Turn the ofla from the top. That's why I like it while cutting it doesn't move but when there is no pressure you can turn it just light pressure and turn with your hand on the mat.
Just subscribed to your channel. You make such valid points in this video. I have a Fiskars rotating mat and it does the same thing as what you demonstrated with your Olfa mat. I have "ancient" Rubbermaid turntable a d after seeing you video I think I am going to buy some craft foam and cut it to fit the turntable and then whatever size mat that I might want to use! Thank you ever so much for doing this video!
Welcome!! I’m so glad you found us over here in our corner of the crafty world. That’s a great idea. I was trying to think of a way to even off the turn table but I was drawing a blank. Thanks!
You had me singing right along with you!!! I don’t have a turning mat but at the moment, I’m not sure I would use it often enough to buy one. But I might just look for a tiny mat so it is easier to turn if and when I need to. I guess that is a baby step…lol :). Keep on singing!!!!
I would have kept singing but we’re not allowed. I like fun songs like that. I prefer the tiny mat right now too. I never find myself reaching for the rotating mat but I like the idea of a rotating mat. I think I just need to find the one that works for me.
I found the small Sue Daley turn mat on sale and bought it. It is more like a lazy Susan than the Olfa mat. I like it, but often forget to use it, or I just turn the block anyway.
I have a turning mat and don't use it. My hands aren't strong due to arthritis. I don't feel the moveable mat is stable. I like your idea of using a smaller mat. I only have large ones so that might be something to look into getting. 😊
I have problems with my hands due to nerve issues. I found the rotating mat a little difficult. I’ve been hand spinning my blocks for so long It would take me a bit to get used to a rotating mat.
@@rsislandcrafts, hi there. Mine are Olfa, I think, the green ones with the markings on it. It just happens to be the ones I saw and when I got them they were on sale, I can’t remember the percentage off, but it was pretty significant, somewhere between 25 and 40% off. I was a happy sewer at the time. They are great to take to class where you might not have as much room to set up as you would like or the class provider has set up a cutting area or 2 and there is always a line up.
I haven’t used my lil turn mat much. I rarely remember I have it even tho it’s right next to my machine! Love your choice of music, btw! Now it’s stuck in my head! 🤣
Robin, that’s funny! When I sing, birds fall out of their nests! Yours was much better! And perfect for the subject matter! Love your sense of humor & music knowledge! Perfection!
I have the Sue Daley mat but i don't like that it doesn't have numbers on it. So I put my Fiskars or Olfa rotating mats on top of it ( they don't rotate without dragging). Now i have a great rotating mat.
Thanks Sally. That’s good to know. Yes, you can turn It in for a new one actually. If it’s worn down in places take a picture and email Fiskars. They have a lifetime warranty for their products.
Thanks Linda. I think it’s helpful to hear what everyone has and whether or not they use It often. That way if someone else is looking for a new mat It might help.
Do you own a bias tape maker? ruclips.net/video/7vZUcQMYI2M/видео.html
Yes I do and a couple of rotating mats.
I have one but never used it.
Thanks for giving some budget hacks!
You’re welcome.

Thank you for the tips. I’ll give It try next time. The little tricks can make a world of difference.
Hello! I hope you have a marvelous week ahead. I very much enjoyed this video and was able to sit and hand quilt. Thanks for posting this video!

@@rsislandcrafts oh that’s right..RUclips rules - no music/singing grrrr 😖
I absolutely love my rotating mat and have no problems with it at all.
What mat do you use?

The Sue Daley mat always looks nice in videos. Many times I’ve turned the block on a rotating mat 🤣
I've got a rotating mat, wish I'd remember to use it!🙄
Great singing!
You must not like It very much 😉

Turn - Very informative tutorial Thank you Robin Sincerely Your Friend Lynne
Hi Robin and Nesters, I have one or two and I love it/them. I seem to have misplaced my 17” rotating mat, unfortunately..
Marion what brand do use? It might help someone who is looking to buy a new rotating mat

Good info Robin
Thank you Sonnie

Sorry Lesa. I actually “sang” more but I had to cut It out. I can’t take the chance of getting demonetized for my poor singing 😜

I have no way to Turn anything but I guess it’s something to look for in the future !
I honestly don’t miss using a turning mat. I tend to receive several comments mentioning them when I do certain videos.

That’s interesting. The numbers are an important part.
Excellent idea!! On my way to Dollar Tree!😂
Woohoo! My store didn’t carry the smaller cutting mats for a long time. Now I see them anytime I go. Happy hunting.
Thanks!
Welcome!
Thanks for the great "turning" ideas! The Sue Daley mat is much too expensive for me. I dislike my Olfa spinning mat, too. Nice singing the 1985 hits!
Thanks Patti. It’s nice to hear I’m not only one with issue with the Olfa mat.
I have a Fiskars rotating mat and I love it! It's getting a little worn though. Maybe I can "turn" it in for a new one.🤣
Thanks Sally. That’s good to know. Yes, you can turn It in for a new one actually. If it’s worn down in places take a picture and email Fiskars. They have a lifetime warranty for their products.
I have the Olaf mat. . I dont use it often. It's okay.
Thanks Linda. I think it’s helpful to hear what everyone has and whether or not they use It often. That way if someone else is looking for a new mat It might help.
IKEA has a wooden lazy Susan I think in two different sizes, I paid 9.99 canadian
Thank you for sharing. That’s a good price for a wooden lazy Susan.
Yep, mine was a bit loose and I took a turn for the worse...ouch....my fabric was ruined 🙄
Luckily it wasn't me!!!!! Whew
Yikes. Thank goodness It wasn’t your finger.
