Allison getting immediately lost in the home base and Gina just going "oh no" without further comment is so funny for everyone who's watched Inquisition.
Lore background: The Veil Jumpers were formed to venture into Arlathan Forest, brave the reality-warping magic that was unleashed after the Breach, and recover the elven artifacts within. They were founded by the Dalish, although they'll accept anyone willing to help into their ranks. Unfortunately, recovering all these artifacts and records resulted in them learning that the Evanuris weren't the benevolent gods the elves had worshipped.
That would... acquire the question on how they operate. They look like well equipped inventors... and they investigate ancient, possible magical artifacts. Everything about that sounds expensive. So... who is founding it? The magesterium? The Sounth Chantry? Antiva? The Inquisition? DA 2 first act was all about Hawke getting a fortune to expend in expedition. These things are very expensive. My money goes to Tevinter Magisters interested in "adding" more magical artifacts to their collections. This kind of info would add to the Veil Jumpers. Perhaps the game will tell us?
Tbf the darkspawn are a constant presence in the deep roads and it's been said that they occassionally come up in smaller nrs outside of the blights, hence why many were sceptical the blight in DAO was a "true blight" untill the archdemon showed itself.
34:25 It's been 8 years in universe since the events of the Trespasser DLC. That's more than enough time for knowledge about the Evanuris to have gotten around, especially if Solas was running his own organization as was talked about in Trespasser.
Don’t be afraid to look around! You missed a lot of small chests/gold. Granted these early quests are pretty linear, so you’re not missing anything super exciting, but later you will miss a lot of equipment and that’s super important for upgrading your equipment. Also, you’ve probably noticed by now, but your companions don’t have health bars so they’re healing/support moves only affect you 😊
Delighted to see you getting stuck in! I know you record these a while before they go up, but a few useful bits for combat, from someone who also played the squishy mage run first: -Dodging has two versions, the short lurch-step that one button-press gets you, and the actual Fade Step with two. Both go where you're aiming the left stick, not the camera, so it can feel jerky until you get used to it. -Veilguard borrows the barrier/armour/hp system from Mass Effect (morso than DAI's verison), where diferent attacks work better against each. Specifically, the ranged beam for barrier, and the heavy attacks on triangle for armour. Focusing on the right matchup helps a TON with enemies like this last sentinel. -Companions do NOT have hp in Veilguard. All healing skills and status buffs that their skills apply are for the player, including Bellara's heal here. The downside of this is that enemies tend to focus a LOT more on Rook. The Warrior companions get a taunt to help with this, but they're two of the last three companions you get. (Side note- the companion acquisition order is one of my few real gripes with the game that I can't pin to sensible causes. The first three are ALL ranged, FFS.) -Elemental matchups and setting off detonations with companions are also real useful, but you don't have the tools to use them yet, really. Worth remembering, though. That was... Far lengthier than I thought it would be, sorry about that. Hope some of it helps! Oh, and as someone mentioned below, the Veil Jumpers know about the Evanuris, partly from their own findings in Arlathan, and partly due to what Harding and Varric told them during the events mentioned by Harding here, which can be found in an issue of The Missing, a comic that showed some of Team Dwarf's chase after Solas. I kind of assumed that Rook not freaking out constantly is just due to being around Varric and the chase for six months? Gotta be some weirdness in that time period. All of which is my VERY long-winded way of saying that I'm glad you're back in Thedas for Veilguard, a game that's real fun when the Internet isn't yelling in your ear about it not being BG3.
I know it's probably already a little late for this, but don't forget to break boxes. It can get you resources and gold, and also clear patches to chests or secret rooms. Also, to lock on you, press in the right control stick. Makes "the dodging" a bit easier.
I'm loving this playthrough 😍!! Here's a tip: there are often "hidden" loot behind boxes/vases/barrels, and all of them are breakable, you can easily break all of them by dodging into them.

The door to the music room was in fact the thing unlocked by the three pairs of statues around the outside of the main Lighthouse room.

Or the Veil Jumpers have their way... Merrill didn't need a lot of resources and got herself a eluvian.
It makes sense to Merrill be involved.

Pressing the right stick will lock onto targets, it might making dodging easier
I remember on my first playthrough just because I wanted to make sure Strife wasn't voiced by David Hayter - he isn't, but it feels like he should be!

Think of Neve as dragon age’s Sherlock Holmes and it explains why she seems so calm all the time
I never knew for the longest time that Bellara was a mage. The bow threw me off. Lol
Remember Dalish, from Bull's chargers.😂
The game gets infinitely better once it gets less linear.
I dont know if it's just me but Bellara reminds me of Lily Du's character from tiny heist TI-83
Let’s get cracking!
