Become a Copy Cat KING like your good buddy Uncle Ben Eller! I STOLE this rad shred picking sequence from Jake E. Lee's Bark at the Moon (Ozzy Osbourne) solo and disguised it just enough that you'd never know.... ever good artist is a thief, and I'm here to show you how to do it! This is an excellent way to get more mileage out of everything you learn and to start finding your own voice on the guitar. I'll show you the original, the variations I made, the alternate picking techniques you need to play it, then how to flip it and reverse it Missy Elliot style for MAXIMUM GAINS! Lets go!
Gear:
Jackson American Series SL2 HT Soloist (amazing!!!!)
Synergy Soldano SLO
UA OX
What player do you rip off, copy, and steal from the most?! Let me know in the comments!
If stealing from Jake is good enough for Sharon and Ozzy it's surely good enough for us plebes xD
This!
Top Comment.
Indeed
Glad it's all dsx
Ouch lol.
Sir Laurence Olivier once said: "If you're going to steal, steal from the best." Well played, sir!!
Jake E. Lee is awesome. So many times at certain points in my life, I posited that he was my favorite Ozzy guitarist, for a myriad of reasons. There's just... "something" there.
Thanks, Uncy Bang!
His solos are all great little compositions, played with 🔥 🔥 🔥
One of my friends older brothers was in a band back in the mid 80's. I remember going over there one night and he was in the basement playing Bark at the Moon, solo and all. He had a Marshall stack and an Ibanez Destroyer. I was hooked. I got a guitar a week later!
I just ordered a new guitar, thinking, "This will be the last one I ever buy, I mean it this time"... and then you showed us that Jackson.
We always “mean” it when justifying it to ourselves and our better half’s. Mine asks me how many guitars do you need ? First of all needing ain’t got nothing to do with it . Secondly the answer is 1 more, 1 more guitar or pedal or amp 😊
😂. We all know the struggle. I'm eying several different guitars right now.
Totes. The closeup of the headstock , it looks like it could a part of a stealth fighter
Hey Ben! Such an inspiring dude you are. 😊😊
Just made a solo for a contest with your lesson.
Jake is da man!🎸🎸🎸
Good for you, man! No gig or audition will test you like having to impress a room full of other hot players and judges. Win or lose, stand tall for having the cajones to claim you're the best and bring it to the battle!
Been on a major Jake E. Lee vibe recently and just started learning bark at the moon solo from your video so this is perfect timing!
QQ ben - have you heard any Michael Schenker before? He was a huge influence on randy rhoads and all the guys from megadeth, and metallica.
Would recommend listening to "Into the Arena" for some major cool 80s electric guitar lead if not!
Thanks bud
Michael Schenker said his favorite player was Eddie . "I love Eddie's playing, you know, he's for me, by far the best guitar player. And even though I wasn't listening to music, you could never get away [from] hearing [it] anywhere... And so really, he was fascinating. I mean, he's my favorite guitar player."
@@2216sammy Awesome!
Once I heard someone on a panel at an convention talk about borrowing from others as an artist. He called it "The Great Karmatic Wheel of Borrowing Shit™", and to this day I use that phrase.
Awesome!!! Jake’s one of my favorite guitarist of all time being from the 80s I remember all those shredders like Warren Demartini George Lynch ect doing those huge stretches I remember tripping when I saw Jake live using the side of his thumb he took it to a whole new level no one else was doing that I thought it was brilliant imo!!
Yes, the new SL2! Excited to see EMGs and SS frets included! How about that lambo orange color option? Made my toe curl up into my boot. Thanks for the excellent content Uncle Ben!
It’s so sick!!! That orange looks great, too.
The title of this video would also be a good title for Ozzy Osbourne's autobiography.
Ooooof
Randy will always be my favourite Ozzy guitarist but Jake is a very close second. Over all my favourites are in order: EVH, Randy, Jake, Viv Campbell (Dio era), Jason Becker, George Lynch, everyone else!
No Tony?!?!? Cripes, he'd have to glue his middle finger back on to flip you off for that one. ;)
@@Jafromobile lol but yeah he's up there too. 🤘😎🤘
"Good artists borrow, great artists steal".
In case anyone was wondering, this quote is widely attributed to Pablo Picasso.
A man who was never called an asshole.
@@KLBriggs71 But he was only 5'3"
@@SteveFye yes, but girls could not resist the stare.
@@KLBriggs71 you mean the ones that turned the color of an avocado?
Jake is one of my all-time favorite guitarists! Thanks for the lesson!
Thanks for watching!
Another great video Uncle Ben! When I struggle with licks like this I find sitting on my hands for 5 minutes before playing to be helpful. Then it feels like it's someone else that sucks at guitar.
Nice instructions and guitar!
If you give the person credit you didnt steal you're just sharing it. Good stuff Uncle Ben
I love how consistent you’re with “more better” 😂
What about some lessons about Jake songs like:
Shot in the dark
Spiders
Never
Waiting for darkness
Those songs are amazing and there is almost any video about them in RUclips, some of those riffs are hard (example Never). Even a video with all those songs with just the more iconic parts. 😊
Challenge accepted!
This is the most informative self-reported theft I've ever seen in my life! Granted I've only seen one but that's not what matters! Yay for learning!
I like it when you put out a video on stuff I'm already ripping off.
Thanks Uncle Ben! 🤘
Great advice on turning those licks and going the other way. I’ve been trying that and have trouble repeating the pattern but I’m working on it!
You should just have Jackson build a Ben Eller and call it a day. They rule.
Such a simple but good idea! 👌
Jake was the guy in LA in the early eighties. Fantastic guitar player!!!
Jake is one of my top guitar heros. My favorite is his work in Badlands
Thanks for the lesson, Uncle Ben
Dammit, I was doing fine with my alternate picking until you brought it to my attention 😆 Thanks for the exercises being played at grandpa speed. I'm way older than a stepdad.
Uncle Ben bringing the homework! 👍
Not only am i jealous of your guitars, i am jealous of your step dad status...........sorry i mean your guitar playing.
Great video! All music is stolen. Take bits from all your favorite stuff and boom, you have a new thing. I personally like when people can hear the inspirations. Means I got close to my heroes!
BEN, make more Jake E Lee lessons and Uli Roth Arpeggio lessons
What is this, tablature for ants!?! Jk great as always!
Hahaha
Good guitarists borrow… great guitarists steal. You’re a great guitarist uncle Ben! 👍
My younger Uncle Ben teaching me again how to shred! Is the glowing candle on the desk your secret sauce to rocking?
Yes it is!
Please do make a dedicated video on the new Jackson! There are so few videos on it right now.
same lick in Vinnie Moore - Shadows of Yesterday
*UNCLE BEN!*
Howdy
Question for you Ben: as a guy who loves 80s rock/metal primarily, would you recommend the new soloist or the virtuoso? I do already have a Jackson SL3 Pro Series. Thanks!
Who hasn't stolen from Jake? Sharron...
Would love it if you could do a How To play Good Mourning/Black Friday. Thanks in advance!
You're right. Nobody is writing pure unadulterated licks, they all come from somewhere.
Totally random question uncle Ben. Where are you from? Saw some old picks of some friends and acquaintances and you were in the pic, true story.
No way?!?! I’m from East Tennessee.
Right now I'm in my Andy Timmons era, so yeah, it's lots of Danger Danger solos and riffs recently 😛
New soloist hell ya how you like it uncle Ben?
It is SO SICK!!! Fixed bridge super Strats are my love language. Killer neck, great fretwork…. Love it.
@@BenEller one day I’ll get one of these California made soloists 💯👊🏻
Never seen a hardtail soloist before. Id love a hardtail version of my Horus.
@@sole__doubtthis is the first one they’ve ever done!
Music IS communication and like all communication the language used is shared. We can't get around saying something that hasn't been said before in some way. Well, I've tried and it requires using a different "language." The problem there I discovered is that all of the potential good ones are pretty much in use and have been for a very long time.
When you think about it, it's a repeated pattern going up a scale.
I mean... it's not like a short repeated sequence of notes is owned by anyone.
It just happens you heard Jake play it first.
Sick
Hey Ben got a question. I like both a Fender type neck and Jackson. Which do you suggest as far as feel Charvel SD/SoCal neck or Charvel DK24 type neck?
I know this is mostly just the 80 Shredder. But holy hell you got to give catnip High by lost Symphony a try
I'm from Illinois and one more thing I forgot lost Symphony is the band dedicated to Old School Shred what the violinist from Trans-Siberian Orchestra
That's with
4:48 Did you just “call-it-a-sack?”
Sumbaddy up and up lied to ya, Ben! Jackson USA been done made plenty of them hardtail SL2Hs over these them years. But this'uns a beaut fer shur!
So, can you keep the guitar or do they want it back after you review it?😊
I'm scared Uncle Ben.
I have wished that Jackson would do a production model like that for 30 years right down to the color?
Is the sun gonna melt us all soon or something?
All kidding aside it is a little shocking that they made one just like I wanted forever.
you had 666 likes, so I hit thumbs up to save your eternal soul Uncle Ben!!
To be fair... Jake plays covers ALL THE TIME!
Whats better the new American series Jackson or an Ibanez prestige
Jake has become my second favorite guitarist over the years. Randy, Jake, Johnson, Beck, Gilmour, etc...
OH BOY! You're in trouble now. Jake n The Red Cartel are coming for you. LOL 😂
So soothing at step dad speed
It's ok that we borrow ideas from Jake , at least we give him the credit !!
Somehow, I think Jake E Lee would approve of this and maybe even share some of the things he's creatively ripped off himself.
Good artists borrow, great artists steal.
Oo-Rah
Ozzy stole from Jake for years.
Oooof
There is a difference in stealing(just doing the exact same thing) and being inspired by someone's licks and making it your own. If I was a famous or at least a good guitar player and people just copied my work and not give it their own twist, I would be slightly disappointed.
Bro can you do something like this in the style of marty freidman
Something that we can play to a metronome like this one but not the 2 strings apreggios fast part in tornado of souls something else i wanna learn in marty style where i can practice to a metronome 😊
LOVE this idea. I’m on it. Thanks!!
@@BenEller thank you so much 😊
@@BenEller it feels great when you replied im a big fan of you i live very far away from your country in Maldives 😊
Jake E Lee, Randy, EVH, Vivian Campbell are my go to for stealing killer licks and ideas.
Michelangelo stole and ripped off techniques from other people he admired. What's the difference?
Love me some Jake e Lee and love me some Jackson. My mom says hi btw.
dont wanna be that guy, but this is not the weekend :D great video nonetheless
Haha ya got me there
That stolen' lick is still played at half speed in compare to the original. So still step dad speed for Jake;)
Why are we calling this a 'lick'? This is a minor pentatonic sequence. While I always enjoy the embedded 'Easter egg' humor in all these videos, not sure calling a sequence a lick was meant as humor...? I think there was a ton of potential education missed here, since we were actually here. This is a perfect exercise for those that are stuck within the 1st position minor pentatonic 'horizontal' box, since it starts helping them to see the scale continue vertically. Also, specifically pointing out why this is a sequence - which lends to creating your own sequences. Always look forward to your videos Ben. ♥
It’s all A Minor scale, though, not pentatonic. Hope you shred it!!
Honestly, its not stealing to me… it was bound to be written again someday by someone who hasnt heard it and changing it just makes it that much more yours
It would have been hilarious if you'd gone at stepdad speed the whole video, and made everyone wait for video 2.
Jake has always been my favorite Ozzy guitarist!
maybe I'm an idiot but I don't hear this part in Bark at the Moon at all
Do you do giveaways I would love to win your white soloist 😂 that be amazing 🤩
Step Dad Speed = Mike Oldfield
I've had a few guitars with active EMGs and I've always loved them.
I believe it's "I stoled" or "I stealed". C'mon man!
'Stolt' is the technical term.
I continue to steal from Randy Rhoads
Jake E. Lee wrote alot of great guitar parts. Just look at killer of Giants!
Its minor but locrian. AT THE SAME TIME! then.... what the?
Great song!
Hell half my licks are stolen from Jake E Lee lol
If anyone stole any of this music from Jake, it was Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. If anyone knows of a way to pay him back somehow, let us know.
If you stole the lick, you should post the Guitar Pro tab for free :-)
How dare you! You thief! Ha. Nice Jackson, but depending on how much you play it, it's gonna get all kinds of shiny where your pick passes the high E and where your palm rubs the body. I'm sure this isn't new to you, but my satin PRS is all kinds of shiny. The unfortunate thing that happens with satin finishes. Cheers!
I find your version more better!
... In my very best Vincent Price voice with lots of reverb and delay...Oh, fearless Guitar Hero, howl ye with frustrated anguish to the night! Behold, your bag of trickery is being greedily and thoroughly pillfered by myself...hahahahahah a, AAAAHHHAAAHHAAAAHAAAAAAAAA!!!
one big tip i can give for any aspiring player, is to always learn songs by ear. and if you cant, you need to delve into ear training. whats going to occur, is while you're learning songs by ear.. you're going to run into your own ideas, inspired in the same style as what you're learning. creating a riff in that guitar players style, thats partially your own.
Gary Moore said Jake e Lee was ozzy’s. Best guitarist
My solos are completely aimless nonsense, because nobody can claim to own random minor pentatonic noodling
i steal everything from Jake E Lee.
Who agrees this is what Jake would've done if he'd thought of it? And if Jake starts doing it, he will indeed have stolen from the best.
The new Jackson guitars require setup and are very poorly finished. You were just lucky ;)
Man that’s not been my experience at all! All 3 of mine have been killer.
Uncle benny Bob. Very cool stuff (As always)
Gee Wiz This one has more up's and down's & mood changes,
Than my mean ol' wife; when she's hot-flashin'.
(Ah I remember when her being hot? meant something entirely different .. but I digress)
when I was in bands, back.in the olden days, When we'd snag a lick we had heard.
Tweaked it a bit and used it.
We called that. Borrowing with Benefits. LOL
What is stealing in the context of guitar playing anyway? Even such things as palm mutes, pinch harmonics, tapping, legato, bending were done by somebody someday first and others copied it. And now it's part of the basic skillset of guitar playing as a whole.
In other words, play different variations
Emg sexually active pickups 🤣
