- Roxy Music is an English art rock band formed in 1971 by Bryan Ferry, who became the group's lead vocalist and chief songwriter, and bassist Graham Simpson. The other members are Phil Manzanera (guitar), Andy Mackay (saxophone and oboe) and Paul Thompson (drums and percussion). Former members include Brian Eno (synthesiser and "treatments"), and Eddie Jobson (synthesiser and violin). Although the band took a break from group activities in 1976 and again in 1983, they reunited for a concert tour in 2001, and have toured together intermittently since that time. Despite a 18-year gap between activity Roxy Music never officially split up. Ferry frequently enlisted many Roxy members as session musicians for his solo releases.
:: The Main Thing ::
Look at my hand
There's a soul on fire
You can lead me even higher
The main thing
Everybody knows
When a good thing's gone
You can really turn me on
The main thing
You run through here
With your words of sand
I can nearly understand
The main thing
Bryan Ferry Is The James Bond of Music.
I was just thinking that
Phil Manzanera is a minimalist guitarist. What he doesn't play makes him great! Very under rated player. That always impressed me about him...
Joe N, Yes, he is a minimalist master guitarist. Ever listen to his "Primitive Guitars" album?
I love his intro
100% agreed, his restraint on this song is a big part of why I admire him. On the other hand he can also be incredibly fierce. He's great at both.
Spot on. He's been a huge inspiration for me as a player because he puts the song first. He's got tremendous chops but he doesn't bore you with a million meaningless notes. It all works, it all adds up to a proper summation.
Agreed
Crazy how well this has aged - almost 35 years ago!
showing signs of being a Classic tune maybe
Ca na pas vieillis !!!
I'm a huge RM fan. THIS SONG is one of the best!!
I agree - love that opening! wish the song lasted longer!
YES MY DEAREST FRIEND,!!! We concur!!!!,! ManyThanx From So Cal👍
40 years ago, sounds and looks like tomorrow!
Bryan is the epitome of cool the way he walks onstage !

The legend that was Alan Spenner . Phenomenal 👍👍👍
I am happy to watch this video. Nice memories. I was at this concert at the time and really enjoyed it. I was right under the stage and watching everything closely. I have always liked Roxy Music very much. Especially when they were promoting the AVALON album. And that's not all! This evening they also had a concert by King Crimson:))) SuuuuuPeeeRRR !!!!
Man - you saw Roxy Music and King Crimson too? I am so so jealous!! Love Greg Lake - one of the bet voices in rock ( besides Bryan Ferry that is!)
King Crimson's set at that show was released on video as The Noise: Live at Frejus.
A guy I used to work with was there. His parents took him when he was 12 - he said it literally blew his mind. Unbelievable show by both bands.

This was a tight band. Well done.
Thanks for the post! Just a super cool group. All moving moving just so right!
...oh ya. The one band I listened to in high school in the 70s. They were not the FM radio stuff. The boys listened to KISS.....I listened to them and the Cars. Oh ya, great band live!
Pretty much faultless, can't say any more. Wish I had a time machine to be at this gig 👌
This is one of the last if not the last times the played together-this was I think the last date on the 1982 Tour
@@broceliandeforest7420 Different band members at different times too.
Oh, wow. I had this on video back in the 80s. I wish I had saved all my old tapes from back then. Thanks for uploading!
Unique and timeless
Fucking eargasm
au sommet!!!
...best version ! :)
Superb
Flawless
Hahahaha he slinks on stage like a oil slick....effortless cool !!!
@phosphorescent wave Style
Qué buena canción !!
That's no music that's just hot
Nice Video
That's Andy Newmark on drums.
He makes that gig happen.
The Great Paul Thompson is fantastic as Roxy’s original and main drummer. He also played on Bryan’s solo tours over the 2000’s. Andy Newmark, who got his start at 17 with Sly and the Family Stone, is incomparable. Brings swing and R&B drumming to some of Brian’s greatest touring bands. Here, sitting in with Roxy.
The names Ferry, Bryan Ferry.
RM: Three Penny Opera in 4/4.
in this clip Andy Newmark is on drums
Yea Andy on kit, it all centers around him
fabulous groove
Fonzi Thornton amonst the backing singers. Another effortlessly cool guy.
And Michelle Cobbs, who is beyond cool. Her connection with Ferry on Windswept in concert a few years later is electric.
there is always some doobie calling a world famous musician under rated just to show the rest of us what astute judge of good musicianship he is. We’re not impressed. We can see through you.
Ferry...just this side of slippery cool
THATS A BADD ASS SONG!,!,!!!! Simple Brilliant!!!!!,!, ManyThanx From So Cal!!!!,!!🎶👍😆🍺🍺🌮🌮🌹
Absolute sex on legs. The backup group was grooving!
Andy made the final mix and made this whole concept history!
Who plays keys? Filming director did not put camera for a second on keyboards … !?
Firstly: This is Andy Newmark on drums and Alan Spenner on bass (my two absolute favorite Roxy Live Touring members and studio guys on Avalon)
Don’t forget Neil Hubbard 👍
Comes on like a slinky !
OH ohhh OHH oh ohhhhh
He is super high in this video.
god I love this
Album of the year!
Had this on VHS In the Late 80s , this was them at the Their BEST in my book, Bryan Ferry’s Voice was bang on and the backing vocals, The whole Band were so locked in and in sync that they just cruised it with such great restrain and Dynamics… Love this stuff ❤️❤️❤️🌞⭐️❤️
The jest od Bryan Ferry
The best of Bryan Ferry
Andy McKay and Andy Newmark need mentioning
