- Matt's Country - Episode 17 TITLE EDITED 30th Oct 2023 - Preparation for staining a Gunstock with food colouring. This is an old Weihrauch HW80 beech gunstock, and it really needs a gunstock refurbishment. I have spent lots of time sanding down the gunstock and smoothing it. The checkering has proven a real challenge without the correct tools, but with a small file, patience and lots of cups of tea, malted milk biscuits and a steady hand I have improved it to a point where I am ready to stain it. But what colour? I fancy a dark green with an oil finish. Utter madness perhaps. You're welcome to comment on my sanity. I have shown a tin of H&N 25cal pellets in the main photo because the green label is a good way to compare to my green sample piece of stained wood. Filmed in Portrait mode, not landscape due to Workshop Space issues. And it turns out loads of people watch RUclips on their phone... who knew?
