  • The Crib Goch route up Snowdon is extremely dangerous and shouldn't be attempted by novice climbers according to Llanberis Mountain Rescue. I did not realise this when I set out, join me on this terrifying scramble to the summit.

One of the first dates with my wife of 56 years was the Snowdon Horseshoe , starting with Crib Goch in 1963. . Although I had climbed a lot including Austrian / Italian Alps, it was a first for her. In 2017 on a visit from Canada we were up Snowdon again -- by train . However our Children and Grandchildren did it the proper way. Video was nostalgic for me. Thank you.Mike

I first climbed Snowdon during a school trip aged 13, that was 54 years ago. From the top we could see Ireland! On the way down we stopped to rest, eat and skim stones into Glaslyn. I swear the guy in the red jacket at 7.50 was standing at the same spot where I, trying hard to throw the best skimmer, overbalanced and fell into the lake. It was bloody cold and provided the rest of our party with a good laugh.

I did Watkins Way on a school trip in around '78 when I was 14 - not easy. Many a tale to tell on that trip. Then returned in 1980 and did the Pyg track with my Mum, Dad and Sister. The amount of people we passed in flip flops was unbelievable. Both times I remember the worstest but bestest cup of tea in the world ever - boiling point gets lower as you ascend I think. Best wishes to anyone who attempts Crib Goch - be safe and be happy xxxxxx

    Well done climbing it
I did it in 2007 , never climbed before and I think went the most difficult route possible.
I was on vertical wall climbing up most of the time . Had running shoes and beer in rucksack.
I was glad a survived and I won't be doing that again lol

Wow, well done for making this, very brave! I'm fine with heights, but definitely not risk of death from falling on such an exposed and uneven ledge. Even if my balance was ok which is a big if, I'd worry about a sudden gust of wind...I was offered the chance to do this, but I'm very glad I took the easy route up in the end.

Sorry but that freeze frame and zipping noise at 0:24 was sheer artistry, certainly brilliant movie making material. It was the freeze frame just as the say Crib Goch, the sheep stops and looks at you, BRILLIANT.

Enjoyable video, particularly the humorous interjections. I admire your sense of balance while videoing and negotiating the ridge one handed. It took me back to the time I did the ridge with my now grown up son in the days before GoPros. Thanks.

Well done Anna. Having rescued numerous people over the years off Crib Goch from the (relative) safety of a helicopter, it was great to see what it's like on the ridge itself. And having seen your footage, I'm glad I haven't tried it myself - nothing more embarrassing than having to be rescued by your own mates!!

Did this a few days ago, I was absolutely on top of the world. I loved every second, I cannot wait to do it again! I did it with a guide but am ready to do it solo, I'm usually a massive risk taker so my family were like ain't no way we are letting you do that on your own. Understandable since it was the first time I have ever done a scramble. So good.

However, your video has been an inspiration to me and I am determined to do it later this year, probably around about May 2018. . . . Crib Goch is probably not the best choice for a first go at the over 3000s in Wales . . . Y Garn and the Glyders would be a good first go . . . or Snowdon via one of the other routes . . .
. . . people don't realise the sheer energy drain that an ascent like that puts on you . . .

Just came across your video..... great footage. I did it in May'12 with my walking mates (average age of the group back then would have been around 66yrs). I was too busy crawling along the ridge to think of filming the experience so it was great to view your footage. It was the scariest thing I've done as I'm not comfortable with heights but a fantastic feeling of achievement after I had completed it. I wouldn't do it again BUT this May the same group, older, though not wiser, spent a week in The Lake District. I completed Jake's Rake, and parts of that I thought were worse than Crib Goch. Again, some very exposed sections on the way up. If you get up to The Lakes check it out.

Its not that dangerous if a little bit of forward planning and research in undertaken.
Crib Goch is not technically challenging, it may be a Grade 1 scramble, but its not a difficult mountain, thousands of walkers cross its ridge every year, and compared to say Snowdon which is across the valley straight ahead, it claims fewer casualties.
It is certainly very exposed, and some of its ridge is above 3000ft in height, so it commands respect, but its within the capabilities of just about anyone with a head for heights.
Its those walkers who have not familiarised themselves with the challenge and exposure of such a tall mountain.
A lot of walkers attempt Crib Goch, not knowing what to expect, and its those people who get into difficulties.

    • @iantaylor5497
      @iantaylor5497 4 года назад

It's exposed. But there's plenty of space along it to relax and sit down etc. It's only dangerous because the sides are scary if you look down. But there's shit loads of space along the ridge. Always looks bad on camera

Ha ha, that lake. I did crib Goch in the 90s with my brother and some of the lads from work. When we were up on the ridge or somewhere up the mountain, we were trying to gauge how far away the lake was, and trying to land stones in it. You lose sense of size and distance because of the sheer scale of everything. It's funny, I found helvellyn scarier than cribgoch though, Had a bit of a moment up there, I wasn't liking it too much

Me and my dad summited snowdon on may 18th 2019 but weather was not on our side as clouds quickly rolled in so we could only see about 5 metres in front of us

Good luck. We will do it at some point, but probably not with the baby. My friend had a very nasty fall on it last year. To be honest she was lucky to survive. These mountains are not to be underestimated.

Amazingly I was in a very similar situation to yourself. Never been up there. Didn't have a clue what crib goch was, I suppose a blessing was that I didn't know what crib goch was.
Your video sums up my sentiments exactly. And if I wasn't clinging to the rock face fearing for my life I may well have taken some video. When we went up it was cloudy as hell, down to about 10 metres visibility. Which in hind sight is a good thing, if I had seen the drastic fall to my death I may well have not made it.
Glad I did it? Errrrrrr yes. Would I do it again? No no no no nooooooooooo.

Done Snowdon about 5/6 times now and Grim Goch too! Gotta say you've got a lotta ba**s to do it too! Oh, nice arse 😂. Actually been down it 3 times on my mountain bike.....obviously not that route, though. Well done! 👏🏻

Wow! Anna, are you using a Go Pro camera? Views are stunning, and you are very brave to shoot while climbing...I love mountains and will write down this place's name to visit it some of these months (hopefully).
By the way, congrats for the great and constant hard work you do on RUclips! I train daily my voice with your tips and warming up videos...you are such a great singer and, as I see, an amazing person too! Greetings from Spain (but I'm Bulgarian :D )

When I was in the army leading a group of soldiers along crib goch we came across a man and woman in their late 60s. He was a vicar wearing a dog collar I think she was his wife...wearing stiletto heels and stockings!
