These long-running New Zealanders have got all kinds of things right: such has have a logo everyone can remember and draw themselves, have a clear musical direction but sound like no one else, play and compose to the highest standards, make memorable tunes and make sure you've got a producer who knows what he's doing. Tick, tick, tick! This sophisticated tune is a fine example of what the band can do. The first thing that struck me was the absolutely exceptional production. With so much going on in this track, there's a lot you need to get right, and the sound in my headphones was stunning - the best trip I ever had without taking anything, up there with Pink Floyd's finest production work. Secondly there's Kent Brooks' basslines - gripping, compelling, head-nodding. And finally on top and out front is an excellent is the melancholy angsty memorable melody. Lots of light-and-shade, lament-and-wrath, despair-and-hopeful determination, screamo-and-clean. This is in short, a superb listening experience, one for nodding along to in the recliner rather than throwing yourself around the kitchen, where you'd miss half of what's going on. Paradoxically that may be its flaw - in these digital times where a band needs to gig to exhaustion or can sell to video game soundtracks, where people want instant gratification, this level of sophistication limits its audience to those prepared to take time to appreciate depth. But if that audience is big enough to keep them playing, which it seems to be, then more please! My Score: Very Good 4*.

Like a Storm are cutting edge top of the line musicianship but with the amount of mucic being produced I can't give them the#1nod. In my opinion.
