Gurung and Magars used to be kagis back then. as per my information Prithivi Narayan shah used to have 3 Gurung wife and also kept a bond with gurung kagi's by becoming meet (मीत) doing so he become adopted son of Gurung peopl and viseversa, this was a brilliant tatcis organized by him so that he could keep thoses community in his favour. he use to regard this 2 non hindu native ethinicity so much that he used to sees them as thakuri as well becuase before Him those place were ruled by those native Gurung and Magar people. Prithivi narayan used to have his own dedicated army filled with Gurung and magar aswell which was called kalibuks and purako gorkha but after the rise of JBR he coudected coup or lets say parva(like vandarkhal parva etc) such purva was conducted 3 times where as lots of kagis from diffrient background were killed including thapa, panday, basnyat that iclude Gurung and magar one also who were loyal to king but no one. After this JBR introduced muluki ain (country law) where he cleverly downgraded Gurung and Magar into matwali category motive behind these step was to supress this community mentality so that they cannot collect supprot and overthrow him and his son's from his power as this created phycological barriar between Gurung magar community and khas chettry. beforthis muluki ain they used to drink, eat, marry to each other community and fight against enemy as equal. this created hierarchy in neplease society. After this Nepal stoped expanding all the progressive divya upadesh given bu Prithivi Naryan Shaw was almost unseen by JBR just to stay in power he changed his surname from kuwar to Rana and changed his bansawali and the history of Gurung and Magar kagis was almost erased from history so that in future they dont get inspired organizing similar coup.
