lol. We refer to my sister-in-law as "Hurricane Teri" because she carves a path of drama and destruction wherever she goes. My bride would tell me "I expect Hurricane Teri to make landfall around 6:00 or 7:00 tonight" when she was coming to visit lol. Luckily, they're no longer on speaking terms (she could only take so much crazy) so it's been clear skies for years now.
I was only six and my memory of the storm itself is a bit fuzzy for some reason, but I do still remember all the downed trees and other debris laying around afterwards all over the Albany neighborhood where we lived at the time. Never knew it was a bomb cyclone until now, though. Have to say it is nice to get an educational newscast from time to time.
@@john72ss Thanks for the correction. Zaffino kinda lumped it into his discussion of bomb cyclones and I assumed it was included as one. I do feel I should, in the interest of muleheaded nitpickyness on my part, point out that typhoons actually are cyclones, so I was half right...well, okay, maybe not. 😉 Thanks again.
Thank you for explaining this. I was worried we could get hurricane forced winds in the Willamette Valley area from what other people are saying. Stay safe
Probably because people here are unbelievably ignorant, and rank 44th in education. Cyclones and hurricanes aren't the same. Also, we aren't on the coast genius
GOD it’s nice to have adults reporting things. The OTHER news channels reporters speak in that stupid sing songy voice and make it sound like we’re all gunna DIE while at the same time saying the with will be 45mph🙄 KGW is the best. Good job guys.
Yes, Bomb Cyclone which has been going on for over a week, and I had my fifth bike ride in the rain since then, and at least another week or more cannot wait?
I saw the American flag on top of Skinner's Butte, Eugene flapping hard with an easterly at noon, Tuesday, 11/19- which is what Zaffino said would be happening prior to this storm getting close
Turbo charged language. Here its Psi. European use the term bar its something like 7 psi per bar ? Numbers may be wrong but its just like km vs mile math
My brother earned his Master's Degree in Meteorology from UCLA in the 1970's. Even back then, he was always referring to charts that were listed in millibars. This is standard for weathermen around the world.
Omg! Why don't you learn about science before you act like you know it. Air does have mass. It's full of gases like nitrogen. You try to sound smart and make fun of the meteorologist. When it's you that doesn't understand that air does have mass. How do you think they're able to weigh out genius? This simple video was made for Young Learners. I invite you to watch it so that you can see with your own eyes that yes air does have mass. If it didn't then why did one balloon tip the scale after one balloon was deflated? I dare you to watch a video on learn a little bit about science when it comes to air that has a mass. Oh Matt! 30psi is most definitely NOT 2millibar. The whole pressure change of the storm currently bearing down on us (63 millibar) amounts to about 1 psi.
helpful explanation thanks Matt
common Matt double U
Matt is the "man". Knows weather inside and out. Appreiciate Matt SO VERY MUCH! Always a great job.
This is nothing compared to my in-laws for Thanksgiving.

@crocholiday 👍
That 12 October 1962 storm seems destined to never fade from our collective memory.

Good weatherman. I learned a bit from his helpful explanation. Weather is so much more complex than most realize.

Columbus Day storm was in 1962, not 1960. October 12th I believe.
I agree you are correct
I think he said 1960s, referring to the decade in general.

I love the way you explained the weather. Very informative awesome job.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Others are calling for gusts up to 70mph in the Eugene area
2 bar is around 28psi.
Bomb cyclone, atmospheric river, I live in Oregon and it's drizzling!! A little over the top folks?😮😮😮😮😊
I was wondering if there weren't more scary words they could have fit into that title.
Yes. This is nothing. The term just freaks people out. Time to find a new term for 'a bit gustier.'
Thankyou for that! Great and simple explanation
Wow, Matt, you've aged gracefully,😊... haven't seen him on the news in over ten yrs, but than I haven't watched regular TV in that amount of time 🤣
November 5th was the bomb election it blew the competition out of the water
Great explanation

32psi is about 2 Bar Not two millibars !!
He is off by 1000!!!!!
Why did he go outside for yogurt.
LOLLL right? That’s funny
thats where the cows are?
@naptastik I mean yogurt isn't an occasion to leave the house for in this way. I need to know what type of yogurt he finds outside.
Matt is a Prince
Your explanation and interpretation is so different from other news channels. I hope you're right and the others are wrong! 🤞

30 psi gauge is about 2000 millibar gauge, come on man

So, it's pretty much just a wet winter storm with a stupid name.
What makes a bomb cyclone, never heard this fraze. Quite hyping a Winter Storm
I'm originally from Ohio, we had bomb cyclones frequently in the winter.
He did explain it quite nicely, Sir. 🤷♀️ Try it one more time.
Lived here all my life, bomb cyclone is a new one. They didn't call it that on Columbus day.
* phrase . 44th in education. Oofah
Its just a term ; that virtually means nothing . Its just a fairly common weather phenomenon that requires two elements to occur.
Pat Doris, say no more. 😅
omg! no, you don’t feel air because it doesn’t have mass 🙄 not “because it’s air” damn! kids watch news reports dude! give correct info

Florida doesn't say that. Bomb
lol "bomb cyclone" It's called a storm and always has been, I guess the media needed a new term to attract viewers.

So, 'we're gonna get some good winds' and it'll be gone soon, so....Nothing to see here.

30 psi is not 2 millibars. It is 204. Not sure I trust this guy.
2.04 not 204!
@@josephpadula2283 Nope. 2040 millibar. (I forgot the zero - typo)

So what does this mean? Will the storm will be stronger or weaker than the meteorologist predicts?
