@@azapro911 Otto Rehhagel, the German manager of the Greek national team then, had won 3 German league titles, with Underdog teams, one of them with a team he had promoted the year before from the second division, like Clough with Nottingham Forest. Southgate btw hasn't even coached(!) on the 1st division to add a little perspective. In addition,he won 3 German cups and a uefa cup winners cup, among other things. To find an English manager with 3 league titles,in any of the top 5 leagues, and European trophies, you have to go back 20+ years... To fail qualification in a difficult group with a Greece sauad isn't the biggest failure as you might think.
About riding luck, you probably are too young if you say so. Greece in the road to the final beat,Spain, France, the Czech Republic and Portugal, the hosts, twice in the groups and in the final. All the favorites of thd tournament. Southgate rode his luck by reaching a Wembley home final, which he lost, against teams like Ukraine, with imaginary penalties against Denmark etc, having a miles better squad. Comparing the English managers to the "Continental" ones is simply a joke, and I am a fan of English football btw. Just think of the last English manager who won the Premier league or any major European league, when you find him think if you were alive when it happened...

  • @jaguareagle7026
    @jaguareagle7026 Год назад +391

Let’s see what Southgate has accomplished with England:
World cup 2018: Finished 4, losing to Belgium
Euro 2020: After fairly easy way to getting into finals, they face against an exhausted Italian team at Wembley. England scores a fast goal. Instead of trying to score more, they became passive and Italy took advantage of exhausted players and scored. Mancini made important subs to freshen up the squad unlike Southgate who deliberately made subs at 117th minute instead of 90th or even earlier just for the penalties and subbed players miss the penalties.
World Cup 2022: Losing to a French squad that is on paper weaker than 2018 squad in every way. England’s squad choice and their inability to use the wings because of a lack of creativeness and playmaking capabilities ultimately ended the run.
Foden was useless, Saka only got a penalty and that is it. You can blame the referee however you want, I am not a French fan, the amount of flopping in that game just shows how desperate the players were. There was no visible tactic. Harry Kane shouldn’t get the blame he rarely misses a penalty, and if you are a World cup contender, you shouldn’t be relying on penalties in the first place just like in the euros. This was on manager alone, if Morocco and Croatia can be in the top 4 teams in the world, why a “stacked”, “talented”, “generational”, squad gets eliminated in the quarter-finals? Also a reminder, England is in the Group B of Nations league, on par with teams like Wales, Greece, Albania, Iceland,Montenegro…
And you still keep Southgate and wonder where do we make the mistake.

I’m not an englisman, nor a fan of the english national team on the basis of their management. The crux of the issue facing English international football is simply that their managers never use the talent at their disposal to its full potential. English fans would be quite frustrated and understandably so. It might be an unpopular opinion, but the winners of the last 5 world cups have had managers who were able extract the best out of their squads in the big moments. France, Brazil, Italy, Spain, Germany and now Argentina have had managers who took risks! Southgate has never taken a risk in 3 major tournaments and England have not done anything beyond the expected. I hope for the sake of english football that this changes because the talent pool is world class and the fans deserve something to show for it.

Most pundits have said he’s proved his critics wrong but it won’t be long before he proves them right at club level. Maguire is just not as good as the pundits make him out to be. Granted the pundits and media keep making several players as good and the next best thing or next big thing, but reality will always be different from expectation.

I love that Southgate just gets to decide if he wants to stay on as England manager or not if he was part of any other fa in the world managing an international team in the world she wouldn't have a choice he'd be gone

He knows he has nowhere else to go so he was never going to resign. His favourites all want him to stay for obvious reasons. We won't be seeing the likes of Tomori and Maddison at all now.

What ever happened to Southgate’s mantra of I only pick players in form for their club, a lie. Southgate is comfortable and going to get even more comfortable, who gives up a 6 million a year job.

By allowing this decision the FA are giving one message, that they are blaming the players for another failure rather than blaming the manager

You are the guru of football analysis.
I agree 100 per cent with everything you say about Southgate.
FA do not want to accept that England will never win anything under him.

To be fair Klinnsman was talking about how Germany finished 3rd and they had a million people turn out at the Brandenburg gate. The klinnsman team with Ballack captain was popular, the people recognised the style and improvement. I don't agree with Southgate's team choices or subs tho, as Mark says.

I agree. We did quite well in 2018, since then we've thrown away the 2020 final and could have had a mch better go at France if Grealish and Maddison came on. Our midfield is amazing and half of them dont even get in the team.

For all of you calling for Southgate's head... who do you want to replace him? If, like me you'd like to see an English coach, then who? Eddie Howe probably won't leave Newcastle, Potter might be tempted away from Chelsea, but I doubt it. Who else is there? I liked Hoddle, but I don't know if the FA would ever invite him back. I get the criticism of Southgate and agree with most of it, especially when it comes to substitutions, but we can't really have this discussion without suggestions for a new coach.
