people act like learning to mix on youtube is some living hell but in actuality we literally the best resources and experts in the world at our fingertips.
Not just the best compressor plugin ever, but the best compression tutorial ever! I'm just blown away! This is the introduction to ear training and compression I've always dreamed of finding. The only thing is that my ears start screaming for iZotope's Mouth De-Click plugin. The compression on the VO is a little heavy, and all those mouth noises really start jumping out at me when I'm listening so closely to the nuances. Don't get me wrong. I'm loving that I'm noticing a dramatic improvement in my ability to pick up subtleties after just two of Dan's videos. The downside is that I can no longer tune out the horrible sounds of the kid watching TV shows about tow truck drivers on his cell phone speakers while chomping chips with his mouth open 4 feet away from me while I'm trying to watch this.
Such a well explained tutorial. As much as we have to trust our ears, the graphical interface of the Pro C2 definitely helps in understanding what’s happening to the sound.
This kind of videos is finally what i need, it will be really cool if the company make videos in spanish, as far as i know there is not much information at this level on spanish videos about the same topics
Hey, great video isn't it? Quick question: how does he know Pro-C's guess when he hits the auto-gain button at 7:35? He says is 2dB but I can't see it anywhere.
At 0:39 using test sine wave you can see that (1) the signal still exceeds threshold after attack spike and (2) does not recover fully after release stage. Why it's happening?
he is using the quick changes in volume to show how a compressor is slow to react to dynamics in sound, and how the attack and release settings affect the sharp transients and quick changes in volume
that is what the threshold setting does, maybe adjust the knee function so it has a hard knee and doesnt gradually compress as it reaches the threshold. maybe try a limiter?
@@guyincognito3231 Thanks, I'm honestly not sure what the problem was when I was working on this last year, I don't think I ever really figured it out, lol. But lately when using compression I haven't had any problems, so, whatever it was must have worked itself out. Compression is such a simple concept, makes loud stuff quieter, but the implementations and number of options in these plugins is what makes it complicated.
ha :D i already know what you'll do. sidechain the compressor so it only reacts so hard to low to mid-content, then use a more subtle setting for the high frequencies. or you'll do some mid-side-thing
it´s begeners part 2, so lets do this way, for most advanced the goal is to place each instrument in the 3D space and this can be done in lots of different ways and use to be material dependent style and genre of courses
well, Dan, the "Future" often evokes the 80s or maybe that's because most of the future (oftentimes more dystopian than not) are set after humanity got stagnated even with all the technological progression in the 80s lol.
With this narration i can even watch boring tutorial for hour and this one is interesting and makes good impression of fabfilter plugins
Best compression explanation. Thank you!

"The compression brings us Back to the Future, at least to the 1980s..."
I see what you did there 😁
I’m the worst when it comes to stealing software, but with the great tutorials and student discount I was happy to give them my money.
Wub Wilson good point. I wonder what plugin makers have the highest/lowest piracy rates. FabFilter's gotta be one of the lowest.

The sine wave was a really simple and clear way to show that stuff, great stuff as always Dan
Agreed! It was only after the Sine Wave example that I truly understood Release! :)
Really appreciate the precise language in these videos - it's hugely helpful in guiding to the right settings.
the best lessons, the best plugins, the best voice.
Boom. That's Fabfilter for you!
Can you do a video about different types of compressors like variMu, Optical, FET, etc ?

trust me new comers. This is one of the best explanation of Compression you can find on YT.
I always learn something from your videos, great stuff.
I agree, best video on compression yet. You have a great voice also. Thanks
Best compression tutorial in the world. Thanks
Fantastic, in depth guide to compression. Every single detail explained in an easy manner. Thank you very much for your effort!
Yes friend
Many thanks for your videos and the clear explanations given by Dan
Much learning for me ... thanks Dan !
Wonderful explanation, audible examples! Even my old ears can hear it. Many thanks…

Fab-tastic! This not only helped me use C2 better, but all compressors. Thank you. On to part 3!
Great video! Thank you! The track used in this video was very pleasant to listen to as well 😊
Dan’s the goat 💯
Amazing video, thank you so much for this!
Very useful! Thanks.
great explanation, this will help many people. 💪🏼
Very helpful tutorial on kick drum compression God bless you
Truly excellent.
i wish you would cover voice overs for guides like this
Excellent as ever.
Oh my god this makes so much sense.
Finally i understand how to sharpen my kicks!
7:46 The vocal lead to the Men in Black theme song go brilliantly with this... "Here come the men in black..."
great stuff
Aww man, these cliff hangers!! :D
Thank you!

He hears that "Pro-C2 guesses a couple of dBs off" and tweaks it until it sounds right. The "a couple of dBs" is what he's hearing.
@@kisaragi-hiu Thank you

man TIL the shape of the release curve is kind of a big deal, and not assignable on most compressors
THANK YOU!!
You are a saint
Where can i find the song ?
I still can not figure out to have the compressor only trigger on the peaks over a certain db and leave everything else alone.

I use fabfilter so much I forgot I even have waves.
would this instance be consider limiting because your ratio is at infinity?
Why the hell instead of my drums expanding they become shorter, like what
Too slow release?
Didn't know Fabfilter did ASMR
Hmm... at least now I know the names of what I don't understand...

yeah, but i know dan worral's tutorials and he NEVER misses out on an opportunity to show off a bunch of mid/side magic ;)

Did not understand anything
