape! A few more pushes into the deep end and soon she'll be doing model painting streams, for her over priced minis.
yea welcome to 40k where warp things are always far weirder than they first seem and it gets confusing real quick. so i wanted to help explain a few bits for anyone new to 40k here: someone pointed out that temperature drops in the presence of a psyker. this isn't entirely true. it is most commonly a sign of daemons when the temperature drops. Competent psykers are capable of controlling this phenomena so it doesn't occur when they use their powers, like the inquisitorial psyker. speaking of which, that psyker pondering the orb had one job and that was to observe and monitor the status of the orbs, which are presumably daemons or at least warp based entities. to do this he has to open his mind to them, but to prevent corruption, he mutters prayers and incantations to ward off the daemons touch. He interrupts this for just a moment when he learns of the orbs plan for the space marine squad and screams loud enough to be heard outside his helmet "recall them immediately!". they all have an internal communication system so that's why we never hear them speak. the daemon that the psyker is connected to takes advantage of his pause and attacks but the psyker is unable to fight for control. He is killed to prevent any further daemonic outbreaks and other potential catastrophic damage that a daemon possessed psyker might inflict. However, the psyker still has a presence in the warp, since the souls of the dead go to the warp. his presence can be seen as that black smoke we saw on his hands, when looking through his eyes. this same smoke comes to rescue the astartes team that was pulled into the warp, and in some final heroic act, the psyker saves the team from the daemon, dumping them on some random planet in real space.
its interesting from someone who has been playing 40k since i was like 7ish (like 2001) seeing all the chat just say the most incorrect things, like its normally from a place of passion or hearing it from others but its so many wrong things haha its cool to see people get into the space more tho, games workshops best game is blood bowl tho and i will fight you all

@@RadicalStreaminHis source is that he made it the fuck up.
The studs in his forehead are Service Studs, signifying a length of service, different Chapters have different significance to the colours.
The end.
A theory that I had heard was it was the psyker throwing his soul at it as his last service to the emperor after the execution.
A few chat corrections:
Bolter/Bolt Gun rounds aren't tank shells, they're more like 20mm rocket propelled explosive rounds.
More fun facts:
You can't hear the marines speak because Syama made it so that you can't hear their radio chatter outside their helmets(probably because it's too expensive to hire VAs), but if you look at their gestures and head movements they are actually communicating with each other through their radios, if you listen really closely you can even hear the Inquisitor psyker yell "get them out of there" or something along those lines when he heard the conversation of the 2 orbs and the Captain he said it to immediately ordered for the other marine to radio them, and on the next scene you can see the sergeant(?) turn his head when he got the message before getting sucked into the orb.
I need to see Sunny react to the Secret Level Warhammer 40k episode.
Welcome to 40k, it's horrible here, and we all love it.
"I don't know what kind of guns these are."
"Bolters, Brother."
She did start with bricky, so not knowing is to be expected. Remember to welcome the anime women, for lore for 40k is the glue that binds us and can be intimidating to the uninitiated
Keep going, I’m gonna warp
Feel the pain of the story of the Luna Wolves' best boi, 10th Captain Gavriel Loken 🥲
@@PBRatLord may i raise you an "I am Rylanor, i am the Ancient of Rights!"?
This guy didn't just get hired. He made the secret level episode, didn't he?
As an independent contractor after he had already left the company. At least that's what his LinkedIn profile suggests.
"Ancient extinct warp-based race" Yu-Vath?
I should point out that the short animator himself said that he didn't refer to any particular bit of lore for the spheres, and that they're just sort of There
@@TriangularPrism Really? I digress then.. guess there were just a ton of coincidences that made it seem like a reference to that lore lol

Small typo in the title.

Also, just a few service stud rips from a wiki real quick, i double checked the cited omnibus', theyre pretty good books, anyone wanting a good read should check them out (The Soul Drinkers Omnibus and The Ultramarines Omnibus.)
The service studs thing is pretty fluid among different legions and chapters, by and large though most silver ones, dependent on the shape of the stud will be 50-100 years, with gold ones being 50-150, also dependent on the marine.
Our Squad leader in the animation had two silver studs and one gold stud, possibly denoting 200 years of service...
*Dark Angels*
Silver stud - 50 years of service.
Gold stud - a full century of service.
*Soul Drinkers*
Silver stud - 10 years of service as a battle-brother.
Ebony stud - 10 years of service with the Chaplaincy.
*Ultramarines*
Gold stud - 50 years of service.
3 weeks after you saw this, he returned to us with his own studio with a sequel to this in the works!!!
"we're talking aliens, we're talking get 'em out of here." AYO
I am sure that Orks can wield them with their power of "imagination" of being able to wield it... somewhat correctly but i am not sure.
considering the opening of bay doors at the start, it probably wasnt a boarding torpedo
eventho a cobra class destroyer, wich i think is what that ship is, could fire them
the bay door opening at the start and the lower speed make it look more like a more standard boarding pod and not the tube fired torpedo
usually a torpedo is safer as its more durable and fast, along with allowing longer range firing
but this one had sacrificial escorts, assuming some expensive inquisition sponsored defenses
presumably because torpedoes are also less accurate in where they hit being mostly unguided
bolters dont fire tank shells
its only .75cal
thats like the big 50cal anti material rifle and a half
that then explode once they go inside something
sniper dude in the walls position was given away anyway
better to keep firing and pray to hit something
marines have very good night vision, even without all the extra helmet systems like thermal vision
so just being in the dark wasnt going to keep him hidden after the first shot
definitely not just regular psychers, they had somekind of augmentation
but there is no real info about who they served and what augmentation they could have given them
piercings are service studs
nails drilled into their skulls, usually for every 50 years of service
his seem very small tho, so maybe a non standard form of service studs so could represent other numbers
it is not still being made
part of gw hiring him was a cease and desist
From the same animator, the trailer for Astartes II just dropped today.
"This has to be his job" it is now lol. Syama Pedersen basically manifested their own destiny with this project and we are all here cheering them on!
i have a hypothesis for the spinal psyker guys: the sound they made hitting the floor was more akin to metal on metal collision, so the idea was they are psyker-controlled automatons of sorts, but more like cybernetic to channel some iota of organic psychic power.
To answer an obvious question:
No, Space Marines are not that durable on the table top . . . unfortunately
I play Grey Knights, who got nerfed in recent editions, they took away most of their unit spells like smite. Granted, their new Warpbane detachment rules have some good stuff
imagine being a space marine player and complaining that you got nerfed
you still outspell thousand sons and the shadow in the warp still hasnt been brought back, stop complaining that your winrate has been reduced to 70%
well, this was back in 7th/8th edition when a 3+ armour save was worth a lot more, still
There was a White Dwarf (iirc) with lore accurate Marines called Movie Marines. It was a single squad of space marines that was strong enough (and expensive enough in points) to function as a full army.
so the way these boltgun works is:
they fly extremly fast, faster then any weapon on this earth fires.
before these projectiles hit a target they explode to destroy any amor the target is wearing and then explode a second time inside the enemy to make them into some flesh slurry
Dude made this years ago. Got picked up by Games Workshop (peeps behind Warhammer) but they made him delete his channel. He dropped off the map for a long time. We finally got word with the recent Secret Level episode which has his name on it.
One guy making it makes more sense when you realize he did it over multiple years
Those orbs are called umbras.
I have found out the name by playing the PC game called "Gladius: Relics of War" because they are natives of the wilderness on the planet
Astartes II trailer dropped LETSGO
In case you see this, the Astartes 2 trailer just dropped today.
The golden thing was probably some kind of constuct they were building for the being in the xenos orb to inhabit so it can be seen as a walking god to it's heretical human followers - more rizz than just being an orb.
I really like your black and yellow coloring, reminds me of the Iron Warriors.
The thing you see at 6:35 is the same thing that they fought just before they entered the sealed blast door, just scaled way up.
The orb-y thing at the end is not a Chaos artifact though, it's some other alien tech, a minor faction called the Yu-vath.)
Details in this short are fantastic.
@RubicGirl You right.
LOL "THEY'RE GETTING SUCC'D!" 🤣
The best tanks are used by the Astra Militarum and have three turrets with one on the top, then one on each side, all of them being lascannons. They also don't have fancy hover propulsion but instead good old treads, something the Orcs also appreciate. The best thing for ground use of all though, definitely the Imperator Class Titans. Those titans are pretty much walking cathedrals with lots of weapons, sometimes ones that can vaporize whole continents.
For anyone that watched the secret level episode. Yes, he did work on it
she then proceeded to not pay attention
2:02
You're welcome, Sunny, and thank you. The Emperor protects ;)
This one guy was also hired by gw to do their secret level episode
11:02 those are i believe service studs that indicate how long a marine has served. The time per stud can vary from Chapter to Chapter and depends on the material and style. Silver studs can mean anything from 10 to 50 years per stud.
Example:
Dark Angels:
Silver Stud: 50 years
Gold Stud: 100 years
Ultramarines:
Gold Stud: 50 years
I want sunny to see warhammer memes, like the one from the Lion ressurection asking about Guilliman
Those orbs are Umbras, at least I think so.

For more fanmade content for Warhammer, I highly, HIGHLY recommend Sodaz!
Helsreach next please! ❤
One guy in a cave.
yea welcome to 40k where warp things are always far weirder than they first seem and it gets confusing real quick. so i wanted to help explain a few bits for anyone new to 40k here:
someone pointed out that temperature drops in the presence of a psyker. this isn't entirely true. it is most commonly a sign of daemons when the temperature drops.
It is professional as hell, and as I'm sure someone told you, GW hired this guy because of this.
He's been making stuff for them for a while now.
I think he actually quit.

It's good to finally see that they let Astartes guy out of the dungeon for Secret Level, but I still hate GW for basically burying Astartes.

its interesting from someone who has been playing 40k since i was like 7ish (like 2001) seeing all the chat just say the most incorrect things, like its normally from a place of passion or hearing it from others but its so many wrong things haha its cool to see people get into the space more tho, games workshops best game is blood bowl tho and i will fight you all

Should have watched the originals. Bricky gave blanket permission, this guy didn't.

Minor spelling mistake in the title, I win
Please watch 'History of 40k' by Bricky
