I've been a fan of REO Speedwagon for over four decades. I've also been playing and singing this acoustic for about the same length of time. I started singing and playing it with a rock band I fronted in California before I joined the military, but then I had to play it without a band for my guys. They all loved it acoustic, so when I got out, I just kept doing it live alone. Hearing these guys do it is such a pleasure.
ive Always been a fan of these guys, and for what ever reason, i just came across this version, and all i can say is WOW, What a Great Bluesy Vibe twist on this, Just Awesome !
This was my favorite song for years after I saw REO play it in the Saginaw Civic Center in 1976 or 77. They rocked then. Now they swing. Without a doubt.
I could listen to this version all night long (and I just might!) ---- 100% new life into an already wonderful tune!!!! I am blown away - my mind is seeping out of my ears right now.
This is great a bluesy version I was REO Speedwagon a few year ago at the Ohio State Fair, when they were starting a come back it was awsome concert. They are one of the best 70's band. :-)
Such a class act Unplugged, you can really see just how good Everyone is! Kevin’s voice as all these other Dimensions. He could have taken the career In many directions 🙏
Neil Doughty and Alan Gratzer are from Champaigne IL, Kevin Cronin is from Chicago, and the ledgendary Gary Richrath (the guy who wrote this song) is from East Peoria.
I dedicate this song to my brothers and sisters on the gulf coast. From Amarillo to ya'll stay Texas strong. We will be OK. remember GOD LOVES TEXAS! so do I. prayers be with you. We are all family remember that.
In Mississippi today, tornados dropping all around! Thought this one was very appropriate to post on FB right now. Awesome version of a really rockin' song, Thanx
Oh Man! they get me to singing - listen to this, sung like its the Blues but with those lyrics its got to be jazz - Aw heck lets just Rocket! ha ha love REO unplugged. Thanks for posting this video!
Thanks to Rainmaker2212!! We were very blessed. Hearing this song and all other tunes from late 70's and 80's make me hurt to back in time and live it again.
awesome love the tempo almost in a jazz style. this is another tune I will add to my set list to play. start with this style then go into the rockin style thanks againg
Excellent version!!! never knew this version out; I was have owned the 8-track also, and seen REO 2x in PHoeniX and 2x in Seattle...REO was always mighty fine, thank you for the choice
This is a very jazzy "Riding The Storm Out" Even through all those different chords I essentially hear it as a song in the key of C going from 6mAm to 5G to 4F and 1C. My ear is so much into the domain of Major and Minor chords that I still love the Rock version of this song better. It's much easier for me to follow solid major and minor chords than other voiciings
i saw these guys at the minnesota state fair and they told a story about how there was a tornado like a mile a way and they played this song and the tornado didn't touch them..erie
Am Bm C Bm Am....he is using a 1/2 version of the Bm and a C5 chord played D and B strings on the 5th fret....just roll the Am voicing up a whole step to the 3rd fret..
This is awesome totally different than the version I used to dance my brains out to in the clubs, but love this" bluesy "sound, they've still got it too! Thanks for posting very enjoyable. Are they really from Springfield,IL?
The main thing that songs had in our day was what's called a Mantra. This causes the mind to remember a lyric or title by repeating a melody and a lyric. Today's music is reproduced with non instrumental sounds. Which is depressing
+sploofmonkey Sorry but I have to laugh. IDK how old you are but I can say with confidence that I was listening to REO longer then most of you have been around. Kevin Cronin and Gary Richrath were just a club band when I knew them. Yes I know this isn't the original recording😃
I love this unplugged version. Is there anywhere you can purchase a dvd of this performance? If anyone knows, please contact me with the info. Thanks. Everyone enjoy!
In my opinion, way better than the electro rock version because one gets to the heart message of the song - modern city life is hard get back to nature that is where God can be met tete a tete. Could be totally awesome if the drummer was not put on leash by just playing the bongos and used his kitty.
dude: your 8th grade english teacher called me and said to tell you the word is"THEIR" I'm sorry, I can't help it; my english lit degree forces me to point this out! you're right about the band: in their "Salad Days", they had a show well worth the price of a ticket, unless you sneaked in free as I was known to do on occasion

Few things in life sound better than an acoustic bass in this setting and a man who definitely knows his way around a fretboard! Wow!
I've been a fan of REO Speedwagon for over four decades.

I'm 20 too, and i just can say you elder generations were so lucky to have this kind of music !
ive Always been a fan of these guys, and for what ever reason, i just came across this version, and all i can say is WOW, What a Great Bluesy Vibe twist on this, Just Awesome !

I am a diehard Gary Richrath fan, but this version is AWESOME!
Wow, I'm impressed ! Thanks for sharing.
Wow!
Anyone pick up on the "moondance" progression? This version is awesome.....very "tight."
At first it reminded me of Tom Petty's Breakdown and John Stewart's Gold, but definitely Moondance, as well.
That is Wayyy Cooolll!!!!!!!!!
It's called song arrangement...this is a great version.
ya but how awesome is it to live in todays age where we can watch this unplugged on youtube for free.....during a storm!!
REO "Riding The Storm Out" acoustic

They are orginally from Champaign, IL.

💯
who said it's only our elder. No style is reserved for only one type or age. If you like it and can play, then go ahead do your own songs and all.

Sorry drummer is not using bongos. I forget what that wooden ring with little brass discs is called. A shaker or Sachas?
fyi...reo stands for "ransom e. olds...pre oldsmobile....just thought you should know...and now you cant un-know it
Wow! Which year is it?
Anyone figure out the acoustic chord progression Mr. Cronin uses in this song?
would that be hometown??

how do you get video on your radio?
Not the original singer, but he does a decent job.
@jizzdude tabs? thats pretty easy I can add them right here if you like:
am g/a am d/a
am f g
thats it, the chords over and over. enjoy
Nice arrangement... however, is it me or is Dave Amato starting to look more and more like Marty Feldman?
sounds a bit like sting
or alaniis m.
