  • HOW TO LOG LIFT | Adam Bishop's Guide To Strongman
    The Guide To Strongman videos on the channel kick off with How To Log Lift. Log events have been a staple of World's Strongest Man and other competitions for decades; it's great to see more people getting into strongman than ever before and with more gyms adding equipment like the log for strongman training, its definitely not going anywhere anytime soon. Hopefully this video will give you all the info you need to know to Log Lift like the best.

    Any chance of a log lift programme? There's loads out there for deadlifts squats ect but no one's done a decent log programme? Also best of luck at Brits. 💪

    Yeah, I made myself a log, from a log, but the log is almost two feet in diameter instead of what seems to be the standard 12', and it makes resting it onto shoulders and chest almost impossible.

    I am a mere 5'10'' and weigh around 164lbs - yet i want to give this a go. It's never too late to get stronger. First things first though: i need to get myself a training log or have one made by a blacksmith. Any suggestions (size of the log [length without the loading sleeves, diameter and gauge of the steel], size of the handles and where to have them placed [what width between the two, how far are they spaced out]).
    I figured it'd be more budget friendly for me to gather all the necessary materials and have a skilled blacksmith make it for me as these things are heavy and it'd be too expensive for me to order them and have them shipped.
    Awesome tutorial, by the way: very nicely explained and carried out. I feel i can attempt it now!

    Hi Adam great in depth video on log pressing. Does the size of a log make a difference in technique and will it hinder me if I use a small log. The gym I go to recently bought a 8 inch log. Weighs about 30kg never used it but I’ll try it on Friday. Deadlift tutorial would be good as your within touching distance of the 1000lb club. Good luck at Britain’s strongest man 👍🏻

    Really informative. If you're doing log for reps at what point do you breathe? When the log is over your head or when you're in the squat?

    Awesome vid. My first ever attempt at these was earlier today. Managed 102.5kg easily but just getting the technique down. I do have to Practice my stability tho. Question - should your feet be in line with the handles?

  • @tomberry9200

    What about the push/power jerk as a 4th option for the press?
    It is slightly more technical than a push press (though less so than a split jerk) and can cut off a good 20% of the lock-out ROM for people who don't have the triceps strength for heavy push press lockouts.
    Thoughts?

  • @Fortress333
    @Fortress333 5 лет назад

    Well, as you are very good at deadlifting (this is an understatement), I would like to know your tips and tricks about this movement, or a 'how to'.
    I have noticed that you have a very narrow foot stance during deadlifting. Some (really big) people have a much wider stance. Brian Shaw comes to mind, and Jerry Pritchett also has a wide stance (and a wide grip). I wonder why you choose such a narrow stance. Is this to put more emphasis on your hamstrings and back? Your stance seems to be much more narrow than hip width.
    I also wonder what programming advice you have to make progress with the deadlift, I mean for lifters who are past the beginner's phase for sure. Maybe address some quality deadlift variants such as wide-grip deadlift, block or deficit pull, axle deadlift, and whether you use RDLs. And what about the trap/hex bar?
    One more question about the deadlift. Is it essential to extend your knees fast when deadlifting? I ask because the bar skips over a few inches of my upper legs as soon as I pass my knees. I recently noticed. The bar is supposed to keep in contact with your legs all the time. The bar definitely keeps in contact with my shins, then skips a bit of leg just above my knee, and from there it is smooth sailing again. I usually have some mild bruising on my shins from deadlifting, a possible indicator of me keeping my shins/knees too far forward too long?
    Sorry to be so long-winded. If you don't have the time to read it or address (some) of it, no worries. Have fun training and best of luck with the upcoming competition.

    Hi Adam, Great video, I've got my first novice comp in May and it's got log!! What assistance work should I be working into my routine to complement the log. Cheers John

    • @adambishopstrongman4471
      @adambishopstrongman4471  5 лет назад +9

      John Marshall make sure you get plenty of volume done on the log press. Don’t be scared to do multiple sets of 5-8 reps with a light weight from the floor each time.
      Assistance work can be as simple as incline DB presses, plenty of tricep work (skullcrushers, dips etc) all performed post the main bulk of your log press session.
