Former film industry employee talking here, let me tell everyone here, get ready to work long hours. Get ready to wake up before the crack of dawn, getting ready to work six days a week, and repeat.
Work as much as you can going from one job to the other. Remember that film and TV shoots are project-based so they will end and make a long list of contacts if you can. And above all be professional and courteous and discreet. Do NOT gossip or fake your way into a job. Others above you will notice. Find your niche, find out what department or what you wanted to stick with it, get really good at it. Commercial spot jobs can pay more but they are short lived productions. If you keep working, you won the lottery.

I just read the description of your video and just wanted to say thank you, I really needed to read this today. I have been in the Medical field for 25+ years, I am a Medical Director, Ultrasound technician. I've managed 6 medical facilities and staff in addition to raising two girls and a husband LOL. Basically I let life drag me with my eyes closed LOL. I don't regret it but it's time! Although Healthcare is a passion and where I feel comfortable and smart, but TV/Film lights up my spirit. I've always wanted to be a part of that world but I didn't know what exactly. I'm obsessed with TV/Film. I love home decor and interior design. How obsessed? Well when I watch a movie I dont just watch it, I do research on the cast, the production crew, locations where it's filmed, the set decorator and production designer as if it's my job LOL I just love it! but what always catches my eye is the background, the movie sets and the continuity of the dressing and props. I'm fascinated by it. Although this idea hit 30 years later, I'm grateful it hit me. I want to be a set decorator. My boss of 17.5 years is retiring soon and I'm putting all my energy into becoming a set decorator. I can not go back to school full time so I've taken courses online anything I can find and learn from. Oddly enough there aren't that many videos on it. I do follow SET DECOR and SET DECORATORS SOCIETY OF AMERICA ON RUclips. It's not even about the money. I'm 45 and I just want to be happy and in love with my life and truly contribute to something I am passionate about. So thank you for your platform and your message. I have the drive to be one of the best!

Thank you for this. I’m incredibly nervous only my 4th day on a major set doing makeup and I feel like I’m gonna screw up and everyone is gonna find out I’m a fraud. Imposter syndrome x200.

As an aspiring actress in Chicago, where and how do I start? I’ve done some classes and have headshots and what not but this one agency that pulled me haven’t gotten me any bookings and they charged me for it all under false promises I’ll be a background, a main/lead role, etc. so moving forward what should I do?

Acting has nothing to do with normal union jobs. Acting is a different union, but in order to get into that union you need to book a union acting job or you can do extra work and possibly one day get an upgrade, which means you are asked to deliver a line, which means you get a union credit. But with acting, looks are number one, no matter how good you are.

Be aware of agents that charge money upfront. That's not how professional representation works. Real agents make deals where they only get paid when you get paid.
It's all connections. You must meet the people that will hire you and refer as an actor. Become friends with them. Unfortunately, it is hard to make a connection during a short audition. That is way we teach our people to get on set as a PA and literally work with the people who will hire you as an actor. If you want to learn how to do this then check out our program here www.friendsinfilm.com/get-in/

@@officialfriendsinfilm wrong. You don't get work as an actor by doing PA work.

Would you have information on how to get on Commercial sets as a Unit Stills/BTS photographer?
Do they even bring in a still photographer on those productions?

Hello, my name is Greg, I work for Janet.
I would email that question to her here: info@friendsinfilm.com
I think it depends on the commercial. The ones Janet works on have NDAs a lot of the time and I don't know how that affects still photography.

The fastest way to get on set is through the A-List model.
The A-list model shows you how to get on your first 20 shoots, build a base of connections of people that call you for film work, create a body of work while you are working on those professional sets so that people know you for your brand.
