Having played the original re2 and the remake. Claire is a lot more flirty with Leon in the remake. Because in the original he was just another survivor and claire seemed more interested in finding her brother over finding a boyfriend. But if you watch the cutscenes Claire's interest in Leon comes after he "saves" her in the shop. Leon's interest in Ada starts after she "saves" him in the garage.
TL/DR Leon and Claire are both young adult crushing on their "heroes/ saviors"

I think what I like most about this version of Claire and Leon is that under the threat of constant fear and death, who they are as people immediately comes to the surface and that they are both genuinely caring individuals. Normal, everyday relationship problems literally don’t matter during a zombie outbreak, so there’s no need to be guarded under those circumstances. There’s no time to keep your emotions in check, so if you are genuinely concerned about another person you wouldn’t hide it, you’d wear your heart on your sleeve.
That’s why I prefer Claire to Ada. Ada, under these circumstances, lies and manipulates Leon. Claire is literally putting her life at risk for a little girl she has never even met. Yeah, the choice is clear. I never had a ship in RE, but now I’m Cleon all the way.
You know Ada has risked her life numerous times to save Leon, but you Cleon shippers love ignoring that right? Btw idk how more clear it can be that Leon and Claire are just close friends there’s nothing romantic about their relationship, it’s been proven since 1998.

Leon is so quick to deny when Sherry asks if they're a couple. And his reaction to Claire saying "That would be one helluva first date though." is so priceless I love it. His facial expression of secrecy that their "first date" involved him kissing a different woman.

Bc Ada turns from manipulating to kind hearted in the end and they recycle the whole thing for her throughout the franchise. Her mysterious vibes became the very thing that made her "characterless" imo. Whoever designed her didnt took enough care of her. Okay, I'm starting to believe that Leon is worthy of a cool girl like Claire.
The fact that Leon and Claire actually have lightly flirty moments in the remake suggests they're considering making them cannon, I just wish we could get like a Revelations 3 or something where we saw Leon and Claire teaming up again, and if they made the separate campaign Chris and Jill, that's practically a love letter to the entire fanbase.
Leon and Claire are coming back for the Animated series "Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness" with their voice actors from RE2R returning. Hopefully we get some more Leon/Claire moments.

Yes, they did considered that they even follow up a sequence in 2021 Infinite Darkness with chronologically takes place in 2006 with Leon again meet Claire after the Degeneration even that takes place 7 years after they first met and 8 years in infinite Darkness. However they also made a hard and even stronger ship between Ashley and Leon than actually Claire and Leon. However that is RE4 events which it takes place in 2004 and tbh none of these ships really doesn't matter and the simply reason is because of Resident Damnation and RE6 existence.
Doesn't matter whoever you ship him with, at the end of the day we all know what happens in the upcoming events of the last cannon time Claire and Leon met.
Coming back to this comment after the RE4 remake, it seems that Leon may actually go for Claire over Ada considering the ending of RE4 where he puts distance between himself and Ada. It makes more sense considering Ada's character as well as seeing that she hadn't changed since she betrayed him in Raccoon City 7 years ago.

It seems like in the remakes the creators are trying to make Leon and Claire a canon couple over Leon and Ada. In the ending of the RE4 remake, Leon actually thinks with his first head this time and realizes that Ada is always going to be the mercenary who uses others as a means to an end no matter how she feels about them. This is why he doesn't go with her when she's heading out, and knows that being with her won't be good for him.
Precisely, I noticed that too, the fact that now Leon isn't completely on Ada this time around makes it kinda better for me, even there's a little hint that he may have something with Ashley too, but still I like the chance of him being "mature" to at least show that he can move on.

I've always preferred Claire x Leon and the remake really sells the relationship even more. I know Leon chases after Ada, but you'd have to be blind not to notice the sexual tension between the two in this version. The way her face lights up to see him! I've always respected Claire a lot because she is quite brave and doesn't depend on Leon. If Leon had half a brain (I doubt this sometimes, poor guy) he would go after Claire.

If you want to brag about coming from the old school days you should know that fans new and old have been shipping Leon and Claire together since 1998. And the Remake is clearly selling that. Capcom should have did a better job in establishing the Next Generation them actually having relationships with each other and having kids to carry on the bloodlines. I think it's all their line of work. Being in a relationship as a spy, a special agent, etc, is difficult to maintain. They're too passionate and dedicated to their jobs to really have time to be in a relationship. Per Capcom's scripts lol

Capcom stated (not too long ago which was around 2017 in the beginning ) that RE2 is not just a remake is also serve as a new game of the series in which some stuff got taken off or altered in term of story like Leon's background about his recent breakup. And this time the team decided to make Leon's option more open with Claire especially in this game because as much some fans like the Leon chase Ada in every game they failed to make any evolution that revolves around their relationship. It's been the same scenario of him meeting Ada in strange random cases and she disappears afterwards with any character development between the 2 which bother alot of fans and make us wonder if all this chasing is with no results worth it. That's why in each game or nearly every film the team pushes a new female character onto him to make him think about the stuff he doing which recieves no results what so ever.
When you have to retcon the game you're remaking so that Leon stops cucking Claire but she doesn't get laid anyway.

First this REMAKE IS NOT CANON, you can see in the official RE web site and in the official Time line. The original is still the canon. This Remake contradicts and has inconsistencies with A LOT of canon games and canon information, such as RE0, RE1, RE3, RE4, RE6, Umbrella and Darkside Chronicles. This is not a RETCON GAME because it's not canon, it's a RE-IMAGINATION of the Resident Evil 2. Anyway, even this Remake being non-canon what Leon says at the end refutes your idea. "I can't believe I actually miss her"
But in the canon with Claire A Leon B of the original game and Ada's epilogue File in Resident Evil 3 we saw that she really loves Leon. This might sounds beyond crazy, but i say fuck all other stories that have ever been written in the Resident evil universe, THIS. RE2 remake, this is where a new alternate story unfolds, competely anew.
Honestly, if they remake and slightly retconned the games between RE3 and RE7 to add more OG characters and develop them more... I wouldn't be mad.
Them constantly adding new characters, forgetting older ones and making dumb choices is exactly why the franchise almost ended with RE6. Thank god RE7 saved it with adding horror back into the mix... but the issue with the OGs never being seen again is still there. There's a lot of loose ends and character stories that have never been wrapped up

I always wanted Leon and Claire to be together. I never jived well with Ada, despite me her doing some good and likely being a double agent. Only recently did I learn Kamiya, the man who created Leon and Ada, base Ada on an ex-girlfriend who apparently manipulated him until they broke up. Kamiya used that experience and created a backstory for Leon in which he had suffered from a nasty breakup prior to arriving to Raccoon. So now it all makes sense for me. Leon is trying to start anew, but his streak of getting into bad relationships continue. XD Plus, I can't get over the fact that, despite Ada helping Leon out, she's still a manipulative woman and remains responsible for giving the virus into Wesker's hands, thereby contributing to the creation of Las Plagas and all the shitstorm that followed. :/

In the old days, the graphics weren't good enough for players to learn anything about the interaction of two characters beyond what was written for them in the narrative. If the story said they weren't romantically involved, that was that.
Now, Graphics have evolved to the point where you can read a lot about character interactions based on their facial expressions, and even based on how they speak to one another.
The writers may never have intended for Leon and Claire to have any sort of romantic tension, but you sure wouldn't know it based on how they were written in this game, and also based on how they interact with one another. That is an aspect of the game that wasn't possible when Resident Evil 2 first released.
I'm kind of anxious to see if the writers expand upon this in the future, because as the narrative is concerned, they have been given a pretty clean slate with the success of this rebirth of Resident Evil 2.

I think that the reason Capcom is focusing more on the Claire and Leon thing now is because, back the in late 90s-early 00’s it was fashionable in movies and video games to pair a young inexperienced rookie character with an older experienced one but now because of movies like Hunger Games and Maze Runner and teen/young adult tv shows like Stranger Things etc. it has become more common to put up two young individuals together in the same situation and develop the relationship from there. So I think that’s why their interactions are more emphasised in the remake, because the relationship dynamic of charecters in fictional media has changed. Video game companies have to keep up with the current fashion and trend to sell out the games and satisfy consumers, this is why they have decided to focus on this relationship arc.
Or maybe they realized they made a mistake and want to slowly introduce the idea of Leon and Claire catching feelings over the years. Lol A fan can dream.
Twenty years has passed, I am passing Resident Evil fan since I played the original Resident Evil 2, I was terrible at it, but I was better with Resident Evil 4, never the less, I always keep up with the story of the characters, and in the end, nothing happen, with Leon, Ada and Claire, there is no pay offs, there is no resolution, specially with Leon and Ada, I am tired of fucking that, when I see that, it seems weird at first, but maybe it time to change things, I really tired of vague implications and no payoff.
Keyser94 honestly Capcom or the RE team are good at making action filled combat, scary monsters and well driven gameplay but suck at writing a realistic-as-possible good plot though.
I hope this will change during the time being with a different introduction to the games.

Hmm. The Claire A clip makes it seem a one sided thing with Leon not caring in the slightest. The Leon A clip, however, it's blatantly obvious on both ends.
I felt that Leon and Claire had much more chemistry in this one than the original. Sucks that their interactions were so sparse throughout the game though. Definitely an attraction between them.
Honestly I think the majority of the Resident Evil fanbase ships Leon and Claire. I always found it baffling that they DIDN'T end up together and Leon pined after Ada in RE2 Classic.
In the Remake Leon doesn't seem all that hung up on Ada, never quite trusting her. It was readily apparent that she was only attempting to seduce him as well, and not seriously romantically interested in him. Leon is much less of a dope in this one, and never bought her bullcrap.
Sherry ships Leon and Claire, and everyone else should too. I hope as they continue to remake the older games they change the continuity so that the pair end up together. Chris and Jill as well.
