Uwe Grodd had another excellent disc on Naxos conducting some Vanhal symphonies. I feel like he had a real feel for this era of music and I wish he had a more extensive discography of Classical Era symphonies.
Thanks, Dave, for bringing Dittersdorf to our attention. You have prompted me to enjoyably revisit the 6 Symphonies after Ovid's Metamorphoses (in my case, the Cantilena/Shepherd/Chandos recording) and look forward with anticipation to your comments on those six.
His Sinfonias on Ovid's Metamorphoses are also delightful [for instance, the Minuetto con Garbo from the first - "The four ages of the World" - is a true bonbon :) ]
