What a comment
Hahaha
You deserve the Internet for that statement.😊
😂😂
This man is a true gent and really appreciates whisky. Would absolutely love to have a dram with Richard Patterson while he shares his stories
He’s a great salesman
He’s retired from The Dalmore as master distiller and he’s passed the reigns to someone who he really like. I think he’s still the master blender though. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Regardless, I’ve been a huge fan of The Dalmore and all of their expressions since I tried it for the first time in 2019.

Dude is like a pro whiskey drinker. How can you dislike this guy, he's great.
Whisky , Whiskey is for Irish
@@Vteccer666 *and American
@@WolfmanFoxtrothate to be that guy but it's ameriCunt.
@@Vteccer666whisky whiskey is the same shit
Easy, be a vodka snob 😂
and never forget to throw half of it up the wall
😂😂
Lmfao..brilliant..
Actually he threw most of the whiskey on the carpet. He said the reason he does that is to clean the glass from odors.
😂😂. The funny thing is I’ve seen people do the exact same thing when changing from one brand of whiskey to another. To remove any residue and odors from the last whiskey they where sipping. It’s normally the tiniest amount of the next whiskey they are going to sip. And yes it gets swirled around the glass and normally thrown onto the ground or over your shoulder.
@@ShaneO-nm2hh you mean when they're gonna have one whiskey after another in the same glass? why not just change glass? or at least change glass?
so they are only about to drink a bit of the next whisky but throw away even more than they drink?
got it, chew the whisky to extract the flavours
And if you left some flavor on the table, give it another go!

- Sir, this is a wendy's.
🤣🤣🤣
Just found this guy, great stuff. My dad was born in scotland and came over to the US when he was 17, this guy sounds like my dad when hes drunk 😂😂😅😅 ❤❤
This guy is bringing classy back and elevating it to a whole new level.
For anyone genuinly wondering how to start with whisky, dont stress too much about what particular whisky.
I would say start with something low abv. 40%. You want to train yourself to get used to the alcohol burn so its no longer an unpleasant distraction.
Perhaps add a teaspoon or 2 of spring water (not chilled) and take a sip, roll it over your tongue gently and swallow. Focus on the flavours, not the burn. What did you notice? Was it floral? Fruity? Did it remind you of citrus or perhaps xmas cake or were there whisps of a campfire?Eventually you wont notice the burn very much and will be able to 'see through' it to the flavours, but as richard said, dont rush it! Have a dram when you feel like it. Share your journey with a friend and compare notes. Its not a competition, its an experience that we are lucky to have the opportunity to enjoy.
As far as what bottle? Theres no rules but id say start with something decent but not expensive (ie better than johnny walker red but not too expensive). It doesnt have to be a scotch either. There is great whisky made all over the world but you can find decent quality and affordable scotches at most bottle shops. You want something thats meant for savouring but if you are inexperienced you might not be able to appreciate the nuances of an expensive bottle and that would be a a shame for the whisky and your wallet. You can build up to that later!
Later on, go halves with your whisky pal on a more fancy bottle and enjoy it together. Welcome to the wide world of whisky.
Ur gay
Your comment is so inspiring and a Realy serious guidance to newbies in whiskey. Thank you sir.
Id recommend john dewar and son's white label blended scotch whiskey. Its smooth no burn and you can keep it in the mouth and enjoy the notes of something not sure what.
Either its smooth or i am a official alcoholic 😅
Fantastic input. This is how articulate I’d like to be describing whiskeys.
I’d love to hear this guy describe something mundane like chocolate milk.
you should see that RUclipsr that analyzes the simplest things or something like that. I watched one and a soda can pour hack and he made it seem life changing lol
Monkey shoulder blended malt is a great one to start with. Other options would be glenlivet 12 yo, glenmorangie 10 yo or a chivas regal 12 yo. Remember to add enough water so you can drink it comfortably and try a few different ones to discover what you like!
For what it's worth, the first scotch that I started with that I really liked was Glenmorangie so that's what I always recommend. It's not too expensive and not too strong and a little fruity so it's easy to drink.
That’s a good one to start with. So is Balvenie. Or even Glenlivet or Glenfiddich for that matter, although they have a bit less character (but then again, a beginner probably won’t mind that). I’d say a Macallan too, but some people taste a lot of sulphur in it (I don’t) and find that off-putting. I’d definitely recommend that beginners hold off on some of the more “interesting” scotches until getting some experience, and then finally try the peated stuff, if that’s something they like.
Exactly what I'd recommend, the flagship Glenmorangie 10, or a fruity Speyside like Aberlour 12. Try them in a pub first though, they're a bit pricey for beginners (although good value for 10/12 year old single malts). Anything by Glen Moray is sweet/floral and easy on the wallet; I like their Chardonnay cask finish the most and that's obviously a good one for a wine drinker getting into scotch.
For blends, Johnnie Walker black is the ultimate blend of different regions and flavours. Also a good one to try in a pub.
You don't need to start with scotch. Irish whiskey is generally herbal, honeyed and/or floral and easier on the wallet (standard Bushmills is a great place to start, or slightly higher end Bushmills Black Bush or Glendalough Double Barrel).
Bourbon's great for beginners because it's dominant flavour is vanilla. Maker's Mark and Buffalo Trace are both great standard bourbons.
I love that this man is trending right now
His explanation is excellent! Experiment, and learn what you like, and sits well with you.
Me during the whole video: “That’s what she said!”
I’m in love with the Speysides.
Chew your whiskey! Got it!
the best way i found is a whisky tasting set. find which regional variety you like the best, and then you can try other specific malts.
also, often given advice for scotch is neat with just a few drops of water in your dram - not any amount that would 'cut' it. maybe folk advice, but i find it opens up the flavour surprisingly well for such an insignificant dilution.
I feel like this is a really advanced way to mask being an alcoholic
How is it not everyone who drinks in a alcoholic 🤡

This is the best channel I've ever seen, peak british humor. Its totally ironic, i realized its was a schtick in a different video where he threw out the first pour then jammed his nose in the glass. I love it
Recommending a couple reasonably priced bottles seems like a good idea
It's pretty easy to pick one and start. recommendations are better when given on a taste preference. for a beginner, asking your local total wine or specs employees is going to provide about the same result as asking someone who has been in the industry for decades, because a beginners palette hasn't developed and evolved to recognize certain notes that will make a Jameson different from a Grangestone. a beginner will be able to pick up on things like heat, smoothness, and general flavor, but not enough for it to make a significant difference between price ranges, types, and ages. What this gentleman did was elaborate on how a beginner should develop their pallete, and effectively said "you can start wherever you like, but make sure you taste it well to find what you truly enjoy."
Top bloke.. love his advice..
Truth, my man.
He and the My pillow guy should collaborate
Duuuude 😂 Mike Pillow's new career
This guys a legend
Thank you Mr. Patterson.
The two best ones to start are right behind him. The laphroaig 10 and the highland park 12. I would recommend the glenmorangie port roban as well
Love this fella
There is a phrase I go with that always helped me whenever I was around products I did not have an intimate knowledge of that would guide me to “the good stuff”. My mother taught it to me and I think it came from Coco Chanel, and I think it’s perfect for that time when you’re out and about and you don’t have someone around to guide you to the right decisions. It goes like this: “If you don’t know what is good, ask what is expensive”. I have, of course, greatly developed my tastes and my knowledge of many things since childhood, but this mindset never failed me whenever I encountered something new as I was growing up😉
Professor 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
okay there is fourth video of this gentle man and I'm subscribed!
First I get the video of him throwing whiskey all over his floors, now he’s taken over my algorithm
I need this mans voice when I sleep and some whiskey ofc
This is so true. As someone who is new to whisky, bourbon and scotch, and loves them all, its intimidating. I have found that many 20 - to 30 dollar bottles are just as good as some high-end brands.
Thx for the lesson!
“Sir I just asked for a double Jack and Coke”
When I picture a whiskey expert in my head this is the guy that shows up.
Johnny Walker Green Label was my Beginner-Level Scotch. Before drinking Scotch, when I was much younger, I started with Southern Comfort bourbon, eventually moved on to Wild Turkey, and over to Jameson's, and then got into various types of Johnny Walker blended whisky before I started regularly drinking Scotch. The bottle I'm currently working on is Glenlivet Captain Reserve.
Lovely!
nice advice
doing a tour in scotland is a good start, did mine in 2007, 2 weeks in the highlands, 1 week in inverness...
Buffalo Trace. Maker's Mark. Russell's Reserve 10 year.
You are all welcome.
The man was talking bc about scotch but for American whiskeys your rite forsure I think Buffalo trace is over rated I like a wheated bourbon like makers mark and Russell reserve is rite along the line if what an American whiskey should be I opened a bottle of wild turkey rare breed on Thanksgiving and I'm slowly sipping it mite open a redirect 12 cask strength for Christmas I have 2 atm or I mite open up one of my scotches I've got maybe the dahlwhinnie 15
These are bourbons. He’s talking about whisky…

FINALLY I HAVE FOUND THE LEGEND!!!
This man should be king
Hello from india, sir, you remind me of O'Brien from Star Trek DS9, It's probably because of Quark's (you are standing in a bar)
Great guy
I like this guy
Im a bartender and i always try to keep a good range of what i would serve in cocktails or even straight up if the coustomer asks for it but its so hard to recommend whiskey because it has so many styles and many people dont like smoky and many people want it on the rocks which makes it hard for me to give a good recommendation when they say “i like whiskey” and at home i like to drink bourbon or from sweden since its my place of origin. When im standing behind the bar i rarely know what to recommend. I can only say what i like
This gentleman has become my spirit animal no pun intended
Tried some out, thought I'd have to be snobbish about only single malts, then I stumbled upon a malt/grain blend that fit my taste so perfectly that I just stick with it (although I hardly drink anything alcoholic anymore these days. But it's nice to know that there is that one whiskey that can always increase my happiness by just that little notch :-) )
I really like that he didn't answer the question
I'm amazed that he didn't even accidentally give a starting point. I feel like he could have said don't start with one start with a variety so you learn what the ballgame is about. But nope.
I love this guy..awesomeness
Scotland is great
AA before starting your drinking journey is the best place to start
Dude shows up to an AA meeting:
Thought he was a meme at first but this guy is a character who looks his whiskey.
Reminds me of my grandad legend
My very first alcoholic drink was me swiping a dram of my parent's Glenlivet in the night. I don't remember the specifics, but I did find out later the bottle was over $100. I guess they must not have noticed because they never confronted me about it, much less made me pay for it fortunately lol.
A good start is Admiral Nelsons finest!
😂
No clue why these whisky videos have been in my feed.. but im not complaining
Bless you🙌
I just had scotch for the first time, and I like it. I'm getting bourbon next to see what I like better. I'm tippicly a cognac man, but I want to expand my palate
start with some TCP, or other anti bacterial surface cleaner - then gradually add more and more mouthfuls of soil.
Okay gonna chew the whiskey! Thanks sir!
He has a point but I still would like his recommendation
"Don't knock it back like a cowboy"
- This Guy
For a good blended malt for under 50 USD, I highly recommend Monkey Shoulder from Speyside
When I was younger i'd just drink to get drunk and thought ingesting as much as possible was the cool and correct way to drink.
Now i enjoy an Oz. Of bourban or whisky every now and then. Just sipping it.
I went down this rabbit hole years and years ago. I like any single malt scotch, chilled and over a little ice. Now I still say my all time favorite is a tequila. Cava de oro extra anejo. It will change your life.
The healthiest advice ever!😂

After being a complete whisker. You will be heard say hello from whisky.
this man reminds me of otto from Malcome in the middle anyone else see it?
Sam Neill really nailed this Ulsterman accent in Peaky Blinders
This is not and Ulster accent
For a beginner I’d give them something unpeated, 40% abv, chill filtered, with e150 food colouring. Least offensive whisky for a beginner.
Dalmore 12
I love Shackletons single malt.
Gentlemens jack
As a beginner myself who’s just trying to start off with whiskey I heard That one is perfect for the rookies
Advice that applies both to whisky and women. 👍
glenfiddich 12 yr is good to start with. blends like monkey shoulder have some peated flavor that you don't get with glenfiddich
The actual answer you didn't get from the wonderful (but very diplomatic) Mr Paterson here is Highland Park. Start there. If you don't like it then probably no Scotch is going to work for you.
Really knows what he is talking about
"sir, im going to ask you one more time, license and registration"
Say hello to the whiskey
Complete beginner…. You aren’t just a beginner you are a complete beginner… know your place.
The left handed phrases are so ingrained in their lives…
Laphroig is the best for a beginner! If they don’t like that, they just need to stick to bourbon and enjoy popsicles with Granpa!
If you want an intro to s touch, try a lagavulin And then try a delwhinnie. One is a main body, and the other is a dessert. And that's all you need to know. Everything else is in between to suit your palate. Just do not try blended scotch of any kind. That's only good as an expensive pain thinner😂
