When catastrophe strikes, we can’t help asking, “why did this happen?” The question keeps us awake at night and relentlessly follows us through our day.

Maybe we hope that if we could only find the answer to “why” something happened we could restore order again by making sense out of the senseless disorder of our pain. The instinct to ask “why” runs deep and seems to have an energy all its own.

But tidy answers to life’s painful questions are few and far between, and even when we do get them they rarely bring the relief or healing we hoped they would.

I think of Job sitting in the wreckage of his life wrestling with his friends over the question of why it all happened, trying to make sense of it. When God shows up, he says plenty but never offers answers to their questions. Instead, He offers Himself.

At the end of the story, Job says, “my ears had heard of you, but now my eyes have seen you…” And that seems to have been enough.

God’s presence so often quiets our questions, which must mean that this is what we desire most-more than an answer, more than reasons, we want to know and feel that God is present with us.

I am tempted to put my hope in answers, but in and of themselves they don’t satisfy my deepest need the way the sense of God being intimately here with me does. The place where God meets with me is where healing happens.

Really really struggling . My prayers were not getting answers and the Lord knows I can't take no more . And he knows I've called on his name for help in my situation/s . Can't bring myself to prayer ..And even if I get a peaceful ish moment my prayers just feel bit "connected ". He knows I'm so broken and I can't or don't want I go on if things don't A improve and B improve just for a few days or weeks or months . I need more than that . Please pray guys . I just can't do it . I have been crying the last hour of so listening to some worship . I felt a little connected doing that . But no more supportive x peace really . So troubled . So broken . I think I'm too far gone now .. If have an ration in 2 days in not worried about that . To be honest I want the Lord to just take me during that . I'm out my depth . I really really am out my depth . I just found this song and hits home with me so true. I lost my daughter 2 years ago and my brother last year. I’ve asked for so long why did God take them away. But I know God is in control and there are greater things to come. I know I will be greeted at the gates by them both. God is so good. All the time

Even before I got saved and found the Lord I struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts. The lord found me in my darkness and even after I decided to follow christ it still took me a while to finally realize God doesn't hate me. God isnt cruel. He doesnt wish harm on me. It still boggles my mind just thinking about it. God... wishes... good for me... that's so amazing.
Just last week I cried to.God. I wanted everything to just end. I wanted life to just stop. Everything felt just... so... broken... i felt I couldnt take it anymore... and I turned to the Lord and I told him exactly how I felt. I asked him to "show me light" few hours later I rode home sing praises. Not 100% but feeling a small hope inside of me, that, as I praise him gets brighter and brighter.
Honestly if it weren't for the Lord I would either be unrecognizable or dead. I praise that the Lord chased me down. He chased me. And he hit the mark... his love broke through.
Even when I feel completely alone in darkness the Lord reminds me hes still there. He reminds me despite the hardships What he has done in my life. Just that alone is amazing. Not even a year after I got saved and hes already helped me to exceed any expectation I ever had in life. Anything good in my life. Anything good in me. Is all literally the work of Gods hands
Just know this u are very valuable to our god and to all us in this world there only one u. And that special piece is God's will love and prayers richard

@Winter Ellis dude a lot of what you said sounded very similar to where I've been. Even the whole crashing thing.... it's like everytime I feel good. I feel on fire for the Lord, I have a light, this drive, this burn of desire... it always leaves... and when it leaves I'm left feeling more empty than I was before and that's when these horrible thoughts come.... whether its spiritually, emotionally... I always crash. It's almost like I just... cant seem to just stay okay...
I will say however you cant "reject God one too many times" unless your dead already, the Lord will forgive. I know it might be hard to take in. It might be hard to actually process but the Lord loves you so much it doesnt matter how many times you reject him. He sees us and he is so patient with us. As long as we come to him that's all that matters. If we come to him it's as if we never rejected him at all. God loves you so... much...
I remember it took God a while to actually teach me that. It took me a while to actually comprehend the idea that God loves me. And then to actually accept it.
It was actually the saddest I'd ever been. I had just given into sin. Gone to a pretty dark place and after I came out..... I was in the shower... I just started crying. It was like above me God was saying "I love you" and I just couldnt take it. I literally loudly cried out to God and asked "why? Why do you love me? How could you love me? Your God.." and I just kept asking "why do you love me?" Over and over... it was like a "blinding light in the dead of night" and my broken heart just didnt know how to accept Gods love and light. And I just cried and cried this ugly... loud... broken.. cry.. It felt like God was there with me telling me he loved me and i just... couldn't handle it. And because my heart didnt know how to take it I just felt this very intense... sadness.
All I can say is keep walking with the Lord. Keep studying his word, praying, fast if you feel God wants you to... keep walking with him and I swear these battles will become easier. Your problems with yourself may not all go away and you will still struggle but God will do his work if you allow him. If you fully yield yourself to him he will mold.
@Winter Ellis I feel where I was a year ago and where I am now is proof God can work in people. Few days after I Got saved I saw a lady... she practically GLOWED for the Lord. GLOWED. she was so amazing and on fire for the Lord. I looked at her and thought "I could never be like that".... guess where I am now?
So many times we ask why... why... but in the end He knows and He is with us through all the pain and anger, the love and the joy. ❤

Just came across this song today, it really hit me. I was earlier in the year diagnosed with Brain Cancer, and i admit its become difficult at times to see if He's really here. But songs. Singers like this Gentleman help out a bit.

I've had nearly 100 brain operations for Hydrocephalus at only 21 years old, but am alive today. I don't give doctors the credit, only GOD gets all the credit!! I wouldn't be alive without the miraculous work of GOD! I thank HIM daily for carrying me through all of that, but most importantly for sending HIS only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to step in the courtroom and pay my fine, a guilty sinner, so all repent and put their trust in Jesus Christ can justly be forgiven and inherit GOD'S Kingdom.

Recently began struggling with depression, anxiety, and ocd. When I go through these phases I begin to doubt if the Bible is even true which sends me in a downward spiral. I know the right thoughts to think, the right verses to repeat, the right prayers to pray... But man when it hits it seems like none of it works, which further "confirms" the doubts I had in the first place. This song speaks strongly to me atm... God just let me know that you're here

Amen! That's all I needed to know during the worst of my suffering with Lyme disease - that God was with me. I knew He was, and I will never forget that He is always with me, even more so now that I have pulled though the worst of it. God brought me back to life - literally made my heart start beating again! I always knew there was a purpose for everything, but after suffering so immensely, God has shown me that there is indeed a grand purpose for the suffering and life is about more than just living - it is about investing in eternity and helping others along the way. So there isn't one single passage to point you to (the conclusion of the matter IS found at the end, however). The best way to understand Job would be to sit down with the King James Version (these pure, perfect words are POWERFUL) and ask God for understanding before reading the whole book. I can give you a few examples of verses, but I almost hate to ruin it for you by sharing them with you before you reach them in context. But I can if you like.

I love this part so much. A little while ago I lost 2 of my best friends because of my faith; and one of them I didn't understand because she also shares the same faith. Even while I was crying and barely able to form words, I still gave praise to God and the next day while I was still upset and felt like I had a pit in my stomach I heard Him say 4 words that took it all away and brought a smile that lasted the rest of the day. "I'm proud of you".
I'm so sorry. Losing friendships is a horrible thing to experience. Thank you for standing firm in the faith, I, and I'm sure many others, are proud of you just as God is.

Since the end of July when my first grandson was stillborn 9 days prior to his due date, I have been lost in grief, unable to understand why this had happened and how to move forward through paralyzing grief. I could not feel God's presence or comfort or even pray for His help because I felt He had abandoned me and my family. This song has perfectly captured the feelings in my heart and has enabled me to find a connection to Him once more.
I've always been drawn to some of David's pleas in the Psalms when he was going through trials and suffering. Just something about how even David was real and raw with God, laying his heart out before him and letting God know when he felt abandoned. It seems like he always came back that God was faithful and greater than any circumstance we face. Not easy but I've tried to find comfort in that. God bless you and I pray for your family.

Reasons absolutely do wipe away tears. When my sister died the first person to tell me she died said it was suicide. After the autopsy report came back and indicated it was an accident, it was immediately relief. All that striving and despair that it was intentional went away. I know God is here, and He hears me and sees me. That doesn’t comfort me more than having answers or getting out of this place of longing.

I am familiar with that sort of situation, unfortunately. I would write out my prayers to God and then seek to listen when I was in that situation. I also quite honestly would call prayer lines such as K-LOVE prayer line and also the Boys Town hotline for advice (1-800-448-3000). I will pray now for you.
