- Arda Turan made a name for himself while playing under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid, catching the attention of FC Barcelona. However, Arda Turan’s transfer to Barcelona would be the beginning of a sad downfall for the Turkish attacker, as Barcelona’s transfer ban meant that he would have to sit on the sidelines for 6 months before making his debut. A string of unfortunate events would keep him on the sidelines further, before being sent to Turkey by Barcelona to see out the end of his contract.
While in Turkey, Turan would get into trouble, starting with a 16 match (10 matches) ban, a fight in a night club, and then a scuffle at a hospital where upon Turan fired a gun. This, is the sad story of the rise and tragic fall of Arda Turan.

Oh, Arda. As an Atleti fan, one of my my favourite players ever. He made a huge mistake leaving; it was a disaster for him and also for us, because to this day we are still searching for that Turan blueprint
Turan was average at best
@@_viresh_ wrong
@@youraveragepasser-by7367 bro was a flop in the best team you are wrong
I agree with you
Also for Barça… a rare case of lose-lose-lose
As soon as I saw Gavi play once at 16 I said he reminded me of Arda Turan. Skillful, crafty but gritty at the same time.. hopefully their career paths are vastly different
It will be different for Gavi, Laporta and co aren't gonna let him go easily like Atleti did
Trust me, Gavi is FAR better than Arda Turan
Arda Turan
Well thats a name I havent heard in a long time
Arda held such unique promise especially as a Turkish player. Was a big big fan of his play style as a true striker who could also defend.
Gabi, Koke, and Turan playing together was such a joy to watch
He should never have left Atletico , he was an integral part of Simeone's system . I remember talking to my friends about Arda leaving for Barca and all of us agreed that he would not get much playing time because of MSN and would be spending much of his time on the bench . He could've been a legend at Atletico .
The editing on these videos keeps getting better! You go Adrian
As I’m also named Arda and an avid Galatasaray supporter Arda Turan was my biggest idol as a youngster. The heartbreak created by the progression of his career after leaving Athletico is therefore even greater for me personally. I believe that he’s ultimately a good gut at heart but he let his emotions get the better of him many times.
Liverpool fan here… I always admired Arda and wanted him at Liverpool so bad…
Damn I completely forgot about this guy, what a player he was.
Adrian, a piece of grammatical advice. You described the 6-1 against PSG as “infamous.” This would make sense if this video was from the PSG perspective. Since the video is Barcelona-centric, the remontada should be described as “famous”
It shows how high quality your videos are that constructive criticism has to be focused on such tiny details. Great work, as always!
2:16 The capital of Turkey is actually Ankara, not Istanbul.
Bad habit.😅
Great video!!
@@RabonaTV You can just say it was intentional big brain move to bait comments correcting you and increase engagement
He started as a young promosing player who was kind and likable everybody in Turkiye loved himbut as the time went on he made some political quotes and started caring less and less about football and more about starting a fight on the pitch after that gun incident most Turks hate him.
What is it with players of Turkish heritage making political Quotes and careers going to shit after.?
@@niallfoody97 Turkiye's political state after Atatürk passed away is not healty for the most part. You either black or white so when you make political quote one of the sides is going to hate you. But for the past 10 years and so the government is hated by many and making a positive comment about goverment usually makes people angry.
@@BabaPro1080 Arda's situation is still not as bad as Hakan Sukur
@@niallfoody97 because most Turkish players are idiots/want to secure their social standing so they suck up to the dictator.
@@MikoyanGurevichMiG21what, being politically persecuted by a tinpot tyrant?
So happy you made this. I have been wondering where he went. Was hoping he would join MIlan at one point.
Great video as always! But there’s one aspect of it that you didn’t cover and that was the Turkish media. They wouldn’t leave Adra alone, even when he was playing in Spain. One news outlet even said that he hurt his groin because he was having too much sex. Absolutely ridiculous things to say about your own nations star player and I think that may have contributed to him making some of his poor decisions off the pitch. I vaguely remember fans booing him off the pitch in a 3-0 loss against Spain in the Euros. Yeah he didn’t play great but the fans were more angry with him than they should’ve been and that was because of the constant gossip surrounding him. This isn’t to defend him or his actions because he has done some very stupid things, but it does add a bit more context. It would need translating, but a Turkish channel named Hastalik Bu Futbol did an amazing “first person” narrative of his entire career. From his youth academy days to the end of his career
Thanks bro. I think joining Barca was also a big factor. He wasn't a 'Barca' type player. I know when Barca comes calling you don't go anywhere else, but still. I think he would've been superb in the premier league. Suited his game so much
Adrián and Rabona TV team: thank you for this video. I had actually suggested you make a vid of Adrain previous comments.
I feel I speak for many of us here: great video!!
We are being spoilt by the quality of content on this channel! Amazing
Need more of these Adrian!!!
Well done and what a roller coaster of a story.
I started following you on the world Cup and I always thought that you sounded kind of Portuguese, even though I already knew you were Canadian. This video slightly justified my suspicious so that's awesome
Great video
Turan might start coaching soon.
His name is going around as a potential coach for the Turkish youth team (personally I'd prefer seeing him at a small team first)
I watched him play 3 times for the national team, score in all of them. His first stint at Galatasaray was out of this world. But his move to Bsrcelona was the end. Soo many playersget ruined by moving to Barcelona and Real Madrid. Regardless of how talented you are, moving there is too much risk for a player.James rodriguezbecame a regular for Anceloti and displaced Ozil, but when Benitez arrived, James was sidelinedand began the begining of the end for him.
I am still surprised why he left atleti, I don't understand, I cant just understand. Once again Adrian making me love the game of football. Keep up the good work.
When Barca calls... what do you do. Nevertheless the decision was really bad.
He wanted more money than he got from atleti
Arda Turan. On his day he's a good player and missed the Champions League final due to injuries in 2014. Had he played I think Atletico Madrid would have won the Champions League title. It all went wrong for him when he joined Barcelona.
You can say the same shit with Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso.
He also once attacked a journalist who was twice his age in a plane in 2017
When he threw that shoe at a linesman, damn, I laughed so hard and loved him for it 😂
Istanbul is not the capital of Turkey, It is Ankara, please keep that in mind for your future videos, coming from a Turkish guy ❤
The intro gives a sense of Nostalgia.... how can you even not subscribe
Cool intro video sequence!
Turan in euro 08 was so good
Terrible ending for a career that was continuously on the rise and improving. He was even productive at Barca, but then it fell apart.
Just saw that you're a Benfica fan, any thoughts or videos on Oscar Cardozo? He's vilified in Paraguay for missing a crucial PK against Spain in the 2010 WC QFs but otherwise he's highly regarded in most of the clubs he's played for. Would be cool to hear your take on him.
Came back to see if this channel improved….
As a Turk, I can tell you it's just not in our DNA to work hard for a prolonged period of time.
For me, Hulk was the biggest tragedy.
Of course his decisions were based on money but imagine him in today's Premier League money 🤑
What a beast, what a player
As a Benfica supporter I'm glad he left.🙃But I understand your point of course! He had so much more to offer at the top level in Europe, but I can understand his decisions as well.
Quite the intro..
What's the name of the Classical music?
Listed in the description! But it's Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 - Allegretto
Small nitpick that has nothing to do with Turan, but Istanbul isn't the capital of Turkiye its Ankara
Cuz you mentioned the Soweto derby imma subscribe
Arda may has fucked up many things but you can actually see him getting mentally more mature and he also started to get a coaching license
Feel sorry for Turan. He should have stayed at Atletico even as much as I really like Barcelona 👍 and understood the move.
Do one of these on Paul Pogba please.
I had completely forgot about Turan. Don’t ever like to hear of a promising career falling but this is a great series
i think he would fit perfectly at the current barca first XI
as a matter of fact gavi reminds so much of him
2:17 Istanbul isn't Turkey's capital. Other than that top video I also think about his downfall every now and then!
You forgot the mention that he was cast out of Barcelona because he attacked a journalist on the national team’s plane in the summer of 2017. That was the breaking point for him. All downhill after that.
It's a common mistake, but Istanbul isn't Turkey's capital.
i was so eager to see him light up barca
Can you make one on Mario Götze?
this is interesting, personally I never saw the qualities you mentioned but what a downfall for some reason sadly I feel like this is where Mason Greenwood may be going
İstanbul is not Turkeys capital, its Ankara.
Anyways really noce Video thought
Bit random but, is that a wild Pizzi in the photo at 1:21?
Yes!
I like ur old ending music 🎶 better an whatever this is 👆
you could also include the Euro 2016 disaster with turkey
I wanted them to win euro 2008
Sadly, now he has become a meme in Turkiye.
Do one on isco
Atletico Madrid Arsa Turan was a terror
Once I saw Arda Turan in the thumbnail I had to click!
I remember when people were saying Turkey was dark house in every tournament they played in when Arda played. Now he’s just a joke.
He killed his career when he moved to Barcelona.
omg, i was wondering what happened to him
Just saying, I like this format more, I don’t like listening to the mics of the people you interview. I know, obviously they know what they’re talking about, I just don’t like it, makes it hard to hear what they’re saying when I’m just listening to these videos while driving
Bruh Ankara is turkeys capital, not Istanbul
What an intro
The famous misfits
I think he had a decent career. Besides the injuries and his anger issues, how many players have won European and domestic trophies?
Ankarra is the capital of Turkey Adrian ;)
Wish he never left Atleti
Marko Marin at Chelsea. We called him German Messi lmao
2:19 İstanbul is not the capital of Turkey, it's Ankara.
Just a small citation, Istanbul is not Turkey's capital 2:20
What an idiot for going to Barca, thought so at the time and was sad to be proven right cause I did like him as a player.
Hatem Ben Arfa is definitely up there too
No, arda was the spartan king. The media just doesn’t cover third rate teams history.
Like that guy
Definetly he shoul stay at Atletico de Madrid!
Just here wondering the life lessons Adrian wanted to pass across 😂
adriaaaaaan
The capitol of Turkey is Ankara not Istanbul
Barcelona ruined his career, that sums up his whole downfall
Istanbul is not Turkey's capital, though
Ok, lets be real, Turan was not a success at Barca. BUT if I got myself on a list that featured Rivaldo, Eto'o, Ronaldinho, Messi and Neymar, I would probably think, "jobs a good'un" at the end of it.
I always thought there was a decent player in there, but Arda wasnt overly popular in Turkey, i was talking to my 2 Turkish friends about it (Altan and Musti) they both said the same thing, in Turkey a lot of people think he was a bit slow and a bit overrated, surprised me hearing that, both of them go back to Turkey now and again to see family
Real ones remember how he was better than Griezmann and the best in the whole Atleti squad
0:05 - I'm Dutch so i have that with a LOT of players 😂
Istanbul is not the capital of Turkey, Ankara is.
This guy played like prime isco but had the temperament of a 3 year old
Barça haven't won a champions league in a while, a while.
i still think he had a fantastic career! that atleti winning la liga season was magnificient!
you forgot to mention that in 2017 he beat a 62 year old journalist in a flight back to istanbul. turans another scandal..
İstanbul is not Turkey's capital 🤦🏻
Yes, it was just a slip-up. Apologies.
Wait this guy had the fascist dictator of Turkey in his wedding?
Wasted talent
galatasary😍😍😍
first i guess
Istanbul is not Turkey capital
