Great video Mr. Pete! Making a tool to help make other things, is he best way to develop our capabilities in our shops, and it reflects how humanity has developed itself out of the stone age! 👍👍👍😎😎😎
Love to see you making accessories for machines, that is the beauty of machine tools they can replicate parts to make themselves and to upgrade the versatility of themselves. Excellent video Tubalcain.
Hi Mr. Pete, Thanks for your UniMat series. I must say you influenced me to go find a UniMat SB 200. I found a very nice machine, super clean and with a bunch of goodies. It came in the original box, manuals, HS steel cutting tools and some milling tools. It wasn’t cheap, but as I’m still a working stiff, I had the $’s. I’ve since picked a NOS milling table and a very nice chip tray. I’m still laboring to set up a proper shop, so this will be a fun toy once my shop is not a disorganized mess. The machine has some great accessories like the grinding hood. I have enjoyed your videos for many years. Thanks for all your efforts and the great knowledge you provide. Like being in the best shop class. Best Regards, John
I went to a meet and greet in Benicia, CA today. There was a Unimat Sl 1000 with about every accessory you can imagine for $600. It was tempting! The "Tailstock Die Holder" looks like a very useful threader for external threads 10/32/10/24 or smaller. I think I'll try and find a set of the 5/8" dies. In some cases smaller is better. KOKO!
All my small dies are 13/16" including one or two that were made in the US of A. Good that you pointed this out Dave. I didn't know 5/8" dies existed. Cheers Nobby
@@mrpete222 It was the best job of my partsmaker years.Loaned out to the development shop dealing with engineers who got me whatever I wanted. My boss's recommendation to the engineer was "This is the lowest pay grade who can handle the job."As an aside I was born in 1943 in the country. We used to play ice hockey against townies like you.Once, a townie and I went over the dam breast fighting for the puck.
Any reason to worry about the dies being centered with the tail stock and the chuck? Just seems to be a risk of being a little sloppy when putting it together.
perfect, thanks! so could you also drill a 7mm hole in the backside and glue / press in a 7mm arbor rather than turn down the arbor... just thinking about minimizing chips... =D Happy Saturday, Thanks again.
What happened to part 2 of the Vevor drill/end mill sharpener? I ordered a Vevor MR-13B and was looking forward to seeing it sharpen end mills. Is that video coming soon?? Have a great weekend my friend.
I just made the video yesterday. But it will not be published for a while. I hate to disappoint you, but you cannot sharpen in. I think that was misinformation.
Step 9 of the Unimat Challenge! Another neat project, though yes, it was cheating you used your full size machines, lol. Though can you imagine if you had to set up the Unimat for drilling those holes?
"Are we having fun? IS EVERYBODY HAPPY”. Gets me every time! Thank you Mr.Pete!

I've never seen any of the acorn dies before.
Thanks for another interesting video MrPete.
Have a great day.
Good stuff Lyle, brings back memories of when they still taught machine shop at high school some five decades ago. Great video thumbs up.
Nice addition to the tool set for the Unimat. Well done looks great.
Yes, very slick. You have given me some ideas. Now to go from ideas to a finished product. Thanks.
Nice, old fashioned video!
Clear as mudd. The design should be easy to adopt for any tailstock, any lathe.

Excellent video! Clear, concise and good editing. Thanks, Teach
thank you very much

For many many years, I’ve enjoyed watching your videos.
That's the plan!
Nice to see you back at tool making. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum last week 😎
👍👍👍
Those of us who only have a Unimat will have to make it a much different way... the hard way!!!!! Thanks for the video!
😂
Lyle says the dies are 5/8 " OD. Please check your ones if you are NOT in the USA. In England they are 13/16" OD.

Interesting little piece, thanks Mr P.
it was the tool I was searching thanks
The die holder is one of the first things I made for my TAIG lathe, a very handy tool
👍👍👍
many years ago i made them in Metric from M3 to M16 nice tools
Morning Lyle
Great idea. I need to make one for my lathe as well.
great project, I am going to make one for my Unimat thanks.
In the 70's at RCA I made 1/4 100 tpi screws to adjust laser mirrors using a die stock in a Hardinge lathe.
Wow, that is one fine thread

Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Mr Pete !! John

If you don’t mind me answering. Yes you can do that and it would save some chips. Red Loctite would probably be adequate to drive the tool.

That just breaks my heart. I was hoping that it would do both functions.
Thank you for responding back.
I look forward to the follow up video.
thank you Mr Pete
I liek the idea! Might make one for my SL too.
sir you do some amazing work
Many thanks
That's pretty slick.
Nice job
Reminded me that I need to make a die holder for my SL...
now that is useful and what's more within my limited capabilities !.
Mr. Pete I'm happy
😁😄

i think you vintage tool would like this channel he does talk about vintage tools Were you born before the dinosaur and the flintstones ;
Thanks again
I made one for my mini lathe
👌🏼
Cute
How timely you should post this. I just bought some 5/8 dies for which I need a holder. I am shamelessly copying your design!
Nothing shameful about it, that’s why I make these videos. The 5/8 dies are kind of rare.
