I've ordered mine at a smaller retailer in the afternoon and got it on release day (Nov 19 in Europe). This small retailer had stock till around 7pm... Of course they are sold out day 1,but small vendors had them in stock for hours while amazon and other big retailers sold out in seconds.

I was blessed to have a friend who lived on base and hung out with him during the PS5 craze. When we walked into the mall and saw a store with 4 still on the shelf he looked just as surprised as I did. Needless to say we walked out of that mall each with a PS5. I think Xbox was prepared for this and waited for the scalpers to basically buy out the first batch and then immediately deployed another large batch. Those likely got scalped too.
Despite the fact it's not a necessity item, any item getting scalped should be looked into and the scalpers punished.
