    Hi and thanks for the video. I'm just about to sow some San Marzano seeds, because somehow I ran out of seeds and didn't realise so I ordered some which are arriving today hopefully. I subbed btw. I am glad to find a chef who grows his tomatoes and veg. I always said that when I die, all I want from God when I get to heaven is a big kitchen, with a big garden outside so I can grow and cook for ever. Well, I can't think of a better way to spend eternity. I'm not a chef, but I cook a lot. I just made a fresh batch of Strawberry Jam, and when you taste homemade you don't want the store bought stuff any more. Looking forwards to learning some cooking skills from you too. God bless X

    Hi ..new here...I'm in Salley,SC...midlands. Love your raised beds...what size are they? Are they red cedar? I need raised beds too and can't afford them..I'm borderline disabled..not quite in wheelchair but walk with cane...I gotta do something to help me in the garden. Wish I had beds like yours.

      Thank you for watching Diane. I am sorry for all your troubles. Most of the beds are 2 foot high. They are 8 feet long by 4 feet wide. That way we can reach in 2 feet on both sides. They are made out of pine and stained with a natural stain which is why they look like cedar.
      You could check into local community colleges or agricultural colleges in your area. You could offer your land for them to cultivate in exchange for some of the vegetables. It never hurts to ask. They may be able to help you.

    Where do you get your seeds for the SanMarzanos? And does sandy loam have any other name?

    • @SWISHERHOMESTEAD
      @SWISHERHOMESTEAD  Год назад +2

      Well the SanMarzanos are from Burpee organic. You will have to go to there Website. The sandy loam. You can make your self if you need a small batch which is 3 bags sand to 1 bag organic topsoil 1 bag black cow. Or your you can get it from your local landscaping supply by yard. Do ask if they have had it tested to be safe. There you go hope this helps you out. Have a great day. God bless

    How did your tomatoes do? Did you end up with any issues?

      Fantastic! We got about 24 jars of sauce from San Marzano’s 15 jars of tomato juice from the Romas. I was out every day going over them going out 2 times a week at night looking for horn worms 🐛.

    Are San Marzano tomatoes the best? These tomatoes have a huge reputation and boast a Protected Designation of Origin status (DOP, or sometimes written as PDO - Denominazione d'Origine Protetta) which specifies the precise cultivar, processing method and region in which the tomatoes can be grown.

      Thanks for asking. San Mariano’s are used for making tomato, pizza sauce there sweet meaty texture what makes them so good. Unlike Roma tomatoes that are seedy not a lot of meat. Which takes more to make sauce. But can be use as an alternative substitute it just takes more work. We are working on crossing to make an easier to grow tomato for sauce and canning. Thanks for stopping by we really appreciate it.
