I heard there were 10 episodes written for season 2. The writers and showrunner had every intention to stay with the same formula in season length like with season 1, but the studio insisted on 8 episodes. And because this decision happened during the writers strike, the writers could not go back and restructure the episodes that would fit better with this studio demand and shift things for a proper season finale and season 3 premiere
