I'll say this for Ashleigh Ball: Playing two different characters in the same show takes talent and good range. But to have one of your characters mimicking the other without accidentally slipping into the character she's mimicking, who you also do the voice for? That has to be a whole different level of difficult.
Okay, yes. Now let's have one actress play a male character imitating another actor's male character and that imitation getting mixed-up in-universe with another other actor's male character. Now *that* takes skill. :)
If that confuses you, here's context: Sharon Mann (the actress) plays Jeremie Belpois (male character) who sometimes imitates Jim Morales (David Gasman's male character) which gets mixed-up in-universe with Jean-Pierre Delmas (Alan Wenger (another other actor)'s male character) in the show Code Lyoko. :)

Idk.... I think Hoof n Mouth is a much worse nickname. I mean how terrible would it be to get named after a serious deadly illness? It would be like people going, "hey Cancer or what's up Ebola!" That would be a pretty bad name. Especially considering it has to do with something that they likely experienced.

@@Pinkie-Dash I was being more joking about the whole thing. I don't think most people realize that Hoof and Mouth disease in livestock is extremely serious. To such a degree that ALL livestock are exterminated within several miles of a reported case. By USDA law every single animal is to be exterminated immediately and quickly buried or dissposed of by other such approved method. So every single cow, pig, horse, deer ect. will be killed within a determined area from the confirmed case. Likewise, all people are REQUIRED to remain in the quarantine zone for a specific time frame. Everyone outside the zone to a certain distance cannot travel more than so far away. And all animals are monitored.
It's an extremely serious illness. Fortunately, it has been eradicated on the North American continent but there are cases still in South America.
So my comment was in joke, knowing how serious it is, the lack of her name being more prominent is funny.

Am I the ONLY one who liked the scene of Rainbow Dash imitating her friends? Not only does it show off Ashleigh Ball's acting chops, but it also showcases how well Rainbow knows her friends.
I searched that clipped moment several times on YT
I thought it was the only good thing about the episode.
It was the perfect balance of cringey and hilarious, and I'm especially impressed by Ashleigh's ability to play herself playing herself without sounding too on the nose lol

I enjoyed it for the skills involved, yes, but I was still cringing and getting second hand embarrassment because of how hard Rainbow was trying and failing to get a new nickname to catch on.
The real sin here is that this entire episode's plot would've been avoided and/or replaced had the Wonderbolts simply told her that they all have nicknames, therefore is basically tradition to them and nothing she should feel targeted for. Or if they simply weren't jerks and not had given poor Dashie a hurtful nickname which unlocked a painful memory of her fillyhood.

Let us just appreciate how much this show decided to buck existing animation trends, pun unintended. Usually when a character's goals and ambitions are established, they either never get accomplished or do so during the series finale. But Rainbow Dash, whose goal of eventually becoming a part of the Wonderbolts having been established as early as episode 1, finally achieves her lifelong dream not even halfway through the series. The character arc of the Cutie Mark Crusaders is another good example of this.
Also, Rarity opening a boutique in Canterlot, the place she always dreamed of living in, combining her social ambitions with her career-oriented one.
I never thought about that...that is a VERY good point and I want more of it! Plus, it means more developement of the results of said dream or ambition.

This episode actually makes me a little sad. This is a huge moment for Dash, who is my favorite character, and we’ve been waiting six years for her to officially be a Wonderbolt! And instead of it being awesome, she just gets bullied for the whole episode. Yeah, it’s “hazing” or whatever, but how does it build character? All she did was ask to be called something else because that nickname reminds her of bad times. I’m sure if she had been called “Rainbow Trash” even, she would’ve been like “ha, oh yeah!” even if she were embarrassed. And what’s the lesson here? Seriously, what is the lesson? “Get a tougher skin” she did have a tough skin, she asked not to be called that and then was completely ignored. Is the lesson just “sometimes people are jerks so deal with it ‘cause it might actually be okay”? Because that’s dumb. You know what you do when people call you something you don’t want to be called by? Don’t respond to the name. Like if the address you as something rude, act as if you don’t realize they’re talking to you. Make people use the name you want.
Right?? I hate how in the end they made her stick with the nickname, which had childhood trauma(?) behind it, just because "oh that's just how we do things around here :)". That's a TERRIBLE lesson to teach people, what the hay?? It's okay to call people things that trigger awful memories just because you also do the same thing to everyone else... alright. Amazing friendship lesson there (/s)

She didn't ask them to call her something else though. That's why the plot of this episode exists. If she'd said "bullies called me that when I was young can I be called something else?" this whole episode could be avoided

1:12 It is pretty funny how most people outside the Fandom straight up assume that just because they are ponies they are all sunshine and rainbows, soft and polite individuals. When in truth there are a lot of jerks in Equestria. It might be a magical place but it's not exactly Utopia, in fact for the most part I'd say it's a pretty close representation of the real world
Not just the outsiders of the fandom, but the actual dragons in the show too. They think they're namby-pamby ponies when really there's plenty of jerk ponies that would fit nicely in dragon society.

Ah the episode where RD's long awaited childhood dream had finally come true, this episode was really funny especially the parts where RD imitated the other members of the Mane 6, and sure RD was given a crappy nickname that stuck with her for most of her Wonderbolt career, but at least she wasn't the only one with a Nickname.XD

Honestly with the way the Wonderbolts act and treat other ponies, I thought Dash's main plot was her slowly realizing they're all kind of terrible, and choosing to distance herself away from ponies that seem to have no sense of loyalty or honor. I was certain Rainbow Falls was gonna lead to a Broken Pedestal situation, yet they averted that within the episode and Dash just reverted back to hero worship.
Spitfire's nickname being Sh*tfire is now my head canon.
One thing this episode gets VERY right about being in the military? NOBODY has a cool nickname or callsign. In Top Gun, for instance, you have Maverick and Iceman. Sounds awesome, right? Real fighter pilot callsigns will be "Bozo" and "Dipshit"

The more appropriate sin would be: Why must Spike waits for Pinkie Pie to finish her order? Did he really need a full-grown pony to watch over him? Why didn't Spike just run back to the show all by himself?
Well even so, why is he saying to Pinkie Pie in an excited tone about how the show is starting? Shouldn't he sound more impatient and order her to hurry up?

Rainbow Dash suddenly left the scene thereby rudely and abruptly leaving her friends in her living room so that she could frantically search for Rainbow, one of the fastest known clippers, that was apparently captained by an ominously glowing green-eyed and totally not changeling Rose.

This episode is underrated.
Underrated for having a bad moral. The moral of "Just suck it up and deal with the thing that bothers you." They even kind of re-use this bad moral in Yakity-Sax.
This was one of my least favorite episodes, they were treating Dashie so horribly and she kept on saying she didn’t like to be called Crash but they did it anyway. If the show was more realistic, they’d have stopped calling her that when she showed discomfort at it. She wanted to feel welcomed into the Wonderbolts, but calling her Crash really wasn’t very nice.
Though this episode did have its funny moments, it really is one of the weakest episodes in the series. Everyone just seemed out of character, except for Rainbiw Dash who had a realistic reaction to how the Wonderbolts were treating her.
Great video, though! But here’s a missed sin, you forgot the “Care Bears” reference when she said to call her “Care Mare”. That was one of the few scenes in this episode that I liked, because I grew up with Care Bears and I liked the reference.
The origin of the word spitfire as a name for a military craft comes from the Royal Navy's HMS Spitfire, and the first ship with that name was named after a Spanish ship captured by Francis Drake that was nicknamed the Cacafueogo. Which is literally translated as Shitfire. So yep, Spitfire's nickname is almost certainly Shitfire.

This was one of my least favorite episodes in the show. What bothered me the most about this episode was that it’s a terrible message to children. The fact that the bullying victim had to learn a lesson and the bullies got away with it makes this episode terrible. I mean fine, I get that nicknames were a thing for the Wonderbolts, but “Rainbow Crash” was a traumatic name for Rainbow Dash, and Spitfire had to be more considerate with the name she picked. The only compliment I have for this episode is the scene where Rainbow Dash is imitating her friends. I really liked that part.
This is an episode for the adult military bronies. Rude nicknames are a military tradition. Nobody gets a cool nickname.

I'd add a sin for the moral of accepting people making fun of you (with names that link to childhood bullying no less) just because they do it to everyone
I think Rainbow should just have explained that the nickname has some bad history with her cause she was bullied with it as a kid

The real sin that bothers me in this episode will always be that the wonderbolts seem completely uncaring that rainbow is clearly very personally bothered by the nickname. Sure, they all have them, but from the sounds of THEIR nicknames, they didnt also get called that name all their childhood by bullies, yknow? Theyre too specific for that for the most part, and less of a play on their names.
I wouldve much prefered if Rainbow admitted in the end the nickname bothered her so much because ponies used to bully her with it, and it really hits home, and while finding out earlier in the episode that they all get nicknames, she's worried that she would be getting "special treatment" or be less tough if she admitted the name really hurts for different reasons than just that one accident.
It would be a nice lesson in "its okay to ask for 'special treatment' if something really bothers you, and its especially important to clearly communicate why it bothers you to others instead of just taking it because 'everyone is or has' "
