    Chinese lion in Ryukyu琉球.
More than 2,000 years. The Chinese emperor dispatched a number of large fleets. A large number of Chinese officials and elites arrived in ancient Japan 倭. Korea朝鮮. North Vietnam交趾 and Ryukyu琉球. To develop these very backward areas and establish a Chinese regime.
(ancient Japan 倭. Korea朝鮮. North Vietnam交趾) The King of Ryukyu琉球 and the aristocracy is Chinese immigrants and descendants. Their language is Chinese dialect 漢方言 and Chinese characters 漢字. Their clothes are Chinese clothes - hanfu . They have always been proud of Chinese people 漢人. They live in the local Chinese palace 中國宮殿. Implement Chinese political system. (There are many indigenous people in other parts of the local area)
If If If If...they are not Chinese and Chinese descendants. They will not be accepted by the Chinese emperor. They will not be given Chinese official positions. They cannot be local Chinese officials 中國官員 and local kings (areas occupied and controlled by China). They cannot communicate with the Chinese at all. They cannot use Chinese characters 漢字 and wearing Chinese clothing 漢服. They cannot live in the local Chinese palace 中國宮殿. They cannot get any Chinese goods and technology.
Only the civilians and slaves in Ryukyu琉球 are local indigenous people. They are not Chinese.

1429 ~ 1879. The name of the ancient Okinawa was "Ryukyu琉球" (the name set by the Chinese emperor. It is also the name of the historical record). It is one of the territories of the Chinese regime.

Ryukyu Civilians are local indigenous people. They may be Southeast Asian races.
1609. The Chinese palace of "Ryukyu琉球" was occupied by the "indigenous people". China lost local actual sovereignty. After officially merged Japan日本 in 1879, "Ryukyu琉球" was renamed Okinawa沖繩.

Regarding lion dances in mainland of Japan: it is said to be introduced from China as part of "Gigaku" performance around 8th century. One of oldest lion's masks that exist in Japan has an inscription of year 752.
Regarding lion dances in Okinawa: it is thought to be introduced from China, but not sure. One of oldest lion dances in Okinawa is of Shuri Tera-cho town, which is said to begin around 1422-1439. See this Japanese article if you're interested: www.dee-okinawa.com/topics/2011/09/terashishimai.html
