Hi Nobby. Interesting variation. Lots of possibilities with these engines. Makes building another version always a good time killer ;) I've never had one fail to run. For port positions I always set them at top and bottom dead centre of the stroke. Cheers Rob
Regarding setting the port postions Many like you set the ports fully open when the crank is at 90 deg to the base. i have always set mine with the con rod and crank at 90 deg , Not sure which is correct but yours runs fine.
I’m not sure either. I followed the way Mr Pete does it, with the cylinder set at the extreme travel in both directions. Seems to work OK, and as MrPete says, they always work. When I made my copy of the Stuart Progress engine I did mark the ports differently, with a tiny scriber in the cylinder. Another method MrPete used. Thanks for looking. Cheers Nobby
@@myfordboyI’m not sure if I’m doing this right. I mark the ports with the crank con rod bearing at 9o’c and 3o’c which moves the cylinder as far as it travels left and right. If the con rod was at 90 degrees to the base, would the ports both fall in the same place?
@@nobbysworkshop The cylinder will pivot a little more if the crank is rotated so the con rod is at 90 deg with the crank. It's a very small amount though.

I was really pleased how it turned out Jim. I try to make my models look nice as well. I guess you’re looking forward to making another engine with your grandson. Take care. ATB Nobby
I like to see the engines that you build because it gives me ideas for future projects that I can be working on.
Thank you I’m glad my videos helped in some way.
Another very nice engine Nobby 👍👍👍Runs a treat. Cheers, Alan.
Thanks Alan much appreciate. I have a little video for next week which I think will interest you! 😮 Cheers Nobby

I do plan to build other versions. There’s so many possibilities Rob. Must finish my current project first. Cheers Nobby

@@nobbysworkshop Extreme travel would be with the set crank like I do not 90 deg to the base.
👍Please keep posting these Nobby. Great for people like me just starting out as it encourages experimentation.

Very nice engine mr Nobby. Nice work.
Thank you Rusty. I appreciate your comment. Cheers Nobby
runs well Nobby thanks for sharing

Thanks Kev. Should I show my other engines or is it getting boring? 🧐 Cheers Nobby

Cool. it runs really well.
I’m very happy with it Michel. Fun project. ATB Nobby
Hey Nobby how well did that turn out mate! The brass screws, bolts and other fitments really accentuate the engine.....terrific! - Cheers Jim
