That was a recording they made for their grandparents to show them how far they had come in their practices. It obviously went viral and to date has over 23 million views and has been shouted out by Metallica and other famous bands. Metallica asked Alessia Cara to do a cover of Enter Sandman for their Blacklist album, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Black album. 53 artists were asked to take those iconic songs and do whatever they wanted with them. Alessia had no idea what to do but because she shares the same management group as The Warning, she contacted them for help. It was difficult to do as Alessia was in Canada and The Warning were in Mexico and travel with COVID was not happening. They made it work and developed the song and recorded it in one week! they created the music video with the same logistical restrictions. Because of that you saw that Alessia appeared as a projection on the wall in the video as she was not there. It was recorded in an abandoned textile mill outside of Monterey, Mexico. Alessia and The Warning were the only ones with “the balls” to completely reimagine this iconic classic into the creepy and demented lullaby it was originally written to be- not just another cover.

For as much as I love Metallica, after all it was The Warnings cover of this song back in 2014 that got me interested in them to begin with, I still definitely like this rendition far more than the original. They took James Hetfields original idea of this song as being a “lullaby” for his son and created a far more Surreal….. Darker….. Creepier….. Haunting, almost horror movie feel of a song with a powerful ending that gives homage to the original, what a touch of class. And Dany’s high note leading into the ending is EPIC! They absolutely killed it! The more we hear from The Warning, the more I come to believe it is literally impossible for the sisters to put out anything subpar! And, this collaboration with Alissa Cara, who by the way is a Grammy award winning Canadian pop star with millions of followers was a perfect melding of pop and rock. Yet In my opinion, it is absolutely The Warning who bring the “hit factor” to this recreation of an iconic song. What a Bold Statement! But, I honestly did not expect anything less. It would not surprise me if this song/video were to receive a nomination for a Grammy award. Again, they killed it! LONG LIVE THE VILLARREAL SISTERS aka THE WARNING!

The new cover is even more mind blowing when you consider the sisters only had one, ONE week to compose and record it and that Alessia couldn’t leave Canada due to COVID restrictions! They rarely due covers anymore but this opportunity was too good to pass up.

The Warning stopped doing covers in 2016 so they could concentrate on their first full length album XXI Century Blood. I can always tell when it's truly a first time listening when the reactor pauses the video at exactly the wrong time - the most dramatic moment of the performance. Dany's yell before they launch into the climax which they had been building up towards through the whole song. Lol, I can chuckle about it now because I've seen it before and can listen to this song whenever I wish. But I bet when you listen to it again you won't pause it there anymore.😄😄

I did think in the 2014 version having the younger sisters speak the prayer added a very (good) creepy touch to it. As did Pau in the 2021 version! I do think it's a shame that Alessia & The Warning couldn't be physically together when they did this song, it would have been interesting to see them directly interact, but what they did come up with was pretty awesome. There's a real evolutionary feel to this with The Warning going from covering a song, to being asked by the original artists to do their own version of it. Good choice to react to the two versions back to back.

You can see in the first video that these girls had something that they have now honed into the band they are now, one of the best female rock bands out there. That's Dany-style guitar playing! The amazing drummer was 12. Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett says she "kicks maximum ass"! The very solid little bassist was 9, and is definitely not "Al"!😂 Her name is Alejandra, so, to say Ale, just truncate the 'jandra'. If you haven't heard of another family band called Liliac you should react to their version of this song.The girls are fun to watch especially when one sister is trying to teach another one their instrument. Alessia is Canadian and was on American idol.

James Hatfield said this song was written to be a lullaby for his son. So The Warning rearranged the original song to have more of a lullaby vibe. Their voices blend really well with Alessia's. Their harmonies are spectacular. Their arrangement of this timeless classic is stellar. The video is amazing. Legendary work here. Grammy Award winning artist Alessia Cara is more of a sultry soulful Pop singer/songwriter. She and The Warning share the same international agent who suggested that she collaborate with TW. So with very little time, TW jumped at the opportunity; rearranging the song and recording the music and vocals in less than a week!
