The guys of BTS are multifaceted. They’re stuck with the label boy band, but to me they are like The Avengers of artists. Each with their special powers they bring to the table lol. You’ve watched one side of BTS, but their songs can be explosive and then surprise you with a twist. I’m glad you got to see a part of what Suga (Agust D) can do, he’s a talented rapper, writer, composer, and producer.

truuuue! Though I wanna add: i hate that the label 'boy band' is considered ~bad~ or not that good :( I feel like that stigma is just because it's what girls like. Bands like the beatles haven't been accepted as legends until men decided that they were.... I see something similar happen with BTS... it's concerning. Like you said, there's so much more about them!

If u think BTS is an innocent boyband, then you are definitely new lol. especially Suga he is known for being the savage one and bringing that edge to the group. He's originally started in underground rap so this isn't new at all. If you listen to Agust d aka Suga's mixtapes, you will soon discover he doesn't hold back with his production, wordplay, language, and lyricism. And Suga doesnt rap on the side, he's a rapper in bts too lol

Min Yoongi is his real name, Suga is his stage name with BTS, AgustD is used for his non-BTS solo projects such as this one. To Army, he is the kitten. Yoongi is from the Min clan, the descendants of the last Empress of Korea. He wrote, produced & paid for the mv since its a solo project. Yoongi is one of the key songwriter & producer for BTS. If you like this, you will like his mixtapes & also "Shadow" which he wrote, from BTS' latest album (mv is called "Shadow Map of the Soul: 7 interlude trailer). At a young age he is already a multiple award winning producer. He is the first member of BTS to be made a full member of the Korean Music Copyright Association, in 2018. RM & Jhope were inducted early this year. I think at this point, it is highly recommended for you to get to know each member of BTS, their personalities & their backstory. There is too much to write 😅. Recommended watch list:
    - 7 Members of Bangtan: pretty dated, stereotyping kinda video but still the best intro on the members
    - Crash Course on BTS 2020
    - Nobodies to Legends 2019
Thank you to you both for reacting, we enjoy & appreciate it 😊

A lot of BTS lyrics are savage. The hard lyrics are disguised at times by upbeat tracks and fun choreography. But those of us that love them so much love them for their lyrics. They address very serious topics and do not hold back. Other than the fact that they are all super talented, their lyrics and music is the secret to their success. Thanks for giving them a serious listen.

Hi Carol! I you both compliment each other so well in your reactions:). Daechwita is Korean traditional military music used often in changing of the guard and royal procession. The style/instruments is sampled heavily in this track. AgustD is Suga from BTS’ alter ego and he does not hold back in savagery and honesty lol. Suga released 2 AgustD mixtapes so far. This MV and lyrics has allot of historical context you can check out Daechwita explained by a KOrean by DKDKTV. I recommend watching DKDKTV’s explained videos when you get to “Ddaeng”, “UGH”, “Baepsae”, “Persona” by BTS. There’s allot of Korean metaphors, puns and wordplay they’re great at explaining. It will blow your mind.

The more you dive into BTS, the more sides of them you'll find. There is music that BTS as a group have made that rivals this one for how "hard" it sounds, and although the language is typically a little more censored, that really just means that they use some pretty genius word play to get their point across. The three rappers all have mixtapes, but even their mixtapes span genres. One of the things BTS does, which is more common in Korea than our western minds think of for "groups" (especially groups made up of male vocalists which of course we want to call boy bands) is that even on their BTS albums, they often have solo projects or "sub unit" songs which only have a few of them - when you watched The Truth Untold you saw a vocal line sub unit song. There are also rapline sub unit songs, their four-part Cypher series, Ddaeng, Outro:Tear and UGH being the most "popular" ones. "Persona" (by RM aka Kim Namjoon), "Shadow" (by Suga/Agust D aka Min Yoongi) and "Ego" (by J-Hope aka Hobi) are three solo songs by the three rappers. They also represent the three parts from Carl Jung's "Map of the Soul" theory of psychology, which is where the title from their album came from and is also the theme that runs through all those songs (rewatch Black Swan and pay attention to all the shadow references in the lyrics and in the video). The theory is all about how every person has their outward Persona - the identity the world expects to see, typically polished and shiny and bright (this is why the video for Boy With Luv is so aggressively bubblegum pop - it represents the "persona" side of BTS's soul, the version that everyone "wants/expects" them to be), the Shadow which may be seen as your "dark" side but is really the unconscious part of you and just as valid as any other part, and it's only through embracing this that you can truly know yourself, and your "Ego", which represents more of your conscious self - the parts of you that *you* choose to project to the world.

This is Agust D quite soft in bars. :D When you discover both his mixtapes, "Agust-D" and "D-2", things get even harder. And when they sing all three (Jhope, RM, and Suga), like in the four Cyphers (1,2,3,4) the bars are seriously like hammers. :D Glad you liked it!

BTS is like a very well oiled machine. Almost like a hybrid band. Each one brings their best skill to the table and you might think without one it might still work since there are seven of them but BTS wont be BTS if they lose one and you will realize that as you get to know them more. I am in my 30s and I have to say you have to be older to thoroughly enjoy thier music because the depth of their lyrics, the philosophical and literary inspirations and messages behind theirs song and their music videos are amazing. And they are teaching kids those values... Philosophical teachings of Carl Jung and works of Hermann hesse. Which band or artist is doing that in the west?

Daechwita is the type of music that is played when the king is like making his way through towns, as you can see there is a tyrant king version of Agust D and a commoner version of Suga, and at the end Suga "kills" the version of himself that is toxic and thinks of themselves as a higher being, at least that's kinda how I see it, congrats on 1,000 subs!!

It was interesting hearing your thoughts on Suga's masterpiece. He truly is a musical genius, but also an incredibly kind and thoughtful person. I don't mean any disrespect by this, but I couldn't help but giggle at you calling BTS "innocent". I understand that you haven't gotten to know BTS as a group yet though. They're actually a very political group, as well as philosophical. They've made many controversial statements in their songs - even going as far as putting their whole career on the line, to be brought down by the actual government, for standing up for social justice.

I will explain a bit about the MV story, the king and gang boy is the same person (Agust D). The king is old version of him. You can see when video started, he walk in to market and give some look to the butcher, they are planing a betrayial. The butcher is the same person with the executioner, he help to cut Agust D's handcuf at the end of video. He kill the king means he kill the old version of his self.

  • @user-md1qm2ni5o
    @user-md1qm2ni5o 4 года назад +8

Yaayyyy thank you for the reaction!!! Daechwita is a genre of traditional Korean music that I believe the military used to play when the king arrived (and as BTS fans are clear ARMY so he is himself as a king) . The MV explores the two personas of AGUST D - the king that he has become despite the scar on his face as back then if one were to be king they could not have physical damage (referring to BTS' world domination despite the language barrier and other factors). The second persona is of the peasant - he had grown up very poor and I believe this is the more humble side of himself that contrasts the tyrant king persona. This is almost like a psychological battle between his past and present self so when the peasant kills the king he is reminding himself to not forget his beginnings and to stay humble.

Aaaaah thank you for saying this!!! I absolutely loved this track - it's my D-2 favorite track - and I was wondering why, but I'm a Radiohead fan, so maybe that's why. I couldn't dare put these words on it, as Radiohead is sort of sacred in a way, and comparing it to Yoongi's music sort of felt disrespectful for some reason, but that's probably my internal prejudice towards pop music speaking... Anyway I'm not even making sense but thank you for bringing this up, it meant a lot to me reading this simple sentence 💜

I'm not sure of you're checking comments for this mv anymore, but Suga incorporated a cameo of Jin & Jingkook. The guy who bumped into Suga in the market was Jin. He had a fake beard glued onto his face for the part. Since Jin was studying to be an actor when he was recruited for BTS, I'm sure he loved having this part. Right at that point in the mv Jin's fishing pole hits JK, which prompts a fight...pure comedy 🤣 😆 😂

I really applaud you guys for watching and honestly reviewing something not within your normal genre of music. As someone who has grown up with rock music, I branched out over the years and appreciate all types of music so I really enjoyed this video. Min Yoongi (Agust D) is a really talented musician who produces and writes his own solo work and all of his work is amazing. He writes authentic and relatable songs on topics most others would not even dare to touch, and he always goes hard. Hence his nickname Savage Min. I'm also not sure if you have seen his other video "Give It To Me," but I suggest it if you haven't. Rock on.

Daechwita' is a genre of Korean traditional music consisting of royal military music played by wind and percussion instruments, generally performed while marching in parade. 'Daechwita' is usually played when a king goes out, when they return from a war with victory, or when a guard changing ceremony is held at a royal palace in Joseon Dynasty from 14th century through 19th century, the old Korea.
All the references used in this MV is from Joseon Dynasty, the old Korea, from 14th century throughout 19th century. The architecture of a royal palace and market streets, traditional fashion style such as King's outfits and commoner's clothes in the market streets, traditional musical instruments, and the way Suga is beheaded by the executioner, etc., are all Korean traditional cultural references originated from Joseon Dynasty from 14th through 19th century.
Below is a link to Bookish Theories that explains about the historical background of this MV. I find this channel's explanation most accurate.

It's curious that you say that bc BTS based the Map of the Soul album series in the jungian psychology, trough their music, they have talked about their *persona* (the social mask that everyone has, the "you" that is shown to the world) their *shadows* ( the unconscious mind composed of repressed ideas, weaknesses, fears etc) and also about their *Ego* ( the conscious mind as it comprises the thoughts, memories, and emotions a person is aware of)
These themes are portrayed in the latest albums Map of the Soul: Persona and Map of the Soul: 7
But I recommend you to check out these specific songs:
    - *Intro: Persona* that is a solo song by RM, this introspective track depicts his journey to discovering who he is as a musician and a person in general, ending in the sentiment that he just wants to be there for someone.
    - *Interlude: Shadow* by Suga It’s not an ungrateful moan or a cry for help, but a nail-on-head assessment of the mental toll of triumph, whether you’re succeeding on a very public stage or not. ( He has openly talk about his struggles with anxiety and depression before)
    - *Outro Ego* by JHope, in this song he reflects on his career, and the decisions and hardship he’s faced, including the dichotomy between his stage persona and his birth identity, Jeong Ho-seok. "Outro: Ego" ultimately ends with his declaration of *self* after accepting that his shadows and his persona are also him.

I think one of the biggest misconceptions about BTS is that their music sounds pop, or soft sounding, and are targeted towards teens, etc. But their sound spans so many genres of music, from rap, hip hop, edm, rock, acid jazz, r&b, to neo soul. But if you decide to dive deeper one would quickly realize that they 're more than just a boyband.
AgustD's sound and music maybe hard hitting but BTS's rap line has a lot of hard hittin raps and don't hold back either. Hope you check out Ugh, Ddaeng, Tear and their Cypher series 1-4 ( No MV's but they have lyric videos with English translations.)

There are two other members of BTS in the video as background characters. The guy with the fishing rod that Agust D bumps into at the beginning is the oldest member of BTS Jin, and the guy who punches the guy with the fishing rod is the youngest member Jungkook.

You NEED to get introductions on BTS members and what they're like individually as well as in a group. All 7 of them bring something different to the table and are great at their own things but the amazing part is that their individuality doesn't clash with them being in a group, instead it combines and transforms into an absolutely fantastic group dynamic. It's amazing. It's one of the things that makes BTS who they are.
I'd suggest you to watch "Who is BTS? The seven members of Bangtan".
    Btw, I love your reactions.

This particular song has the hard electric guitar that I find amazing and to which I appreciate the rock vibe. ;) I love how BTS as a group is so talented, passionate and versatile. Individually they are unique and creative...they continue to inspire everyone with profound messages in their songs. Thank you for showing BTS content on your channel...we Army appreciate it and hope to continue supporting you on this amazing journey!!

Oh yeah the rap line goes hard. Min Yoongi goes by Suga for BTS but on solo projects he's Agust D. The cameo was the fight scene in the alley. Jin and Jungkook. I'm not sure if there are english captions for JOKE by RM, but that really goes hard. But to be honest I don't think you need to read captions (he spits the words so fast it would make reading next to impossible). One of my favourite songs is OUTRO TEAR (live version). That's all 3 rappers. But if you want a bit more Suga then try INTERLUDE: SHADOW.

There is also a lot of things in the MV which are hard to catch if you are not paying attention or do not know about Korean history etc. If you want to know more about what you may have missed and the meanings etc in it there is a great explanation video by bookish theories. (there are actually a few explained videos but for this song I like bookish theories the best). There is also a behind the scenes of the making of this MV and an interview with Suga about the song. However in a vlive video Suga also went through the whole album live and talked about each song and the one thing that he said about this song that really stood out is that the king (blond suga) represents anger and that the gun went off but we don't know if the king is dead or not.....we will have to wait to find out until he releases more.

Fun fact: BTS was originally a Hip-hop group but they vetured to different music genres over time. Personally, I've became an ARMY because of their more hip-hop influenced songs. They are a bunch of fun guys when they're just being themselves and when they're not on stage. BTS is a humble group of people.

Suga aka Agust D👑 released their second mixtape 'D-2' and his songs quickly positioned in the most important places of music chats worldwide .
Suga has become the first South Korean solo artist to enter both the Billboard album and single charts at the same time, following the release of the "mixtape" "D-2" with his title track "Daechwita" . Inspired by traditional Korean music used for the military march and royal parade, "Daechwita" combines the sound of traditional Korean wind and percussion instruments with the hiphop musical sub-genre "trap".

I am going to let you know that many only superficially understand and get into BTS thinking ‘what the hell is up with the fascination with this group’? But if you do proper research and listen to their extensive discography you will be amazed at their versatility! Millions love them. There is a bit of everything for everyone! Their lyrics are profound and always have a message (if you get hold of proper translations and not basic ones).
The rapline of the group is exceptional and I believe you may be impressed by the song UGh, Outro tear and Daaeng! DKDKTV explanation videos showcase how brilliant they are with multiple metaphors and lyrics etc etc.
Suga aka AgustD (Suga spelt backwards and DT stands for his hometown Daegu town) is my personal favourite (though I appreciate them all) and he is amazing! If you liked this song, try listening to Burn it with American singer MAX, People, Strange ft RM and what do you think lyric videos with English translations! It is so worth it!
AND THESE GUYS ARE NATURALLY HILARIOUS especially on their own shows Run BTS and Bon Voyage on the Vlive app.
