- This rarely seen Heavyweight mismatch from Caesars Palace, Las Vegas 6th November 1993 on the undercard of Holyfield vs Bowe 2. Notable for the courage displayed by Snipes and some terrible refereeing by Toby Gibson. Thankfully this was Snipes last fight as he showed bravery above and beyond the call of duty in a 10th round TKO loss. .Gonzalez would eventually go on to fight arch rival Riddick Bowe where he would be pummeled in 6 rounds by Big Daddy and never contend again.
Hmm...I haven't seen this since the night it aired. I already disliked Gonzalez, and this just made it turn into a complete hatred. Snipes? Honestly, I was suprised he was still fighting at the time. It was sad to see him go out like this. Looking at this some 20 years later, though, the early 80s Snipes could've EASILy beaten Gonzalez. Ultimately, Jorge got that ass whuppin's he so richly deserved against Bowe and Witherspoon.
Classless taunting of contender near champ but he got paid back for it in full with extra ! Yeah!
Nothing better than when big daddy Bowe knocked the snot out of Jorge.
I remember when Bowe beat down this manperm back in the day.
This was a disgraceful fight. Snipes was shot to pieces and Gonzalez beat the guy without mercy.
Renaldo Snipes was game for that fight. He was outmatched, and past his prime.
SNIPES GOT THE GUTS AND HEART OF A LION

I remember watching this, didn't like Gonzalez...was pleased to discover the Witherspoon fight where Witherspoon KO'd him with those overhand rights that Witherspoon is known for.
Gonzales was like a video game villain, or a pro wrestling heel. It was fun while it lasted, but he didn't have the attitude or dedication to become the elite level of professional fighter that he was as an amateur. He was truly arrogant, & believed as an all-time great Cuban amatuer, that he had nothing to learn from American trainers, he thought he knew better than them. He was wrong. Riddick Bowe & Tim Witherspoon exposed him, and even after he finally humbled himself and started listening and working hard to get in top shape (even stringing together six straight wins on the comeback trail), he was never able to mentally bounce back from those losses, & I remember his win streak ending at the hands of "Twin Tyson" Cliff Couser on Fox Sports, ironically while he was in discussions to fight the real-life Mike Tyson. I guess Couser was supposed to help him prepare to fight Tyson since they had similar styles- but he got whacked out in 3 rounds by the look-a-like. The real Tyson likely would have sent his head into the third row in 60 seconds, but at least Gonzales could have gotten one last big payday. One of the most steep amateur-to-professional falls from grace of all time.
Good post. I wonder what he's doing now?
Glad to see this fight been a long time.
Snipes would have crushed Gonzalez in his prime. He was 37 years old here and at least 10 years past his best. Sad!
Welcome to the ministry of silly haircuts!
Ref sucks he should have stopped the fight hope he was fired he should never ref again.
So even the undercard had it's own peculiarities. This was the event that had the Fan Man incident.
Snipes was shot at this point plus he lost 2 years with a hand injury
At 16:20 the referee says "mix it up". I agree with another commentator, Al Bernstein, about that. Its not the referees place to dictate what strategy the fighters use.
Have not seen this fight in 20 years Snipes always had a hard time admitting a loss use to hang out with him alot .Snipes never got over the Holmes fight alot of pro fighters can not admit a loss one thing you learn when you know a few.
González got his ass whooped a lot of times.
At times You can clearly hear HBO'S Jim Lampley's commentary from ringside lol
Snipes is a warrior 🪖.
Gonzalez was another heavyweight hype job like Michael Grant.
Once those guys got in the ring with top guys, they got their asses whipped!
To be fair Grant actually beat Gonzalez and Golota losing to a guy like Lewis isn't bad either. But i understand your point.
I remember watching this one when it came on in England.
Me and my younger brother, GOD rest him were watching. Richie wasnt really into boxing but even he could see Snipes was really trying his heart out! But Gonzalez just PUNISHING him here, callously imo. The ref was AWFUL!!
Love Reg Gutteridge & Jim Watt on commentary RiP..
He was 100% a shot fighter, that was obvious. So why the hell would he be trowing the fight?? Looked like he was trying his best to win to me. If he was gonna throw it, there's no way he would have taken all that punishment to get stopped in the last round.
Thank you.
Best haircut I've ever seen
Jorge big as hell
Snipes had to get on the inside and try
to cancel out Gonzalez reach It looked
like he was intimated by Gonzales size.
He telegraphed that overhand right as if he was Thomas Edison. If he had slightly better timing and patience he could beat the shit out of Gonzales with just that, same thing that Bowe and Witherspoon did. But he looks so out balance, missing that overhand rights by mile, and awkardly throwing jab at Gonzales here and there. Hard to watch.
It looked like Snipes didn't come to fight, Gonzalez just
like a bully taunted Snipes,
ESE HERMANO ES BALIENTE PELIANDO CON CUBA🇵🇷🤲🇨🇺
What Jorge doing these days ?
Satanic goatie""" LOL
Gonzalez used his size and jab well as snipes took a bad beating
Horrible fight. Terrible ref. At 21:46 he sternly warns Gonzalez for holding behind the neck. then Gonzalez immediately goes back to holding Snipes by the neck, over and over, so many times I lost count. Fight easily could have been stopped two rounds earlier.
Snipes always told me he threw this fight so the Bowe fight could be made.
No fighter would absorb that punishment over 10 rounds to throw the fight.
@@richardharrison859 Exactly
No he was past his prime and Gonzales got paid back for being too arrogant
