Please note the plants at his feet are clearly in the six-winged shape of the Seraph. This was no coincidence. Bellini's knowledge of plant anatomy is well-documented. The distant citadels may represent the conflict between the German Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire and Vatican that continued through his youth. Assisi was on the border between these two powerful forces and Francis was imprisoned as a result of this conflict. If we knew who commissioned this painting we wold know a lot more about why the traditional symbols were so understated. You can see in the detail why Durer was such a big fan.
that's a really hard question... but maybe one of his most famous? like "The Persistence of Memory" or "Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening" or any really, haha, it's really hard for me to choose!!
Thank you: this was really interesting and very kind of you. Or course, there would be some copyright fees. That's something we would be very happy to do if we could demonstrate that such productions are really useful to a lot of people (that's what happened with Rodin for instance but can we replicate this?). So, are there some websites that art lovers like you trust to assess the quality of web productions? Finding them on RUclips is not easy.
ArtSleuth videos are incredible!
Great idea! Why paintings do you like the most?
Thnak you. This is actually a preview of the final version of the series. We will look for partners to try to make it widely available.
