Interesting vid. Contemplating changing my tall fixed stem to a telescopic stem on my Dahon Speed. Some observations. You need the seat higher to get your legs working efficiently. At least 5cm! The fold of the new stem is opposite to the original. This makes the bike less compact. Greetings from SW England, UK
Thanks for video. Now I know how to remove a handle post from a Dahon. I'm riding the MU P27 and would want to replace the stock telescope handle post in the future.
I get rain water coming down the handlebar post into that concave gap between the handlebar post and the stem. When drop the stem to fold the bike, sometimes a lot of water pours out. Is there a solution?
This is super helpful. I was wondering if you might have any advice on how to properly lubricate the bike stem so that it rotates smoothly as you move the handle bars? I've found that my Dahon has gotten stiffer as rotate the handlebars more than 45 degrees left or right.
hi just a quick question though the video is very old, your kneed shouldn`t be bended right? like you have to make your seatpost long enough for you to stretch out your legs ? so it wont hurt your knees? just curious coz i wanna get the stem too but im a bit worried regarding that thanks !
Hi there, nice vid! Do you might know why there isn’t any steering column with diameter 25.4 mm (where the steering stem needs to fit in) anymore? I’ve tried to replace my steering column, but I’ve bought the wrong size (28.6 mm), which is the only one available on the internet. Thanks in advance!
The silver block that locks the stem is loose on mine so its rattling all the time which is annoying and doesn’t feel great! Any ideas on how to fix it,my old headset used the Allen bar that was so easy to adjust but these new ones are all springs n things
Your knees will hurt with a seat that low. I also got that stem, 29 CMS, it's not good for the back when cycling in aggressive posture. I should've bought a 37 CMS instead.
i rather have the adjustments. Putting weight on your wrist with the handle bars so low. Unless you have short legs and can bring the seat down but i see if for a child at that point.
Does this modification makes the bike more reliable on high speed? Or what can I do to make my dahon more reliable when I go fast, because it makes me scared at high speed
+Bahadır ÖZEL its pretty sturdy my friend. and yes its much better than the stock one when it comes to speed. anyways thanks for watching my video, pls don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to my channel as it helps out a lot. if not, that's fine. thanks again!
Do you think it’s possible to cut off the bars to make a T bar to fit the andros double stem system? Not sure,my old speed could use some upgrades...yours looks good :)
Hi, did you do it then? I'm just browsing around for dahon stems... i do want to fit the andros on my current folder (it's like a dahon, it was the uk factory for dahon)... and keep the extendable stem (now tern uses the andros as only adjustable part of the stems, but i want to slide it upwards also in case). So yeah, i'm going to get a 25.4 anodized alloy ( = not smooth) seatpost - they're cylindrical. And saw the needed bit off, so i have the head of the "T" stem. But the challenge is then to find a handlebar with a needed superwide 25.4 clamping area. Maybe i'll have to get a dahon/tern handlebar, which is not best in my case as i'd need a wider bar and they're all just 64-66 cm at best. Well anyway, still inquiring...
huh? what circle big thing? anyways, thanks for watching my video, pls don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to my channel as it will help me out a lot, if not that's fine. thanks again my friend.
I don't think they selling it anymore my friend. its a special order request very hard to get. anyways, thanks for watching my video. pls don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to my channel, if not that's fine. thanks again my friend.
I wish they have the carbon fiber but unfortunately they don't my friend. but the good thing is that this stem looks way better and sturdier than the stock one. anyways, thanks for watching my video, pls don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to my channel as it will help me out a lot, if not, that's fine. thanks again my friend.
Anthony T and your going to soder it back? I dunno man that's kinda dangerous. I wouldn't do it. I know dahon and tern seems to not know that their stem is bloody long. I find it retarded and dumb. The bike doesn't look sport and just looks unstable with that long bar.
I cut the internal extension stem and its still adjustable, just in case I wanted to cruise and relax. Its basically the same height as your new lowered stem, saved me a few $$. Riding it for an hour having that low stem with my seat post high up, it helps to speed faster but it does kills my back so I added bar ends on my handle bars.
@@MrJo2trs how did it hold hold up? Sounds legit because it would just be like cutting down a seat post on a regular bike I see the weakness on most of these folding stems is the folding mechanism I'd like to find one that doesn't fold and is stronger I don't need the bars to fold I've even considered having the frame welded as I only need it small enough to be easier to fit in a car and take up less space in the home on a train etc defeats the object of it being a folding bike though lol.
lol, if I can find it. anyways, thanks for watching my video. pls don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to my channel as it will help me out a lot, if not that's fine. thanks again.

Thanks for the video man. I'd want to ask you some things about this Dahon stem. Do you have an email? it would be helpful. Greetings From Chile! (Sorry for my english).
These are still the weak link in the steering system, I have had this unit and after 500 miles it begins to get sloppy at the hinge, I’ve even disassembled the folding riser and put new shims but it only lasts for a short time. There is nothing more unnerving than busting around the corner with an unstable riser ......
I can post a video of everything I did , it really doesn't cost that much and it works well. The only thing is you won't have the ability to fold the handlebars, it'll be a solid setup
@fraserthomson5766 I have some pics in my files somewhere, I take pics of everything like this, I'm also into everything Rc so taking pics is really important... I know for a fact they make these folding handlebars 2 or 3 different ways, the differences are very subtle and hardly noticeable, usually a pin and a difference in the way the hinge works. My only advice at this point is taking yours apart and looking it over very very closely. Shop around and look at the newer designs, the Chinese are always coming out with new innovations... sorry bro that's the best I can do for you
I have a new Dahon Speed P8, and the handlebar post is so weak. I'm going to swap it out, thanks to your great upgrade video. Thanks!

Very sturdy, and easy to clean.Excellent product

awesome so now you can install it then. thanks for watching.
+L BS yea awesome d7...but I have to wait dis 11nch stem ... Niceday bro (",
rolan paguia looks much better hey, looks aggressive and more sturdy than the stock one

I bought at my local bike store in Vancouver.

I bought a bike seat but it won't fit the dahon bike. Is there an adapter or new seat post I can install to make the seat fit?
Usually you have to pull the stem out and make it really long for the bike to fold correctly. How does it fold with the short stem?
*folds perfectly fine*
How can I tell what diameter is the stem? I need to replace mine as the folding part was damaged...
The silver block that locks the stem is loose on mine so its rattling all the time which is annoying and doesn’t feel great! Any ideas on how to fix it,my old headset used the Allen bar that was so easy to adjust but these new ones are all springs n things
your welcome
Is this item compatible on any folding bikes

Vancouver BC or Washington Vancouver.
Do you have 31cm head tube black Litepro
What's the size of that big allen wrench?
Nice modification. The bike profile looks better!
Is there a chance that instead of buying a new stem, can i just cut the stock one?
Why not cut the old inner stem.
I made my one shorter I just cut it
the onther one is called telescopic stem the one with top tube
i rather have the adjustments. Putting weight on your wrist with the handle bars so low. Unless you have short legs and can bring the seat down but i see if for a child at that point.
What tool is used to remove the final bolt(not sure what's it called) that is holding the stem in place. The biggest one
you still have the old one ,if you do ,i wanna to buy it.

check out their site and email them if they do delivery
can you do a segment video how to install the dahon bike fork ?
Yes me too
thanks!
Could you tell me where u order the part in Van because I need a different type of stem for my 09 dahon speed pro TT

They are not Dahon branded carbon fibre folding stem.
Question: On the previous stem which I have the same one. Have you thought about on cutting the extension to make it lower at least 2 inches?
Anthony T and your going to soder it back? I dunno man that's kinda dangerous. I wouldn't do it. I know dahon and tern seems to not know that their stem is bloody long. I find it retarded and dumb. The bike doesn't look sport and just looks unstable with that long bar.
