Richard Gene The Fishing Machine Thank you ! You whats funny, i’ve hooked musky before while fishing for catfish with bluegill, with much stronger tackle, but they always cut my leader. I was expecting to see him still holding onto the crappie! I had this happen to me once with a 10 inch largemouth. The muskie wasnt even hooked, but he held on to the fish for 10 minutes and as soon as he saw my net he just opened up his mouth and spit the bass out and jetted. The bass had some teeth marks in it but was still alive, missing a hand full of scales. I wish gopro was a thing back then... Great vid!
Beautiful fish. I caught one slightly smaller same "clear" (species name) muskie on a live minnow. My friend complained that we had to stop to buy minnows but I had been skunked on that lake before so I insisted. When we were finally fishing I reached for the minnow bucket he scoffed and said "check out my huge swimbait, I'm going for muskie". Great job! That's why I fish for nearly everything with ultralight gear. For me, horsing in a fish with a big rod and heavy test is no challenge, and not sporting. I caught a thirty-five pound carp with four pound test and and an ultralight rod. Line test records are usually species specific, but I know some fish just above a hundred pounds have been caught of the same rig I use. The record for a shark on an ultralight rod with four pound test used to be ninety-eight pounds, but that was a lot of years ago, so I suspect the record has changed more than once. Hooking fish is the easy part. For me, sport means how you bring them in after you hook them, and you did a fantastic job You have a new subscriber.
thanks for the great comment! I think you will like my rod reviews!! I constantly criticize rods for being too stiff and removing the joy of playing the fish. Especially the catfish guys use gear that is without exaggeration too much for the average shark! In general people overestimate the power of a fish, especially musky is severely overrated. My rod was never overloaded with this fish, I was only afraid about the line. I find carp much more difficult to fight because it goes in the snags immediately. That huge carp u got must have been in wide open water. I got a few 30s and 3 x 41 pounders carp and they are beasts and take forever to get tired! See you around sir!
I caught a 28 inch 7 lb 2 oz Northern Pike on 1/64 trout magnet tipped with a tiny minnow on 4 lb. Line on my ultralight rod and reel. In 2017 while fishing Glendale lake Pennsylvania. ✌😎 DOCK FISHING.
@@ifishcatfish it was built like a barrel. I forgot to mention that my buddy netted it for me because the jig wasn't in a safe place of the mouth. It cut the line while thrashing in the net.
This video should be a required watch in ultralight fishing courses lol 🤣. Very easy to play bass with heavy gear which is why I went downsize finesse with them. I also caught more fish over the winter than a lot of people. I was in Dallas and just moved to outside of Seattle. Major fishing pressure in Dallas and finesse pays off bigtime. I don't have a boat so I was a pond hopper.
Bass fishing with bass gear is a turnoff for me. From the hookset the fish is out of the water and then they just ski the poor thing to the boat. It never got a chance to fight. But accidental 1 lb bass on my UL while crappie fishing is just a riot.
I don't know a better rod for float fishing. Makes u enjoy every catch. Makes u enjoy fishing even when u don't catch. I have to touch it to believe it. Shame u have to pay $30 for whipping, but I would still get it. I own 6 of them now, all sizes from 6 to 9 foot.
i_fish thank you I think I will order. Also thank you for you info on the presso travel rods. I didn’t order them because of what you said about them, so I’m going to order the 7 and 8 ft rods. Thank you
thanks buddy. Yeah, i am always very careful with trophy fish, even carp. I try to keep them away from dry carpet and mostly on rubber, which is more slippery
6lb line with a 1/64oz jig. what a fight! I myself was able to catch an 18in catfish on 4lb line using 1 inch minnows, not as impressive as yours, but this kind of fight is really fun.
adjutant i have to tell you, from the get go i felt that fish has not chance, except to cut the line with teeth. I even tild the guy whi was helping me. I think the fight if a musky is incredibly exaggerated. If i target them inwould fish with 8 lb mono but metal leader :). Thank for dropping a comment, my friend! Hope to see u around!
I can't believe that an experienced fisherman like you doesn't know how to handle one of those fish, you're very good at what you do and I like it but that muskie spent a lot of time out of the water
that was in May - look at my clothes.. It recovered right away. Musky anglers are crazy lunatics that need contact with reality. They never catch nothing, just move around and spook everyone else's fish bombing the water with their giant lures. And when someone else catches a musky without even trying, they line up to tell u everything you did wrong. Next time a catch a musky, if its legal size, im gona take it home and eat it. Then nobody can criticize my release.
4 lb line? I bet this line is thinnner that your 4 lb. I don't care bout pounds.. only diameter. I keep the diameter under 0.20mm, so i can cast well. This one is 0.18mm.
I don't even look at what the box says. I need thin line so i can cast far. People fishing with me are always shocked how far I can cast a trout magnet without any other weight. Seaguar Red Label is my favorite line for jigging
nice work. you got very lucky not having any obstructions and the ability to be mobile in the fight.. say if you had been fishing without a boat from the bank and you got that fish... that sucker would have been gonzo as soon as it made that first run. \
I agree with every thing you said, but you missed one important piece of luck as well. How about catching the whole thing on camera? Imagine I didn't have the camera on and then I told this story to people. Exactly how many would have believed me???
@@ifishcatfishThat was a National Geographic caliber moment and you were lucky enough to have that camera rolling to catch that happening on film.. And then I guess either the hook tore out of the crappie and buried in the muskie's mouth or the crappie was lip hooked and it set that way. Either way you will never have that happen to you again. In fresh water there aren't many predators that will hit and eat a hooked fish..Muskie catfish and pike are the only river fish that can do that kind of damage that fast. Muskie will charge and eat your catch. they are my favorite fish to catch.. I saw a 20 kilo flat head catfish come up and destroy a baby duck swimming in the Monongehela river here in Pittsburgh where i live now. I unfortunately didn't have a camera when that duck was slurped into the depths. no that moment was just for me. And you have the video and it's public. I guess that's why all the well established youtube fisherman never stop filming. The more places and time you film the better... Can't wait for your next video. NEVER STOP FISHING.
the crappie mouth is very soft. I think during the first run the force was strong enough that the hook tore off the crappie mouth and snagged the musky mouth on the way out. And then, to make this 1 in a million, the hook grabs the mouth at the very corner, so the musky teeth cant touch the line. If those teeth made any contact with that 6 lb mono, it would be game over. Flatheads are my favorite catfish, a real predator, not a scavenger like the other catfish species.. It is also intelligent enough to protect it's young. I respect that.
@@ifishcatfish that hook was so small and the wire was so thin... you used the heck out of the drag during that fight... I saw a few moments that I would have thought I was going to lose that fish.. man i bet you got a nice adrenaline shot when you first realized what was happening.
Congratulations on that catch! Maybe those guys throwing giant Medusa and swimbaits all day without a bite should watch this? I always fish those jigs on 2lb and have lost a couple of trout to opportunistic pike, perhaps I should move up to 6lb and give myself a fighting chance?
u can hear me in the video say too, but i told the guy helping me that this muskee has no hope of breaking my 6 lb line with strength. The only hope it has is cut line with teeth. But with this soft rod and amazing drag - no way he can break me off with strength. I fish for carp and catfish, if u've seen my channel, and i find muskee and pike to be quite underwhelming in terms of strength and stamina, compared to carp and catfish. That said, if the line goes through the teeth, u can upgrade from 2 lb to 20 lb, and it wont matter. I got muskees on my bluegill while fishing for big catfish a few times, and they cut through some pretty thick leaders. But this one got hooked the right way, and thats just luck : )
Soo.....this is you?! I saw this video a couple of years ago but really had no clue who it was. Just an one off video. Saw this on your channel. Whoa - you use 6lbs with a troutmagnet? I'm surprised that you even get any distance casting it. I only use 2 lbs on troutmagnets given how light it is.

I caught a 28 inch 7 lb 2 oz Northern Pike on 1/64 trout magnet tipped with a tiny minnow on 4 lb. Line on my ultralight rod and reel. In 2017 while fishing Glendale lake Pennsylvania. ✌😎 DOCK FISHING.
u trying to beat me now??
Mine was temporarily tipped with a crappie : )
7 lb is a lot for 28 inch fish, must have been fat..
@@ifishcatfish it was built like a barrel. I forgot to mention that my buddy netted it for me because the jig wasn't in a safe place of the mouth. It cut the line while thrashing in the net.
its so much fun to go after big bass with ultralight tackle. and when you hook a muskie or pike?? even better.
intense af!! nice video. where was this filmed?
that was one hell of a fight
Nice catch. I caught a big flathead catfish on a trout magnet.
i wish this lake had FH instead of channel cats. I don't know why DNR keeps stocking it with channel cats.
@@ifishcatfish Man you nailed it exactly
Amazing battle. Tremendous video!
that's always a nice surprise.
Is it worth buying the presso 8 ft for 105. I can only find it online with 30 dollar shipping.
Thank you
Great day for you. Good that you handle the fish with care :)
I came here from your recent video.
thanks buddy. Yeah, i am always very careful with trophy fish, even carp. I try to keep them away from dry carpet and mostly on rubber, which is more slippery
Nice catch on the Ultralight Gear! We don't have those on the coast of Southeastern North Carolina.
You sir are a legend Perfect
Lol - OK, that's a first.. : )
If some body told me that small lure means small Fish... I'll show them your movie Victor!!! AWESOME!
:)
That was impressive, very nice.
Whoa! What a nice surprise catch!
thanks for checking my vids brother : )
Quite a day of Catchin'!! That is one Whoppa of a Pike on the UL!!
Good job. I fish trout magnets all the time. You will have five crappies before end of day. Hahaha
i believe trout magnets are a special bait. I really do. I bought boxes of them.
Amazing catch. Way to have the patience to get him in.
This is very crazy, Never knew you could get a pike on trout magnets!
Musky
6lb line with a 1/64oz jig. what a fight! I myself was able to catch an 18in catfish on 4lb line using 1 inch minnows, not as impressive as yours, but this kind of fight is really fun.
adjutant i have to tell you, from the get go i felt that fish has not chance, except to cut the line with teeth. I even tild the guy whi was helping me. I think the fight if a musky is incredibly exaggerated. If i target them inwould fish with 8 lb mono but metal leader :). Thank for dropping a comment, my friend! Hope to see u around!
Nice catch bro....
i don't know if i will ever get that lucky again : )
Nice Chain Pickerel!
Chain tiger!
You'll remember it forever
Amazing
@@ifishcatfish well said.
Greetings from Greece.!!
thanks, colega!
I never go over 4lbs love fighting big fish with my ultra lite set up
4 lb line? I bet this line is thinnner that your 4 lb. I don't care bout pounds.. only diameter. I keep the diameter under 0.20mm, so i can cast well. This one is 0.18mm.
@@ifishcatfish this is realistic fishing I go by what the box says and how smooth my casts feel
@@ifishcatfish you are absolutely right. keep the great content coming mate
Top video brother !!! 🎥
Ultralight is the best 🔥🎣
How big this rod boss?
8’ daiwa presso UL. I have a review of this rod, if u search my channel
Soo.....this is you?! I saw this video a couple of years ago but really had no clue who it was. Just an one off video. Saw this on your channel. Whoa - you use 6lbs with a troutmagnet? I'm surprised that you even get any distance casting it. I only use 2 lbs on troutmagnets given how light it is.
this one is with a float though.. : ) Even today i use 6 lb on the float. And leader is 6 lb too.
@@ifishcatfish Ahh.....that makes sense then. Man, I can't imagine catching anything that big with a trout magnet. I'd bet it is a record, really. 40 inches!! I would have just mounted that fish and retired from fishing....LOL!! :)
i dont know about retiring, but would have mounted it if i knew how. It will probably remain my most amazing catch
“We’re gonna need a bigger boat.”
🤣
amazing catch bro
thanks bud
Fight was insane!
Tunning in💪😎👍
What lake is this? Nice video!
Bruce Morris thanks. Shabona. Just came back from it. Super tough this year. Maybe its just me having a bad year
i_fish thanks for getting back to me. I never been to Shabonna. Although I’ve been meaning to do so. Looks beautiful. I’ll be sure to get there before the season ends. It’s been raining like crazy. Great videos. 💪😎
That was crazy !!!!
That was a TANK! 👍👍👊👊👏👏
great job on landing a muskie on ultralight gear.
thanks for taking the time to drop a line. These things mean a lot to the people who post the videos
i was researching for a new catfishing reel when i came across your channel. really like your reviews, in-depth and learned a lot. really appreciate what you do. looking forward to watching them all and keep them coming.
Michael Search thanks. If u ever have any questions on tackle i have reviewed, i am happy to talk about it.
wow super nice one man
That’s crazy!
Epic catch!
I've caught alot of different species on trout.magnets but never a musky. Good stuff
i got lucky twice. Once that the teeth never touched the line, and second time to capture all of this on video. Without the camera it would be a worthless fishing story that nobody would believe..
I agree 100 percent. It's amazing them teeth didnt cut your line. I love having my channel cause I have proof of so many things that people never would believe if I told them. Keep up the good work
nice job
What was that guy doing with his net? 😆
the only thing he could do is cut my line with the net or with his trolling motor
well done! I'm pretty I would have lost him, good patience!
I got all kinds of lucky. If his teeth came in any kind of contact with that 6 lb line, he would be gone. I have had muskee while catfishing and they cut the leader both times, that was much thicker.. Thanks for the comment, brother!
